FridgeFreezer
Says in that report they own Corus and Tetley, surely they are the ideal company to buy LR?
MRWOO
Just wait until they take the engine out of this http://www.tatacarsworldwide.com/products/sumo.asp and put it into the Defender. I'll be even more glad I got the Transit Van version whilst the chance was there...
Exmoor Beast
Sounds like a slippery slope for Land Rover that even 'terrain response' won't cope with. Will
BogMonster
I heard the next generation Defender will have a little man with pedals under the bonnet and the throttle pedal will be connected to a sharp spike resting on his posterior. Mind you it/him/her will go wrong less often than a TdV6
jules
Cool dose that mean there will be more rag top models

ROGUE TROOPER
Maybe TATA will see the light and go back to a base model to sell in the 3rd world (like without ABS etc)
jules
That would be one of the best things they could do Re-release the early 300tdi Defender (all mechanical) or the 200tdi
white90
trouble is the Euro emissions the TDI/Td5 aren't up to it. shame I'd love to see a new TDi/V8 version of the Defender
sgnas
Tata are one of the few potential owners who would keep a "utility" model going. However, as Tony's post implies, it would never be allowed into Europe I feel pretty soon it will be prohibited (or made prohibitively expensive, via tax/congestion charge etc) to drive an old Land Rover in the UK. sgnas
Exactly, I think TATA can successfully make a "utility" Land Rover. we'll just never get it. Having said that IVECO/Santana seem to be able to do it!
nicksmelly
And remember the current Defender can not be produced after 2010 as it can not accommodate Air bags. So they can't make too much of a mess of it in 2 years, can they?

CR88
I believe in this scenario. R&D - Gaydon Production Luxury vehicles - UK Utility vehicles - Asia But TATA, still have one problem in hands. The NEW DEFENDER for the European and American Market. The Rest of The World the actual defender is OK, but the new laws and standard limit a lot the actual defender. And the utility market is important and nowadays all brands are only interested in fancy SUV....

GBMUD
Oh dear god NOOOOOOOO, couldn't have been a worse buyer! They have not bought it yet. ...and yes, there could be lots of worse buyers. IMHO TATA would be good for Landrover. TATA did not get as big as they are by making carp decisions. They gave their customers what they wanted and the customers gave then their money. I see no reason why this would change. Chris
BogMonster
trouble is the Euro emissionsthe TDI/Td5 aren't up to it. shame I'd love to see a new TDi/V8 version of the Defender time the Euro emissions laws were shoved up the European tailpipe then stand behind a Discovery 3 and stand behind a Tdi Defender and you will feel just as ill just as quickly, it just smells different I still think JCB would have been a good owner
nas90
Maybe TATA saw this: http://www.eurekamagazine.co.uk/article/12...ity.aspx?u=8266 Click on: Car makers benefit from virtual reality - cannot seem to get the url to point in the right place! And thought that £2.05bn was a good price to pay!
