  1. Defenders from 200 TDI models onwards should be capable of cruising all day at 70, whether you are capable of withstanding the noise and discomfort is another matter!
  2. I used the Noise Killer foam rubber "eggbox" type kit on the roof of my hardtop. It works very well and has cut the resonance down and improved the warmth no end! One little mod I did though was to cover the internal struts firts. http://www.nkgroup.co.uk/product/land-rover-roof-section-using-25mm-egg-box/
  3. I thought the Mud Stuff one was German! Not that I'm bothered really - I have been toying with the idea of buying one for a while! I wonder if anybody makes a locking mechanism incorporated into a swing-away wheel carrier?
  4. Well we seem to have come to the conclusion that most Defenders have inefficient heaters. I would love a Eberspascher or Webasto, but can't justify the expense! As my 110 is parked outside my garage which has mains power, either an oil filled radiator or a pre heater device fitted to the engine will have to suffice on cold days! I will look into the options. Insulating the rear of my 110 TD5 hardtop made a huge difference, however I would say that the truck came with heated seats as standard and these are brilliant ! You do not need heated seats once the engine is up to temp!! To be honest the heated seat can get too hot! Radiator blinds; I've not tried one, but fitting a rectangular rubber sheet over part of the rad grille (avoiding the inter cooler) worked really well on my previous 300TDI. What would be great is shutters/blinds over the radiator that open/close according to the air temp. Cars in the 50s I think had rad blinds operated via a chain on the dash.
  5. I have a 90 in my kitchen and a 110 on the drive!!!
  6. Hella used to market an intermittent wiper kit - it was easy to wire and worked well. I think it has been discontinued though!
  7. A Defender is not an ideal vehicle to drive if you suffer with your back! I've suffered back pain on and off since my mid teens and to make things worse I have also had sciatica a few times too. In 2010 I was crippled with sciatica and could barely hobble down the road with a stick! Driving my Defender was just about possible on a short journey, but getting in and out was a nightmare. When it came to changing my truck in 2011, I decided to stick with a Defender. I decided to address the driving position though. Removing the rear bulkhead and fitting a strengthening bar to replace it allowed the seats to be adjusted a lot further back and raising the seat on Mudrails helped the driving position too. If you too are of a large, tall build this may help.
  8. I was really pleased that the local school is encouraging youngsters to buy poppies; last week Leah came home with a letter from school advising that poppies would be on sale.
  9. Fair comment! However to me it looks like a Defender roof strangely grafted onto Disco and Rangie bits! Legislation has killed the Defender, and for me it would have been better to leave it there rather than make a bitsa car that looks vaguely Defender-ish! Utterly fugly and I hope the design JLR have agreed on is better than Autocars idea,
  10. Well it is not an Annoyotron - I have one of these and have used it to good effect!
  11. It has worked for me - ask around the local independent garages and they should be able to recommend someone.
  12. I find a garden sprayer type thingy useful for getting the worst off before driving home or going to the local coin operated carwash.
  13. Don't know much about Latiude Cross, but Michelin XZL can delaminate quite badly!
  14. My vote is for Continental Cross Contact too! I bought some take offs last year and find them to be a very good all round tyre. I ran my 110 on Avon Rangemasters for a few years and they were pretty good too.
  15. What will be using your Defender for? What wheels does it currently have? Are you looking to replace the wheels as well? How much are you looking to spend?
  16. If an item is listed elsewhere it breaches eBay terms and conditions and could be pulled at anytime, particularly if somebody complains.
  17. I've stood on my bonnet (which has fairly ordinary chequerplate on it) without any problems and I'm built like the proverbial brick outhouse!!!
  18. I've got the Vanguard ones and I'm very pleased with them! They are not cheap though!
  19. Speak to the garage that is going to do the welding! It is much easier with extensions!!
  20. Nice one Mr Wabbit, but the ugly K%%% logo is enough to put me off!
  21. The surround would look better in black IMHO, but anyway the wire grille is much nicer than the SS sheets with holes cut out! I will have to keep my eyes open at auto jumbles!
