  1. I got completely cheesed off with Adrian Flux, online the quote was cheap, but every time I phoned them to discuss the quote the price went up a tenner and to this day I'm not convinced that they understood that my 110 has a second immobiliser, a tracker and various other security measures in place!
  2. £225 in Bromsgrove, with two no fault accidents in two years (one of which was a write off!)
  3. I remember viewing a number of Defenders at a dealer of used Land Rovers in Somerset. A number of cars featured pop riveted plates on the bulkhead !!, Despite this I still bought a non pop riveted 110 300 TDi which served me well for around 5 years without a hitch. As a temp measure a fix with filler of some kind may buy you extra time.
  4. I bought an extendible brace a while back and it shifts the most recalcitrant of nuts!!!
  5. Ultimately it is personal choice, but I too much prefer the free revving nature of the TD5. My current TD5 has been very reliable and apart from a new rear section of the exhaust and a new battery hasn't needed anything apart from regular servicing. My old 300tdi was only slightly less reliable... Bear in mind that 200 & 300 TDi models will be older, however still good engines.
  6. Well like most of us (I suppose) I love my Defender and its idiosyncrasies, leaks, panel fit, spiders, heater that is either on or off and a thousand other things. However I can't help but wonder why there is no immediate replacement in the pipeline, or indeed why it wasn't replaced many years ago! The current regulations make it nigh impossible to produce a more basic 4 X 4 workhorse and so JLR are quite happily churning out Range Rovers and Discoveries that are all bristling with the latest features but most of which will never see a green lane, farm track or off road site ever! If a development of the Defender had been rolled out a decade or so ago we might have had some kind of decendent of the original design still around. Such a vehicle could have had a chassis/bulkhead designed with air bags in mind and perhaps a body designed with the purpose of keeping water out more in mind!
  7. Don't use poison if owls are around. Traps should be used - man up and deal with the mess!
  8. The mod of extending the aerial up the A post is quick and simple - I'm pretty sure it's in the Tech Archive. The range of the remotes decreases as the battery gets weaker.
  9. It may be worth checking the return spring on the pedal when you take it out. They can break and it is worthwhile doing whilst you have the pedal out. BTW don't be tempted to buy cheap slave and master cylinders! Steer clear of blue boxes!!
  10. I'd stick well clear of Windows 10 for the moment! I tried it at home and regretted it! I think it needs a lot of bugs fixing!
  11. Mounting it an inch or so higher would make all the difference I reckon (well it would for this 6' shorty!!)
  12. How about something nice and easy?!! X-mirror mount! For people of about 6' or so the standard interior rear view mirror is much too low and blocks the view of the screen!
  13. That was my point! Apart from the mat, I won't let anything that comes in a blue box within 10 feet of my 110!!!
  14. I bought a Britpart load area mat and that works well!!
  15. I've seen better looking garden sheds!!! Perhaps the "designer" of this monstrosity should team up with Mr Kahn??!!!
  16. A local car park in the centre of Bromsgrove has a height restriction on the exit only! I am so tempted to drive in there and then ring up the helpline pretending I'm stuck! In fact the perimeter of the car park is a low kerb with a little slope that presents no problem to a Defender.
  17. I think height restrictions should be on signs well in advance of the car park entrance allowing you to look for another car park without doing the typical Defender 7 point turn and holding up and annoying other drivers! I would never attempt a multi-storey car park in my 110, but sometimes get caught out with the barriers and clattery things on ordinary car parks. I got a nasty case of "roof rash" from a car park at Goodrington Sands in Devon recently. There was little chance of reversing or turning around and so I s-l-o-w-l-y edged in under the clatter bar with hardly any noise and no damage. Getting out though was far noisier and left a large yellow streak down the roof. The clatter bar was lower on the exit lane than on the entrance! Fortunately most of the streak polished out with T Cut.
  18. My 110 came fitted with a wheel carrier of unknown provenance! Works quite well, but no greasing points! I keep meaning to take it apart and drill/tap some holes to fit grease nipples,
  19. £75?? Well if you are feeling flush you could always go with these German electrically controlled mirrors distributed by Exmoor Trim. http://www.exmoortrim.co.uk/store/hofele/land-rover-110/electric-mirror-set-detail.html I think I'll give them a miss!!!!
  20. Well as it happened I sold my 300TDI complete with baggy headlining and bought a TD5 with a headlining in good condition! As it is a hardtop with bare metal at the back I bought some of the Noisekiller eggbox type foam for the roof and it works a treat!
  21. I had the same idea and found a suitable image on the net to print and use.
  22. Fugly beyond words! I bet it still leaks though!!!
  23. Fairly busy at the moment, but when were you thinking of?
  24. Probably not of help, but in the freezing weather the rear door lock is the only one to unlock with Central locking...!! I can get the front doors to behave (for a while) with Central locking after a lot of light grease and WD40!
