The New Owner of Land Rover

Tata are one of the few potential owners who would keep a "utility" model going.

However, as Tony's post implies, it would never be allowed into Europe :(

I feel pretty soon it will be prohibited (or made prohibitively expensive, via tax/congestion charge etc) to drive an old Land Rover in the UK.

Remember Europe is not the only market

Toyota still make 4x4's that can't be sold in the UK due to emissions

I believe in this scenario.

R&D - Gaydon

Production

  • Luxury vehicles - UK
  • Utility vehicles - Asia

But TATA, still have one problem in hands. The NEW DEFENDER for the European and American Market. The Rest of The World the actual defender is OK, but the new laws and standard limit a lot the actual defender.

And the utility market is important and nowadays all brands are only interested in fancy SUV....

Oh dear god NOOOOOOOO, couldn't have been a worse buyer!

They have not bought it yet. ...and yes, there could be lots of worse buyers. IMHO TATA would be good for Landrover. TATA did not get as big as they are by making carp decisions. They gave their customers what they wanted and the customers gave then their money. I see no reason why this would change.

trouble is the Euro emissions

the TDI/Td5 aren't up to it.

shame I'd love to see a new TDi/V8 version of the Defender

time the Euro emissions laws were shoved up the European tailpipe then :)

stand behind a Discovery 3 and stand behind a Tdi Defender and you will feel just as ill just as quickly, it just smells different

I still think JCB would have been a good owner
