  1. No, I needed to get the deal done and dusted asap Got the guard thrown in the deal along with a towbar, overmats and one or two other bits. This guard is better thought out than the one I had (well still have as I oiked it and other stuff out the TD5 XS before I chopped it in) as rather than take the whole section out it's got a drop down bit in the bottom section to stick long things through. The anti-corrosion seems to be a mix of thin black waxy stuff and thin clear waxy stuff. If I keep it I'll top it up with some Waxoyl sometime. Found nothing amiss yet other than a fir tree fastener missing from one of the C post trim panels presumably overlooked when fitting the guard, and the wheel security nut adapter not being present - oh and they had run out of freebie umbrella's, can't think why
  2. Few more pics... Seatbox carpet & insulation ...inside Passenger seatbox Rear load barrier / dog guard Rear wheelarch & seat fixings Engine room
  3. Smoother, quieter and better screwed together than the TD5 I chopped in this morning.
  4. No, my last two have been Java Black (not that they ever stayed black for long - more like a very dark brown most of the time ), this time I went for silver - pics to follow after I've uploaded them.
  5. Of course NK is more than free to come on and state the facts from their standpoint.
  6. I think I commented about how much I missed the vents after I test drove the last one a couple of months back (when we actually had some hot sunshine) and also how narrow I found the draft from the eyeball vents. Are those plastic side window draft protectors going to the the thing for the new Defenders now?
  7. I'm curious about these wheelarch protectors too. I take it the accessory position refers to the ignition switch?
  8. Like I say Clarkson gets on my wick.
  9. I said tomorrow or Friday and that means tomorrow or Friday
  10. Nice Don't tell anyone but I say goodbye to my TD5 110 XS and say hello to my new 2007 110 XS tomorrow or Friday
  11. ...or shooting, or forestry, or equestrian, or conservation, or, or or...
  12. Try some Farecla G3 compound - like T Cut but more effective and better in that it's water soluble.
  13. Good post Jim. Some idle thoughts.. Social side aside to my mind the shows are too focused on leisure offroading, expedition and competition market. I'd like to see things that would appeal and draw in the other LR users both professional and amateur and not just the hardcore enthusiasts of the vehicles themselves. For example the fieldsports & outdoorsy types, current military, emergency and utility services, I'm loathe to say agricultural too as Land Rover are not as strong in that sector as was once the case. Ok Land Rover focussed shows were fine for the first few years but for me it's in the main very much the same old, same old now (obviously there are exceptions as far as traders go). Nowadays if I want to obtain something new and standard I can do it from the comfort of my desk either from a supplier or by networking on the various forums etc with just a mouse click or two and the same goes for much of the s/h stuff too. I rarely have the need to physically to sift through piles of stuff as was the case before or in the early days of the internet ...maybe old age has made me lazy ..or just jaded
  14. My advice is to learn by getting your mitts grubby by helping someone experienced. Not sure where you are located but apart from asking on here getting involved with your local LR club is a good place to find people who know a thing or two.
  15. Look in your local yellow pages for auto paint suppliers, once you have located one go in and have a chat to them bearing in mind it's best to stick to one manufacturer's paint system. I used to use a place in St Albans and another in Watford but I've been away from there for quite a few years now so they may have closed down for all I know. I recently had some tricky paint matching to do and used Leonard Brooks in Harlow who did an excellent match to sample. They will also still supply cellulose and do mail order too - good service allround.
  16. Bling factor aside it's probably easier and cheaper to stick to standard ones and be liberal and regular with the lube.
  17. I don't think anyone will encounter any wrath Russ, it was a valid suggestion made in good faith which gave us the opportunity to explain what's what. Nothing wrong with that
  18. If we 'officially' endorsed x, y or z I feel it could have the potential to compromise our independence. There would also be implications if x, y or z should start cocking things up
