  1. Sorry, I meant the fuel line from the tank to pressure regulator.
  2. Speaking with other owners, I get the impression that most garages just replace the whole unit!!
  3. My experience with Pumas is limited, but my TD5 is miles better than my previous Defender which was a 300TDI. I have test driven a couple of Pumas and driven one on an off-road course for half a day, so can't comment on their longevity. My suggestion to test drive both was not flippant! There are a lot of dealers around who will have examples of both in stock and you are under no obligation to buy. As Happy Old Git says all Defenders corrode, however I think chassis parts have got thinner over the years particularly the rears members. I Waxoyled my TD5 shortly after purchase and have regularly inspected the chassis and dealt with any minor issues ever since. Personally I don't like the Puma dash layout and the way my knees bump the under dash! However you can't fault the improvements in heating and cooling!
  4. Shhh!! Apart from routine servicing, so far it has been a sticky turbo waste gate and a new MAF sensor! The DMF is as noisy as ever when cold, but has not got any worse!! Obviously the DMF and clutch will need replacing in a year or two...
  5. ^^^ Wot he said, but if it is an obvious break, then the DIY alternative is copper filings mixed with Araldite! Make sure that you use masking take so that it only goes where you want it to or you could end up with a sticky mess!
  6. Try and test drive both and make up your own mind!!
  7. Diluted bleach and a good rinse maybe?
  8. Would Hykee lock barrels work with central locking? Yes I'm a tart, but I've had enough of walking around vehicles checking every single door!! My TD5 has the long key barrels that work with the ignition key and owing to the central locking, the lock mechanisms have no wear - my old 300TDI could be opened with anything vaguely flat! I've gone an ordered Mantec window guards for the rear quarterlights and door. This will improve security considerably.
  9. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Continental 235/85 R16 Cross Contact Tyres on Boost wheels.
  10. Why not use an on/off switch with a warning light built in? I have a TD5 Defender and used a "spotlight 2" switch that matched the existing switches and filled up a vacant slot in the centre switch panel.
  11. I don't think that salt has much effect on exhausts (unlike chassis etc), most exhausts rot from the inside out!
  12. This is possible, but is not an engineering project! There are two options: (a) Form your own insurance company: Firstly find enough people with ££££££ to invest so that there is enough to cover all potential claims (and Public Liability i.e. 3rd party claims can run into millions). Next, agree a set of criteria so that similar risks can be pooled together for homogenous exposure. NB this must include all kinds of modifications. Work out expected loss ratios and profit margins (believe it or not but investors might like to see a little bit of growth on their investment!,) and once this is done calculate premiums! Market it, but let's face it there is a lot of competition out there already! Or (b) find enough interested owners of similar vehicles that have been modified to within agreed parameters that you can persuade an existing insurer to take the risk on-board. Alas both are unlikely!!
  13. How about an X-rad blind. It should blank off most of the radiator (but not inter cooler) when it is cold, but open up according to ambient temperature and have a fail safe mode so that if it goes wrong it remains open?
  14. . Exactly - this is what insurers term "moral hazard" and simply means your lifestyle/attitude may make you more of a risk than the guy who takes fully comp.
  15. OMG I had no idea that the rear window glass was that easy to remove! Scary stuff! I think that rear window grills will be my next purchase!
  16. I think a few "Wanted " type posters on the lampposts might be an idea too!
  17. A tracker is a good idea! The tracker company should notify you if your car is moving without the engine being on!!!
  18. I have a genuine Salisbury Oil Seal that is surplus to requirements! Make a small donation to forum funds and PM me your address if you want it!
  19. Get a Parrot (not the Norwegian Blue sort, I mean the Bluetooth ones!!)
  20. I have not seen any that cover the wheel boxes as well as the floor, but obviously you can buy some rubber sheeting and glue this on - I did this on my previous 110.
  21. Stolen parts are not the bargain less scrupulous types may think! At the end of the day whilst there is a market for stolen Land Rover parts we all pay in the form our increasing insurance premiums!!
  22. Britpart do one, and despite the brand name it's fine! I got mine off eBay a while back. It's thick rubber & does cut down the noise from the back.
