  1. In that photo it just looks a bit grubby and oxidised compared to the rest of the motor ..
  2. <further slap awaiting mode> I was wondering that too ...</further slap awaiting mode>
  3. Superwinch will sell them to you - go to superwinch.co.uk. You can get the part numbers from within the tech archive.
  4. What is the story with those return to centre dampers? I'm more than happy with the self centring geometry built in by Land Rover - but there appears to be a Market for them?
  5. My Td5 speedo came with a rubber o ring where it fits into the dash, which has broken, and I can't seem to find it shown in any of the parts book? Anyone know what it is please?
  6. BINGO ! - Thanks Steve. I think we both owe you one :-)
  7. Thankyou Steve. I'll give it a try and let you know.
  8. I'm meeting dirtydiesel, aka Dan, tomorrow up in the lakes to show him some lanes - and I've misplaced his phone number ....... Does anyone have his number on here, so I can let him know that I want to change the meeting time. It'll have to be his mobile as he's staying in a Premier Inn type place tonight.
  9. Dave is right. Assuming you are using shock mounts in the standard position: you've put springs on that give a 2" lift. So the distance between your axle and chassis is now 2" greater, then you have 2" longer shocks which match the increased distance giving you the same downwards travel as a standard set up. You 'may' gain a little travel on compression - theoretically it's where extra 2" is - but the stronger spring probably won't compress that much.
  10. Mo, having done that yourself makes you a masochist - encouraging us to do it is sadism :-)
  11. First thoughts are that if it's working across different and separate circuits - then it must be an earth or melted wiring. Though I have seen a faulty dim dip stalk produce movement in the fuel gauge ? You say you've never had the head lights come on with side lights - but say you have a dim dip set up ? That's what happens of course with dim dip when the engine is running... bit confusing that?
  12. If you think of it as a ball and socket joint - the ball should move easily in the socket - but should be a snug fit with no play.
  13. The ball joint holds the rear axle in two planes: it stops it rotating in the directions the wheels turn - and also stops it moving side to side. The large housing in the top picture mounts to the chassis with two arms - forming an 'A' shape (thus the A Frame ball joint name) - the hole you see is where the actual ball joint mounts which bolts to the axle. The ball joints are notoriously difficult to remove from the housing without a serious press - thus the attraction of the Gwyn Lewis option. Hope that helps.
  14. I've used electric water pumps on motorbikes - and they replaced the engine driven one. The big plus is that they thus work independent of the engine revs - It should stop that thing where engine loads are high but engine revs are low. I have one that is thermostatically controlled so you put in a temperature and it will adjust its speed to maintain it (providing of course the rest of the system can deliver that temperature) hth
  15. Thank you everyone for the really nice messages Cherish your health and make sure you enjoy yourself !
  16. Thanks guys They say life begins at 40 - well I'm 40 in a few days and it really does feel like its beginning
  17. As I said - totally off topic ... probably against forum rules ... and certain to be no interest to anyone but me ...... But I've had some really good news, which has made me a bit giddy I've been having really quite aggressive hospital treatment for a blood disease since July - and just got my latest results yesterday - and I'm fixed I'm telling everyone at the moment - I'm so excited I can't think straight. lol I've so many jobs I want to do on the Landy that I haven't had the strength to - and now I'm REALLY looking forward to a summer of doing things. FANTASTIC.
  18. Hmmm - £2.5k isn't much for a rust free, reliable and economical 4x4 ...
  19. Carrie Fisher came out with a wonderful quote:
  20. Ed - that doesn't read so well. Your post could come across as seeming to just say 'you caused a problem, which I won't recount, but I'm such a lovely chap - I put it all right' To be constructive tell turbo, who has shown good intentions, what the substance of the complaint was?
