  2. Beetle, Bronco, MX5 was a lotus re-made .. I think there is a lot when you start to think about it πŸ€”
  3. That's the joke of it! Even queried what they meant on one of the calls and they didn't have an answer!
  4. There's a qualification to be a builder? lol
  5. Teaser shots before my hols Now with original insert in position..ish Regards Stephen
  6. Hi Ed I al going to send some pics to a few peeps I know who are die hard LR spevialists - I need really to find the center diff, its sort of familair but just can't quitev pkace it, not LT230, the shafts and gear with the 9 spline drive gear is defo oddball ! Hey Ho hoping someone might have some ideas ! Nige
  7. Trouble is, I think it does. Just look at the more retro options on sale from other manufacturers. I think a time traveler would recognise a Jeep, or a Fiat 500 or a Gwagen
  8. Today
  9. It's in my bloody truck. You ain't having it. Unless you're going to add a locker to it as way of thanks. Probably not the most helpful but here are some picks of the complete unit. Prop comes from the LT95 transfer box, through idler to middle diff pinion, idler then through shaft. Through shaft then comes out the back to the rear of the trussed casing and takes drive to the rear axle. This was all based off a Stage 1 V8 so running 3.54 diffs but series drive flanges. I haven't pulled a half shaft to check splines but I could. I assume it's a standard diff centre the way they've done the drop box on the front but I haven't pulled it apart. Hotspur was dissolved a long time ago so no longer around. I could pull the rear prop off and see if the end attached to the diff casing looks like yours? There's a chance I might be able to see the splines without having to take off the nut or does the washer cover it?
  10. There were one or two parts in the old Defender that remained the same throughout the entire production. But these days "legacy" doesn't sell vehicles, although people will buy into the name. l guess the old Defender couldn't carry on as it was, but it's a shame LR didn't build a Grenadier.
  11. Sorry for the OT nature of this, and not even remotely LR related unless we count parking the 90 on the front or in the garage when she's finished! Feel free to bin it fellow mods if it's too far off the beaten track. Has anyone here got any experience with getting house insurance for a property that is both unoccupied and being renovated by yourself? Sticking point seems to the fact that I'm not a qualified trades person, and work is either being done by me/family/friends. The irony of the number of bodges and terrible workmanship we've removed isn't lost on me either It's currently '4' blank walls upstairs and downstairs, no non structural internal walls left bar one, just finished putting down the new floor sheets upstairs on Friday having prepped all of the under floor wiring and plumbing with my BIL/best mate previously. I am waiting back on a call from AJG about the renewal after going round the houses with them but I'm really not hopeful at the mo. Renewal came through as needing some questions answered, told that the flooring being up constituted structural work and they couldn't offer cover. Got the flooring sorted only to then be told they still were not interested as we are doing the work ourselves and don't have any kind of liability stuff in place. BIL has gone down the route of reinstating his (business still 'open' but employed elsewhere) for now in the hope that will sort it. It is however, a bit of a worry as last years policy expired at midnight Saturday. A policy that didn't care that we put a 5m hole in the back of the house, it just had an endorsement on the policy for it whilst we were doing it. Anyone got any ideas? I seem to be up the proverbial creek unless I somehow miraculously qualify as a builder overnight or finish the renovations inside 24 hours - the latter I've not exactly got a great record for
  12. That rings true for me. Obviously a different car - but a different brand too for me.
  13. Here's my update. Having now had the new Defender 18 months and 12,500 miles WHAT IF ANYTHING DO I MISS ABOUT MY OLD DEFENDER? Now l was thinking about this tonight while listening to my missus playing in a swing band. l was reading about a woman who was a Leprosy Doctor in Vietnam in early 1962, and she was kidnapped with her Land Rover. The vehicle was found but she was never seen again. And there was a girl in the 1990's who walked the length of Africa, her support vehicle was a 110 and later an old Series 90. A TV nature documentary about Africa, the presenter was driving around an ancient meteor crater in a green series 1 soft top with the screen lowered. The vehicle seemed almost a part of the African Bush, like the old trees it was driving past. And l was thinking, there's a connection, these two women above would have recognised a 2005 Defender as a Land Rover, l can imagine them opening the bulkhead vent flaps on theirs to try and get some air flow in the heat of Vietnam or Africa. And going on holiday in our Defender there was the connection, although a caravan site in the Lake District isn't quite Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. And that's what's missing from the new one. The legacy. There's no connection with the people who lived (and died) in Land Rovers back in the days when they were supplied to missionaries, aid workers and other people in far flung places. When you drive an old Land Rover you are following in the footsteps of these people, in some small way. But l don't feel it driving the new one.
  14. Is the one you have for spares etc or f of nige its in my truck ? 🀣 I'm not 100% sure what model it is other than I know company no longer in existence. I am hoping that I can either identify the bits needed LR wise or modify as I think it has been done ? Any help would be hugely apprewacited all Nige
  15. What did it come out of? If it's a Hotspur / Sandringham unit then I've got one here and might be able to provide some assistance. I know the directive from Land Rover to Hotspur was to keep as many parts as possible standard LR.
  16. There is also this shaft again looks sort of LR sort of thing ?? 6 spline one end 9 spline the other πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”
  17. Hi all i have been trying to save a 6 wheel drive through unit all was going well until the last bit of assembly it has a what looks like a center differential which I think has been modified prob is is seized solid in 2 llaces 1st is one of the 4 gears which as you can see from picture has got bonkers hot and welded itself to the cross shaft the 2nd is the drive gear in housing the other on a long shaft has come out after some work the company that made these kits is long gone but looking at this I think it’s sort of LR ish ? there may be some bonkers work to sort out if I can find what this is and get bits etc - it looks like one end has been welded on as some conversion ? anyone know what this might be / was pre modification ? fe pics
  18. David at LLama might be worth a ring (if you've got a day to kill ).... He's an importer of the Rough Country stuff in various sizes.
  19. afternoon all, What’s the Land Rover discovery 1 200 TDI clutch Bolt torque settings on the pressure plate please.
  20. Don't forget the hinge side.... you can beef up the lock all you want but if the hinges are standard butts then Mr Burglar will just jemmy the other side, these are a great addition IMHO: Smith & Locke Hinge Bolts Zinc-Plated 2 Pack - Screwfix
  21. Ours has the GateMate style lock and I'm quite pleased with it, it's very sturdy and the long throw makes it ideal for shed doors that may not have perfect panel gaps.
  22. For locks, I'm think about one of these style locks. https://www.toolstation.com/gatemate-premium-long-throw-lock/p40306 I was also thinking about this style as you can still shut the door after you've unlocked it. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/404947133560?itmmeta=01HXS2CS74KSHK16W2EQR3WCM6&hash=item5e48bae478:g:lAoAAOSwFEVmLhEz&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4BgKDW2P13YwM%2B0RHtl7mavI%2FIZv8JoFMmr5CBXES1PTOs3zeVu5QRovvNYLU1J%2BSn%2FwbVZsvbObxmrklXAaH3Mc1RjVlw3WqOp6Pi5%2FCO%2BNO0yhA5uw8NwRxYPEfMHoeMbAU8G90WUmlbAsnmmC4id67BOWwyf92MeZlFyFOc0buR0AqD77tEc9vIokT2dbuAxQ27E3RERaO9Z035OoIQk%2BA%2FiC8NR%2FKbPXZGskqsgEYb6ElMvlFUZ0dC5rGMGjHkBgvaTOZCrDZBIZL668ZYq8AGASxp6Z0leZkLLWGEqd|tkp%3ABk9SR_qTs6LuYw Steve
  23. Duct hasn't arrived yet, but I've drilled a hole for it through the base. However I may have forgotten to leave a gap in the insulation for an access hatch... πŸ€” On the plus side the bees that are nesting in the base were remarkably chilled about me core drilling and digging holes right next to their colony entrances! They did get interested enough yesterday that I decided it would be wise to give them a bit of space, but they haven't been remotely aggressive.
