  1. Don't forget project iceburg was started in the late 70's
  2. Out of interst, have you found a way of making a special tool to remove that fron glo-plug?
  3. The VM 2.5 Rad is capable of taking two more rows with the standard tanks. Not an expensive job. I love the VM. I've had 2. Both 2.5 So much low down torque. The Turbo comes in at 1,110 RPM... I think what kills them is: a). People expecting V8 performance b), Cheap and poor maintenance The Jeep 2.5 Diesel is essentially the same engine and it doesn't suffer poor maintenance. Head Gaskets are critical - but if one fails, do all. The without fail, re-torque the head bolts at 1k miles - THIS IS ESSENTIAL They eat glow plugs for a pastime. And number one is hidden behind the fuel pump - and utter barsteward to get to. They are linked so if one fails, the rest in line don't work. It needs gloplugs . Unlike a 200tdi ,which will start in minus 15, with no glo Lift the Expansion tank as high as it will go, without hitting the bonnet. Replace the brass RRC one with a transparent 200/300 tank - bigger/higher Use a really decent 15W40, like Shell Rimula Commercial - then do the changes at 4k; so it's still cleanish Add an intercooler - bring that Charge temp down. My memories of the one trip to Maderia I was lucky enough to make, was a lack of flat bits. Doesn't need to be huge, but add one. I think that's it
  4. Firstly, get a load of spare Christmas trees to re-fasten the panel back on. The original ones are prone to snapping The actuator - from memory - is built into the lock assembly. Child lock can be controlled from a Rovercom iQ, rather than a little metal switch
  5. Abstract The increasing global demand for energy and the potential environmental impact of increased energy consumption require greener, safer, and more cost-efficient energy storage technologies. Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have been successful in meeting much of today’s energy storage demand; however, lithium (Li) is a costly metal, is unevenly distributed around the world, and poses serious safety and environmental concerns. Alternate battery technologies should thus be developed. Zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) have recently attracted attention due to their safety, environmental friendliness, and lower cost, compared to LIBs. They use aqueous electrolytes, which give them an advantage over multivalent ion batteries (e.g., Mg2+, Ca2+, Al3+) that require more complex electrolytes. However, as with every new technology, many fundamental and practical challenges must be overcome for ZIBs to become commercial products. In this manuscript, we present a timely review and offer perspectives on recent developments and future directions in ZIBs research. The review is divided into five parts: (i) cathode material development, including an understanding of their reaction mechanism; (ii) electrolyte development and characterization; (iii) zinc anode, current collector, and separator design; (iv) applications; and (v) outlook and perspective.

  7. I'm about to fit my 12th 200Tdi and everyone has had a different sound. I find they change sound with fuel type. Vary in sound as they run through the 12k cycle prior to adjusting the tappets. With new shells, again they sound different. Even different oils affect the sound. The difference in sound proofing and damping is enormous.. In a Disco 200, you can chat at 75/80...In a 110 maybe 60. In my mate's Series 1 88", you need a motorcycle comms system at 30. I like the general reliability of a 200, but I've often thought of going back to petrol. I have an open option to buy my MPi back. Something I'm tempted to do, most weeks. But I need to tow and to tow off tarmac. So I need a 3.5 tonne towing capacity and bottom end torque As and when I go back to a Series, I'll most likely go petrol. Probably a 2.5 with a supercharger. A friend is converting a 2.25 to a 2.5 and has both a 2.25 Supercharger kit and a 2.25 turbo kit so I'll see what they are like. Or maybe an Mpi lump in a Series...
  8. Freeze/Heat Warm it up to hot, then when it's cooled , use plumbers freeze spray to super-cool it. I made up a socket, using a pin socket and then used the rattle gun to assist in breaking the rust bond
  9. Richard, get a fibre mallet and give it a good hard whack. It's just bi-metalic corrosion and rtv sealant. Gigglebiz do a proper gasket. hold it in place with Heldite jointing compound
  10. But throwing an LS in a Defender or a D1/2 is kind of pointless, as you have to change the whole drive-train. Also add the extra $5k to fit the engine, that you bought for $7,700.. Then you find out it's not actually that frugal... so you might as well fit a rebuilt RV8
  11. They are sold under the Dominator brand as well. So well respected. The days of cheap Chinese copies are lagging behind us. Most Chinese winches are very good. But, like most Chinese designed stuff, not overly complicated. So no additional water resistant seals - like the TDS When one winch company does come up with a new idea it gets copied fast However I'm generalising here - Taiwan is probably the leading designer and manufacturer of modern, hi volume sales, winches. So China tends to acquire there designs - like with the TDS Here is a quote from a senior member of the Come Up sales team "I just want to let you know, the King-one has copied our cone-brake patents back in 2006.the Chinese woman in your post, she was the accountant staff in our China factory and has no mechanical knowledge. When she got fired in 2006, she stole our design and set up another winch factory. She purchased the same parts from our supplier in China. That's the reason why King-one products are so similar to our DV and Seal series. All the winch factories in China know this story" For us, the buyer, we get a selection of pretty good kit. But what changes is the materials. So the cheaper end winches are made form cheaper materials. Your Iron man winch is expensive because it's imported into Aus, then out again. And Iron-man is expensive in the UK - containers are expensive. I used a couple of these generic winches whilst in Aus last year. Perfectly decent bit of kit. But... the TDS is better. It's a better design, bigger main shaft, more water resistant and easy to get parts for
  12. It's one of the generic Chinese made winches. Probably ok; as long as you maintain it. You could get better for less TDS winches are imported by Goodwinch and a few others - all the same. Look at this https://www.firstfour.co.uk/product/tds-c12000tdsc-12-volt-winch/ Brilliant winch, well made and reliable. The 12k version is better to work than a 9.5k...
  13. One of the many You Tube sites, who do LR work in 'murica, tried one. They came up with the results that it simply wasn't worth doing financially
  14. I found out about it when I worked for LR . I left there 17 years ago... I would try asking Gaydon?
  15. I borrowed a V70 2.4T earlier this week. 200bhp but so gently progressive..lovely car
  16. The return to centre isn't really a steering damper. It's more of costly gimmick
  17. A number of utilities ordered them, so many that Land Rover actually type approved them for Defender, along with 265/75x16. Discovery one is approved for 225/75x16 and 215/85x16. Speshul Vehicles used to have to get IVA for various mods for big orders, so it was cheaper to get the main factory to do stuff like tyres/wheels for stuff like that. Hutchinson (3) bought some 260 D2 commercials off LR; with an internal cage for the roof rack support, rear jump seat and so on. So it got build approval.... Freebie TD4 commercial autos for 02 - same thing
  18. The more I see of it, the more I like. I agree wholeheartedly with Deep. If I had the money, I'd have one. For me, it works.
  19. Worth noting, Terrafirm kit is cheap. Made to low cost in China, big mark up from the wholesaler, big mark up from the retailer. Quality is better than it was, but still averages 1 replacement for every 10 shocks sold.. The springs are very good - although the powder coating is carp. Better to look at OME - as Britpart import them now and have a good deal. The Devotech springs form D4x4 are very good As previously mentioned, the standard OEM is very good - especially the Delphi gas shocks (£16 each). Trimming the flairs works well - keeps your CoG better. I wouldn't bother with the 33/10.50 - I'd go 255/85x16. Similar size and cheaper - also fitted to Factory for some applications so homolgated for the vehicle.
  20. Something we were all taught in the day, on bike or in car. My first 'big' motorcycle - a Kawasaki H2 750, with an H1 500 front end, was drum braked back and front. The modification was done, because the drums were better than the discs. A blatant copy of the Norton Commando front drum, with air flow ducting and drain holes, to dry the drums quickly... Drums work, but only if you drive knowing you haven't got discs
