BogMonster
Also we'll need to generate 15,000lb + of drag to give the winch something to pull against. I was originally thinking a number of vehicles chained together, however I think its going to need quite a few, especially on a sandy surface.I don't fancy the logistics/safety of doing the pull on a slope with a number of vehicles chained together Try and get hold of a bulldozer or other bit of heavy plant? Depends on the location I suppose but if its on a weekend and there's a site nearby then somebody might be persuaded to leave something parked in a convenient place for a couple of cases of beer
MogLite
does that mean I can borrow the leccy boys shampoo and wash my hair that weekend? You'll have to grow some first
pugwash
how much does a tank weigh? i'm sure one of the military enthusiasts would drop by in a tank if you asked nicely! Something small like a scorpion should do it. Or how about a 7.5t truck? They weigh about 4.5t empty which isn't too far off what you want- if you got a flat bed you could put a lardy arsed land rover on the back and have an adjustable load for those winches which won't pull the full 15,000lb- ie truck plus land equals 15,000lb, truck minus landy equals 10,000lb. The maths eludes me at the moment, but I think you are assuming lifting and pulling are the same. Sure a loaded 7.5 tonner is a ~15,000lb lift, but you don't need anything like 15,000lb to drag it on a sandy surface.
dollythelw
You'll have to grow some first thanks pork boy - cant we just get some Japanese whalers in and harpoon your belly to the ground - gotta be enough ballast for a full pull then? I was assuming that you were pulling up a gradient with a high co-effiecient of friction. I hadn't actually worked out the forces but i could do i guess. Think my tank idea was probably bettter as far as weight goes- i'll go and work out how much weight you need on sand to equal a sideways force of 10,000lb and 15,000 lb. can't be that hard to work out! Tonk
just throw the 7.5tonner in one of the big holes there
dirtydiesel
Fine looking winch, god-like infact, much like the axle in the background. Anyway twig boy, what are you doing with "heavy" porn
Guest WALFY
how much does a tank weigh? i'm sure one of the military enthusiasts would drop by in a tank if you asked nicely! Something small like a scorpion should do it. You are on the right lines there with a tank. Aloaded AVRE (DON'T HAVE A PIC AT PRESENT) weighs just short of 70 ton IIRC. The resistance on flat tarmac is about 5 ton. So that means you need a good friend with a tank that does not alot to the gallon to bring you a tank. Works out kinda expensive. Unless you can get into a mil camp somewhere and just hook up a dead tank. I'm sure there are a few dead ones about. Scorpians' only weigh about 6 ton loaded so resistance would be negligable. 432 wieghs in at 16 ton loaded so a bit better but still not many of them about. If you wish to buy a tank then I think Jim Marsden has 1 for sale, or he did the last time I spoke to him. Lovely runner and only 1 careful owner
Jon White
Ought to just do it up at Slab common - plenty of stuck 62 tonne challengers there for you to "attempt" to winch out! Plus there'd be no fear of the recovery points coming off the tank. Jon

samwilk200
Could someone please point me in the direction of the results for this. Think it would make interesting reading. If they've been posted elsewhere sorry for being dumb!
GBMUD
I think it was cancelled due to lack of interest/complexity of set-up. It would have been won by a hydraulc winch - as long as the engine was running on the car. Chris

FridgeFreezer
Not cancelled, postponed until the electric boys have finished washing their hair... Seriously, I think this will go ahead some time but more planning needs to be done, the potential for something going wrong bigtime is not to be underestimated. Turbocharger
For the revived event, can I provisionally enter a "standard" Milemarker plus ZF74 pump? It's essentially the 'off the shelf' Milemarker. I have a plasma rope and plenty of time...
