  1. I’m back on the hunt now - the chap turned up today but his were white 8 spokes 😞 he thought they were standard Defender wheels. I’ll try Vass as above - but if anyone has a set, please let me know.
  2. That sounds a brilliant idea ... I like that I can keep everything centred in the seat box with that. This is for my 80 and I want the modern creature comforts as hidden as possible. I can see the merits in a 2nd battery for ancillaries and a master switch - but on this one I don’t have the space for a second battery and if we can forget to turn a heated seat switch off, I’m sure we could forget a master switch 😊 That’s an interesting thought .... I have an oil pressure sender that won’t be being used. Good food for thought there - thank you.
  3. I wouldn’t change the alpine seals unless they are leaking - they were split on my last one but it never leaked, whereas alive Domenic across people changing them and struggling to get them to not leak ....
  4. I’m planning to put heated seats, USB sockets, along with a diesel heater in my series - powered from a separate fuse box off the battery, which lives under the passenger seat. There is no other wiring there - so I’m thinking if I want to stop the heated seats being left on and flattening the battery I either need to run a switched live in to a relay or perhaps fit a timed relay? Any pro’s and cons to either or any other option I’ve not listed ?
  5. Ahh - I’ve just bought some ! But thank you !
  6. Thanks for sharing - I’m looking forward to it coming together 😊
  7. Old cars used to smell of wood, leather, and petrol to me 😊
  8. That was my though - but to take the pressure off getting the 90 turned around in too short a time. You might perhaps even get some of your money back selling it on again after.
  9. Thanks guys. I know someone with a TDCi who has just fitted a set of boost wheels, so I’ll make an offer. at this point of being about to buy tyres I’m thinking I want the added performance and safety of a radial tyre. It means a bigger outlay - so I was hoping the wheels won’t be a fortune. With them being for a series I didn’t want wolf or modulars - as standard a look as possible but able to take the more modern tyre.
  10. I’m thinking of putting some Defender steel wheels on my series so I can run tubeless radials - can anyone give me a pointer of what would be a fair price for a set of 5 please?
  11. I think some of that may be people fixing their links and switching to another service. I notice that photobucket seem to have got rid of the button to download all of your pics in one go.... but info here on a straightforward workaround to that... gist.github.com/philipjewell/a9e1eae2d999a2529a08c15b06deb13d
  12. Cornish - when your 2a and my 80” is done we could perhaps meet up for a ride out ?
  13. Expensive fix though - plus the downside that you end up without a Land Rover 🙄
  14. I posted about mine a while ago - but haven’t got round to trying to bend it. Mine is the other way though the gap is in the middle with the top and bottom of the door bent in. When I’m feeling strong I’ll try and get a bit medieval on it.
  15. I’ve loved reading this Ralph - first the chassis, then all the miscellaneous galv brackets, now a fresh motor! You’ve a lot of happy miles ahead of you again. Brilliant !
  16. You're posters always make me smile (though none more than the skotch lock one). Though this feels less of a heated debate than idle musing amongst friends? 😊
  17. I'm surprised they are doing this: http://www.off-road.com/blog/2017/09/15/fancy-wheeling-guvnor-jlr-adds-defender-experience-centers/
  18. What would it look like with the .com underneath the 4x4 bit? But so that it still sat on a single line ..
  19. I like mud monkey's too - except for the .com being in the 4...... I think it's because it doesn't centre so well with the 4 sloping. Not sure what an alternative might be... Love the rest of it though - looks fresh and modern.
  20. I read that phosphoric acid is the active ingredient in most rust converters - so I bought some and have started to try it. I'm too soon in to give a definitive review - but it seems to be working fine.
  21. Well that's weird .... it was a restored series 3 pick up - with rebuilt axles on a galvanised chassis.
  22. How about this one? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222618754516
  23. If you're new to old vehicles - then it may be worth being clear that it's standard vehicles that will keep their value. So either a restored one or an un-restored one in original condition are much less likely to lose you money if you sell it and much more likely to turn into an asset if you keep it.
