Gerber stylee multitool - recommendations?
Nonimouse replied to ThreeSheds's topic in Tools and Fabrication
Leatherman honour their warranty - even after 23 years I wore out the old pliers on my Supertool, bought in 1995. Rang up, was sent a form via email, filled it in and sent it back with said Super tool - week later Brand Spankers New Super-tool 300 in the post. Gerber are an utter pain to get anything out of -
James has been after one for ages, but at auction a tidy one is 15k, so when this one came up in London On Sea, it was a no brainer It's going to be a double cab, road legal, but useful for accessing the farm in the winter.

Nick - It's in the store waiting for your next return

It is a very early long wheel base Halflinger... £500 for the seized engine, chassis and some (very few) body panels Engines are easy - we know a man with quite a few and some tuning mods Note the portal axles

Thoughts and musings on the new defender
Nonimouse replied to Jamie_grieve's topic in New Defender Forum (2020 onwards)
I quite like it. My big concern is that it will mirror the idiotic issue with the D5, namely the tapered boot, chronically uncomfortable second row seats and finally, the awe inspiring unreliability (one of our motors is on it's fourth Turbo in less than 10k) -
Hi mileage on a 200 is 500k 😊 The gradual strip is probably your best option Can you record a sound clip?
-
Sounds daft I know, but sound can travel on a 200. I had an issue with an odd noise I couldn't pin down, sounded a bit like a lot of things. It was the vacuum pump. I'd suggest chasing the noise around the lump
-
Sounds all workable I'll be at Adventure Overland if that helps.. If not, lets liaise

I was down there on the Glass stand. With one of only 2 200tdi Discoverys I saw at the show My first time. We camped at the site over night. Really enjoyed the show

I'm surprised your 500kg lift tops out so low. Iifted some stupid stuff with 500kg lifts - including a Ginetta and an 86" Hard top. I've regularly off loaded/loaded 1 and 1.2 tonne pallets with them as well Are you sure it's not because the previous operators were less than kind? Not doubting, but just looking for options

Suspension...Heavy load or standard??
Nonimouse replied to RGK's topic in Modified Vehicle Builds & Special Projects
I'd echo what Daan says... Figures are what you need For all his faults, RED 90 did the best guide to spring rates on the net - just google Land Rover spring specifications Work out your weights: You can't carry more than 75kgs on your roof rack, if you are in Europe Your max carrying load is 650kgs (so less 75kgs on the roof, is 575kgs inside, including your passengers You can't up-rate this without fun times at the DVSA I'm pretty sure max draw bar load is 150kgs Allow 2/3 to 1/3 load split I've used air bags in the rear springs - superb. My set original set are in a 3 door Range Rover, in the Sierra Nevada, doing 12k miles a year fully loaded and towing, mostly on gravel, ballast and rock tracks. I bought them in 2003. They've had a hard life. These days I use OME 764 Medium load on the rad of the Disco, slight lift from standard. I run fully loaded, empty and towing from 1 to 3.5 tonnes, on motorway to E class. Britpart sell OME , so you can get a deal The other option I'd suggest is RED/WHITE OE all round. These were developed for the old Police RRC, have a slight lift and are very good for what you want. Stick with the TF Big Bore shocks. TF used to be utter carp, but have improved immeasurably in the last couple of years. Twin shocks are a waste of time unless you get them perfectly set up and big bore or remote reservoir stuff does the same job -
I have a genuine Warn motor for an M8000, rebuilt some time back. It's yours if you can get it collected form Somerset
-
Cheap easy fix, undo four bolts, mark the sliding joint, remove, relocate, do up four bolts Or buy a DC prop/Rebuild one, change the out put flange to a TD5 unit, fit the prop Nick, I've a spare, rebuilt DC prop if you want it

Simply too many to list... First was a 1976 FSIE 1975 AP50 1976 SS50 All comprehensively written off AR50 with 83cc big bore kit, all-speed pipe, cast iron rings, fancy reeds - such fun Passed test on a DT175 twin shock with 125 side panels and acid etch removal of 174cc form the cylinder Then bought a 1974 H2 750 Triple 'Widow-maker' with all-speeds Then a fair few English bikes - favourite being the 1974 Triumph T100 Daytona closely followed by the Enfield Interceptor S2 Dabbled in Italian stuff - mainly Moto Morini The Honda - best being the Super Blackbird... Loads of Land Rovers From S1 to D2 - no freelanders All sorts of other stuff, from Jap pickups to an Audi Quattro RR and a Honda CRX 1.6litre V-Tec Turbo, family barges and now the Mighty Modus -
Would it not be possible to look at oil quality/grade I've moved over to commercial/plant grade oils on my Disco; for example 10-40 non synthetic engine oil and non synthetic ATF.... I find that these are far better quality and much longer lasting (as well as being available in 200litre drums). Gearbox and t box run quieter and smoother, as well as cooler (I followed fridges suggestion some years ago).

PAS Steering Box.....Recomendations
Nonimouse replied to Hybrid_From_Hell's topic in International Forum
The adwest recon boxes now have a phosphor bronze sleeve that loses the crappy bottom bearing, they are machined to take a deeper oil seal as well - hence the huge price...no idea if they work I buy them form C&D motor factors in Bridgwater for about 200notes, recon (but not by adwest) and don't usually have issues
