  1. Hmm can't help but wonder how the Connolly hide and assorted tarty stuff will stand up to water leaks and dampness?!!!
  2. If I ever get my Riley Kestrel mk1 (1100) back on the road will you wave at that?!
  3. A bit like mine then!! Haven't quite got around to sorting out various odds and sods in loads of boxes since moving here in May 2012!!
  4. Ash yes, I do that in my Fiesta sometimes!?
  5. I wave at most Defenders and series unless they appear to be farmer's working vehicles. I also wave Discos that have snorkels/extra lights etc. Never had a wave from a RR ever!!
  6. To be honest, I have not experienced a clutch fork being punched through, but I have had two master cylinder failures! Whilst I can't discount problems with the clutch fork, the symptoms are not totally unlike master cylinder failure.
  7. That is the way I'd do it. If you then start pulling out fuses one by one, you can see where any current is going.
  8. Boost wheels with Continental 235/85 R16 Cross Contact Tyres
  9. Does a front fuel tank comply with safety legislation?
  10. Aargh yes! I'd almost forgotten the joy of resetting the position of the arm on the splined shaft!!
  11. I know there are thousands of happy people out there, but I can only speak from my experience. I spent ages (spread over several weekends in fact) adjusting the cable and trying the different mounting holes for the cable attachment. The last time, I got a trusted local garage to have a go and within two weeks it was juddering again - it was at this point I gave up and went back to the original drum.
  12. Alas my experiences with an Xbrake are similar:- if it is adjusted up so that the truck won't move when stationary, then it causes judder when accelerating, eventually leading to the pads overheating. If you slacken it off (having replaced the brake pads) so that it does not judder then you have to park it in gear or risk the truck taking off down the hill. After numerous attempts at adjustment etc I gave up and went back to the drum.
  13. Don't let HfH see this thread, he'll only go and cut himself with scissors!!
  14. Glad your truck is warm! It is also worth checking the Tech Archive and reading the thread about adjusting the heater control cables.
  15. Exmoor Trim offer forward facing foldaway seats. Sadly the lock and fold models (which are VCA approved) are expensive!!
  16. As far as sleeping in a Defender goes, I think you have made the right choice! The 110 hardtop is the most spacious by far! Insulation is essential though. If it doesn't have a headlining then fit one (or use carpet or camping mats etc) otherwise you will wake up in the middle of the night with condensation dripping on your face (don't ask me how I know!!) As has been said, the example on Gumtree does seem expensive. I know it has had some work done it and some goodies fitted, but you should be able to get something a little cheaper and perhaps slightly younger.
  17. "Seek'n'Seal" made by Comma was pretty good, but I'm not sure if it is still available though! Anyway Defender windscreen seals can look pretty knackered from the outside, but still seal well against the frame of the screen. Personally I'd check for corrosion before changing the rubber and as mentioned above there are a number of other possible causes. If you haven't done so already, take a peek at the water ingress manual in the Tech Archive.
  18. How about these guys? http://www.4x4solutions.co.uk/shop/shop.php?action=full&id=3327
  19. Lidl's are offering the cd/radio units again from Monday. http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/SID-206F01D2-8D7DCEDB/www_lidl_uk/hs.xsl/our-offers-2491.htm?action=showDetail&id=7624
  20. I used old fashioned Evostik to stick the carpet on and it stuck well, but I think the umpteen cans of glue ended up costing more than the carpet off cuts!!
  21. Carpet does work, but when I lined my previous hardtop it took tons of glue to make it stick! Some folk use foam camping mats and reckon it works well. I bought a roll of acoustic foam stuff with a flock covering, but haven't got around to fitting it yet!
  22. I have used plug in type seat heaters and they don't seem to last! I would stick using them as covers!
  23. My Dad used to use a flattish paraffin heater under his Austin 7 - not sure if it was made for heating sumps or if it was a greenhouse heater, but anyway it did the trick!
  24. I find the rear work light very useful as an additional reversing light when in a woodland or other unlit area, so the switch is fitted to the centre dash panel on my 2002 TD5. The genuine switch has a built in tell tale light. Just have to remember never, ever use it on tarmac!!!!!
