  1. Likewise. Back in early Feb. Flew out to Spain to prune some Almond orchards. Flew back four days later, then 6 days after I was two weeks with a nasty virus, breathing issues, constant headache etc. Had the edge of a cough ever since...

  3. I'm busier than usual - mainly because it's so easy to work longer hours. I'm still doing the occasional site visit, which is nice. I enjoy not being in the office as I have nothing in common with most of my colleagues. Most of them are engineers, so have problems with normal speech - anything more than one syllable, personal hygiene and eating crayons. They don't understand my work and so, like fire, it is best avoided. Added to which, my work destroys their work, so I'm top trump - this confuses them. My work also confuses the 'bean counters', a sub race of civil servants that has split off from homo sapiens, to form what is known as Homo quantitysurveyorensis - one of those dead end splits of the genetic line. Like Smaug, they like to sleep on piles of money, dreaming of yet more forms to delay, or if possible negate any expenditure...

  5. Reverse pressure bleeding makes this whole process rather easy
  6. did you reverse bleed with a pressure bleeder? If so, did you run about 500ml of fluid through?
  7. I think it's more to do with the separate chassis Ralph. My Disco isn't based on a commercial and it has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500kgs (4000kgs is fitted with air) The old SWB Daihatsu Four Track (leaf sprung) had a max towing capacity of 3,500kgs - always an interesting drive A Freebie 1 has a towing capacity of 2,200kgs Maybe it was calculated with a set of dice
  8. Just looking at the LED flat Oil Pressure doofah and it also does water temp, boost and EGT I have a second water temp sender on the lower LHS rad tank I could do with a BOOST measuring doofah And an EGT sender is an easy thing to acquire/fit
  9. I've already ordered am 'OE' unit of Bearmach. Most likely an Intermotor unit in a Bearmach box/bag Nick, I'm tempted to leave the pressure tester hooked up permanently, but under the bonnet

  11. Rich One 'cut off switch' minimum of 500 amp, use marine cut off switches, they are well priced, or the big version of Ralph's. Things will most likely go 'FUBAR' when the winch is close to stall , so pulling max amps One solenoid to operate the winch - the Thomson unit is brilliant, worlds ahead of an Albright and sensible money

  13. To be fair, this style of pressure switch is famous for it's unreliability - but I've never had problems until this vehicle/engine
  14. I'm on my 11th 200 tdi since 1992. In the previous ten, I have never had to change an oil pressure switch. My 11th - a 1993 Disco 5 door, I am about to fit my third in 2 years. I'm using Intermotor switches, not Britpart. Every time one fails, I have to double check all is ok, so have the joy (and mess of using a oil pressure test kit. Pressure is fine 50+ psi on cold start tick-over and 38 psi on warm tick-over. Using Shell Rimula 10W40 I've ordered another switch - OE from Bearmach, but am contemplating fitting an electric oil pressure gauge to avoid annoyance in the future I'm aware that 200tdi owners are now a select few - has anyone else had this problem?
  15. I'm what they call 'The Soft Estate Manger' for Highways England. So essentially a Landscape Manager or Estate Manager. There's only one of me in the UK, but my patch is Tewkesbury to Penzance, to Southhampton, to Swindon; all the Motorways and Trunks. As I work with engineers, I tend to end up doing all the things that confuse them. They find trees and green very confusing but that means they like to cut the budgets year on year and not bother to ask before they make decisions.... Our motto at HE is 'Progress through inefficiency, sustainable incompetence for a brighter future' but I can't say that in public
  16. I had to drop down to the office this evening, pick up some mail, do some other stuff. M5 was lovely, me and one HGV. I took the very backest of back roads to the M5, just to enjoy the evening and listen to the roar of the mighty 200 My key worker status has been returned, although OH have told me I can't leave the house for 12 weeks because I'm delicate. I can do most of what I need to from home (except collect the post). Organised a road clearance last night, whilst sitting in my extension and having a chat on Off Road Worldwide. Whats app and SKYPE/TEAMS etc are making things so much easier; one of our ops just sent me a video of the incident site and that was enough... My wife has managed to move some of her stuff home, which has made it easier for me and looking after the kids, but she's still doing a lot of extra shifts on comms We are both applying for home working after this is all sorted - split the eek between us. I'll do site visits two days a week, work from home three. Hopefully I'll never have to go into a meeting again; just sit at home in my underwear talking into a microphone and pretending the video link is shot

  19. Probably best to just replace the springs Just go RED/RED both sides at the back and yellow/yellow at the front. Gwyn Lewis does some nice 6 mm shims A friend with a garage down on the south coast has a customer with a Hyland. Rust will be a big problem. Get it waxoyled

  21. when I do this, I tape a layer of brown paper over the clean face of the top of the block - just as a belt and braces safety measure....
  22. To simplify, its a mod that improves longevity - so folk remove the seal to allow oil to flow through to the splines
