headhunter
I am not around for a couple of days but will make calls over the weekend regarding cottage/bunk house availability and suitability. By then we should have an idea of initial numbers. Also it allows time for other suggestions to surface without jumping the gun on mine. There may be better options. pugwash
put me down for one of the cottages- either weekend suits at the moment.
GBMUD
My main question about the holiday cottages is about the evening socialising... Is there a pub nearby or anywhere large enough to hold the whole group at one of the farms - I am guessing not? What if all the rooms are filled but someone does not fancy the dormitory option? I am not putting a downer on the farm option, just wondering 'what if?'. I quite like the Premier inn idea. The en-suite pub/restaurant has significant merrit, as does the idea of discount rooms. Premier is one of the better ones of it's type IMHO. Chris
Mo Murphy
Perhaps Martin could do a little investigating on our behalf and find out some prices ? Mo
V8 Freak
Stole the words Mo.... If the Premiere Inn is an option, I'd sooner do that because you are more likely to be nearer civilisation / pub, everyone gets same standard of accommodation etc. If Martin can advise if there is something nearby and discount is available, we can make a block booking. ThreeSheds
The Ramblers currently has 17 beds (9 rooms) for 22nd Nov, the Nag's Head has a couple of sort of flat like things around the back and there are several B&Bs in the village - I don't think space is a problem in Edale... Wherever we go though, I will be camping...
Godlykepower
How much of a discount could you wrangle out of them, Martin?? Hmm, depends really. I get at least 50% discount for personal use, sometimes I get them free if i'm in the right location. There are probably limitations to me getting a discount (i.e number of rooms/time of week etc.) but I can find out exactly what they are. If we told a little white lie, and said that this expedition had charity links or was for some or other good cause, I could almost certainly wrangle a better discount. Worst case scenario is that we make a block booking & I get everyone at least 25% off. However, my company privileges will also extend to Whitbread branded pubs & restaurants (Brewers Fayre & Beefeater) which will normally be on-site of a Premier Inn; and if we all ended up going for drinks or dinner, if I paid for the bill, I would get 25% off that too for all of us. Godlykepower
That is very generous of you Martin, let's go for that then! No problem!! I'm made of money. Yeah right, so broke I cant even pay attention. Just to clarify, before I end up getting lumbered with a bar bill for £800......if everyone gives me the money for 1 big bill, rather than lots of little bills, I can get it discounted. headhunter
I am very happy for The Premier Inn option to be explored, so I shall hold fire on the cottages until we hear if the Premier Inn can accommodate us. John

Godlykepower
Lets have a show of hands for the Premier Inn option then please. Soon as I have an idea of numbers & dates, I can sort something out for us. Martin
Mo Murphy
I'm interested Martin but it would be subject to price. I think that I would need a pretty sizable discount off the £65 per night room only though to tempt me Mo
Godlykepower
I'll try my best Mo! When are we thinking of doing this thing then? Have we all decided on the Peak District? Soon as I can get an idea of numbers of people wanting a hotel room, and at what time of year, I can get the ball rolling. Mart
Orange
Definitely up for a trip to the Peaks. Either weekend suits me. I'll be in the Premier Inn, please!
GBMUD
So that Martin (Godlykepower) can get a price out of Premier Inns, shall we set the date as being the weekend of the 21st to the 23rd of November? Scanning through the thread, the only dates which have been asked for were those so I hope that everyone else will be suited. Martin, would you please see what you can get as a group rate - though I would suggest that, if possible, any booking be left 'open' so that anyone who is a part of the group can book and pay for his own accommodation independently at the group rate. Does that make sense? Is that do-able? Failing that, I guess that we will all need to pay up-front to Martin in order that Martin can get us the best rate without personal risk. Where is the nearest Premier Inn located? What might security be like, I know that some people are rightly concerned about secure overnight parking... Threesheds; subject to the costs involved I would still be interested in the offering from the local hotel/inns you mentioned. Do you know or live locally to these establishments? Could you price them up as another option please? Stopping in pubs can be nice. So that is it, dates set for the weekend of 21st to 23rd of November.
