  1. That's very kind too ! Thank you I've been looking at this one on eBay ; http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=161633158420 Quite local to us and cheap to boot.
  2. I think that 1000 ton one broke doing my last A Frame ball joint .
  3. That's a kind offer thank you ! I have a bit of space available and was thinking, that whilst i don't expect to use it that often, I do want to work through the 90 and replace all the bushes for new standard ones. Plus the a frame ball joint....
  4. What's the minimum tonnage you'd consider useful for a LR ? The price jumps quite a bit from 6T to 12T and onto 20T. Is a gauge of great benefit ? Or just press it until it's in ? Apologies for the ignorance !
  5. On the series 1 front - once my 80 is done I plan to take a summer trip into the Alps with it. A bucket list item for me.
  6. Wow thanks everyone - tons of good info here ! Is it definitely a hi vis per occupant ? Everything I've read seems to be saying carry 'one' ? I've bought LRM to see what info is in their article. I've also spent a bit of time fiddling with the Michelin route planner. What makes the route planning difficult though is two things : * I think when it estimates journey time it uses the maximum speed limit. So when using Auto Routes it's thinking I'll be doing 80 ....... So I can't get a clear comparison to how much longer the smaller roads would take. *when picking where to deviate from the auto routes into the RN's I don't know which are the most scenic areas to do so on. If I was on my own I'd be less fussed about planning it so accurately - but I'll have my 3 year old girl in the back so I need to factor breaks and length of journey in for her. It's all very helpful - thank you. I'm less daunted and more excited now.
  7. That is helpful - thanks. We're driving into the Alps. First go for us - though I've wanted to do it for ages.
  8. Coupd anyone tell me the gasket/seal part numbers that go behind the td5 windscreen brackets. The bolt part numbers would be useful too please.
  9. Oh ! I'll have to get myself down the shops and see if it's there. Thanks.
  10. I figured it must be that when you said disconnecting it cured it - it was contradicted by the readings but, what was that thing Sherlock holmes said ? - when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth
  11. I wondered what people's thoughts are on taking a Defender through France - wether to go on the toll roads or take the A or D roads. The toll roads are certainly quicker - but I won't be sitting at 80mph in the Defender to take advantage of it. I'm more likely to be sitting at 60. Any suggestions from anyone else's experience ?
  12. Yes - it does seem to be a no go for the Td5 onwards swivels ...
  13. Spooky ! He just replied. They do them without the tree bars on them. I fancy some with the jacking tubes in.
  14. No reply to my email - looks like the only use the phone. Will have to make some time in office hours to give them a ring.
  15. I'm not sure about the hidden areas - I can't think that there would be many on a rolling series - and what there is won't be caked in 50 years of paint like the rest of. I guess my preference here is more about a bit of expediency than out and out thoroughness - which is hard for me as its against my normal nature.
  16. The chap I'm hoping will do it has a series - so hopefully all will be well. Perhaps there is something I could mask them off with for a bit of security......How did your chassis turn out ? Any pictures you might share ?
  17. I have a series rolling chassis where the whole thing needs blasting. The chassis, axles, steering rods, everything is caked in thick horrible paint accumulated over the years. My question is what are people's thoughts on having it blasted as a rolling chassis ? Rather than stripping it down. I have someone telling me to pull it to bits, 'it's only a few bolts' 'Need to be careful' etc etc I have someone else saying 'I did mine as a whole, it's been fine, it was easier to move transport it' etc etc What's everyone's thoughts on it ? Having it done as a rolling chassis is attractive simply because it's less work - as there's an awful lot to do on it without total disassembly - I'm also concerned about mission creep too.....
  18. Have you don't that little filter in the fuel filter housing ?
  19. The red will presumably be the new live feed ?
  20. Where abouts are you ? (Sorry if it's in your profile - I'm viewing from the mobile site, which doesn't show it).
