4x4Adventures Winch Challenge Event 23 Feb 08

Thanks to everyone, James, Anton, all the marshals and everyone else that made it possible. We had a fantastic day, The punch's were brilliant, Quite tight in places but we've come to expect that from the Twisted Mr T! The event ran smoothly which is a credit to those organizing with such a large entry.

Our day went well, Started a bit too cautious as we didn't want to break anything but looking back probably waisted a bit of time, Tho we got into the swing as the day went on. Shame we spent a couple of minutes looking for the sixth punch on the special before we realized there was only 5 and the last bearing took us to the finish  but Mark did brilliantly finding all the right punch's. The truck seems to have come out surprisingly well, The power steering pump went sick about lunch time which made working through the trees a nightmare but the only damage was a broken side light lens from catching a tree while pulling off the main track to let another vehicle past, Doh!!!

What a great day :)

Some really good hard punches and very tough winching (Loved it)with the shortest bits of strimmer cord seen outside of B&Q B)

We really enjoyed it with car working really well until head gasket decided it did not want to play any more, then crawled home to uncle Bucks at 20mph.

I hope these events continue to get the support they deserve as they really are very good.

Do not go if you don't like hanging from a bit of string above some very large drops.

But DO go if you want to be tested and pushed by some great terrain and some very good crews.

Simply awesome :)

Jim :)

Ps: We'll be back

Jim,

It was really nice to have you on board for the day as its a long way from Kent .............

The site is typical of Devon .................... clay or shale substrate with deep gulley's and steep hill sides........and punches set out to test both driver, codrvier, and vehicle ability .............James is really good at setting out................... big drops are something that we are used to...............

I shoot on 4 farms ............. they all have terrain like you saw on Sat ................

I felt that the site was a little more awkward due to the conditions ............. we have had weeks of rain and the site was just beginning to dry so the clay was very sticky ........... if it had been wetter or dryer then most folk would have found to be a totally different ball game. Simex were the ideal tyre choice and seem to work perfectly .........

Dont worry about spaying me with mud, I never really noticed.............its all part of the fun ...............

I hope you guys had uneventful journeys home and look forward to seeing you again..............

:)

Ian

Jim Welcome to James World  He is a cruel but fair bugger .

The short cords are punishment for those who have torn them off on previous events , Unfortunatly the rest of us suffer :(

Good to see yall again .

just out of interest james, what was the most punches 1 team did?

and did anyone do the punch in the main woods,

you go down the hill, over the bridge, sharp left, and all the way down to the end, drop left in towards the stream and then it was up the valley on the right and the boundary fence?

also big thanks to treebloke (bob smith) well and trully got us of the stick stuff when we had the tralier problem on friday afternoon by lending us his spare one! Thanks

Cracking event , cant wait for the rest of the series!

Ian , I think I know the punc h you are on about , we got there after dinner and the approach was completely chewed , We took off and approached it from the top track just left of the start gate , dropped down a bank through the stream , but as normal there was about 6" of cord on it , and tied down nice and low :P

Ian, yep all the punches were achieved, the most by D4x4 and OEC teams with 31 or 30 each (IIRC) anyway they are on the results sheet you had emailed through so you can scroll through and see who got what.

I see that Simon and Jason both had 31 punch's, We had 30 and Jim had 29 so it was pretty close. The thing I do notice tho is that the punch values are all very low. You usually have a couple of 100/200 point punch's at the end of the day but this time, possibly due to the larger entry, the highest value was 67 with most the punch's down in the 20's,30,s and 40,s. Makes the Harder ones less worth while but does keep the competition closer which can only be a good thing!

I remember that punch.........

I said to Adrain "Do you here anything? sounds like the fron wings being ripped of?"

Answer "No Keep Winching"

Get punch, reverse out of punch, Adrain: "Ahhh, perhaps you did hear something!"

Looks like i'll be fitting new panesl to that wing frame then :rolleyes:

But that was a particluarly short cord on that one ;)

Nice to see it so close at the top, just goes to show, one slip, one bit of bad luck, one punch lost and you have got to work very hard to get back into it.

Great fun :)

A very entertaining day, even with all the problems that a cured (punchers, mini melt down with fire, being late more than once etc) but it was worth it through and through. Anyway at least I found all problems in one go and I'll ready for round 2 (hopefully). The rear Superwinch is being replaced with a very tidy Husky but then again I might sell them both and put something else on instead, decisions decisions

Well done James and to all the guys at OEC, X-Eng and the hard working marshals

So frustrating to see all those lovely placed punches and not having the means to get to them

We have a 30 second film of a largish co driver running around and then jumping off a high platform onto his driver’s bonnet. Mmmmmmm great cheers by all, not to sure about Ciderman’s face. :o
