  1. I have just fitted one of item no 281675579909 to my 3.9. ..... complete with an alloy shroud and two 11 inch electric fans.... which are thermostatically controlled. .. it does the job perfectly. .. in fact I'm just about to fit a new thermostat as it won't warm up fully. ... its four core not three like most I also have a very accurate temp gauge. .. not an original one. Might be worth asking if he has any more of the rads... the packaging alone was worth what I paid! !
  2. Agreed. However I'm sure that the bonnet is longer than previously. ... as on the non sticky outy grill one the front edge looks carp........
  3. Thanks. ... question two is. Do they even offer a puma without ac??.... which would answer the question another way. ... I've seen puma bonnets on defenders with the standard grill and tbh it looks carp.... as the bonnet is clearly longer. ...
  4. Simple question. ...... ard there two types of bonnet. ... one for ac and one without. .... ?. The ac includes the grill thats spaced forwards and to my eye the bonnet is long too???? Ta
  5. Check the bushes on both axles. ... could be the front hockey stick bushes allowing the axle to rotate as you brake to a halt making the diff angle change. ....you'd be surprised how much they can move even if in good condition! !
  6. You wouldn't get the pipe and breather pipe through the hole in the body. It can only fit inside. ..
  7. That yrm one is the body. Not chassis. ....
  8. Try to find someone who's replacing a dead chassis. ... With a good cross member. .... and then beg them for it!
  9. I don't currently have the fans cowled. They are pinned basically straight to the rad. I could fit the fans to a shield and box in the back of the rad..... didn't really want to do that as I fear that the iil coolers will lose airflow when the fans are not running. ... doug. Hopefully the timing is about right. The timing marks are incorrect so its done by ear... I can't guarantee its right as the exhaust is too loud to hear it det...... so I'm being cautious. .
  10. Been out trialing today. And whilst it was quite warm it wasn't the hottest day on record. .. admittedly when trialing I wouldn't expect anything other than it getting hot. But even at 50+ getting there and back its still warmer than I would like. .. I'm running standard cast manifolds with the cats cut out. .. I have drilled a few holes 28mm in the back sides of the bonnet. ... hopefully that will assist slightly. .. also tweaking the mixture til I get it somewhere near. ...
  11. Having finished the build and got it running properly I have another slight problem. .. I have installed a dedicated water radiator with oil and transmission cooler in front of the rad. The rad has twin 11 inch fans thermostatically switched. .. when burbling around today the fans are on continuously. .. and the temp gauge got up to about 98 at one point. ... what have others done to aid cooling??... Not a fan of bonnet scoop s..... but I suspect that half of the issue is the heat not getting out of the under bonnet area... your ideas would be welcome. ..
  12. I believe he's in Essex somewhere. ... and also offers fitting. .. I fitted one to my new chassis. And have had several compliments!
  13. You'd have to be really quite 'special' to be able to get a thread thats that big in the wrong hole..... you'll soon work it out. ....
  14. I did this exact thing on Friday evening. .... what struck me when removing the box though was that the bolt below this shaft goes right through the casing...... a potential oil leak waiting to happen. .....
  15. Jack it. Put the front axle on stands. Swing the wheels fully left and adjust the rh bolt. And visa versa. ... The bolt should just have a skinny nut to lock it.
  16. The new one was bought as non britpart. ... It looks the same from above. Is it possible that the connections are in a different order to the original? ?
  17. Ign on wires dangling. No reading earth wire continuity to earth tested. Good! White wire earthed. Reads empty/light on. Green/blk wiee earthed. Gauge reads full. trouble is that even with the sensor out of the tank. I can't get an empty or full reading on the gauge. .. however I think the tests have proved its a sensor fault.... Hence why I bought a new one. So unless I have connected that wrong that is faulty too.....??
  18. Under seat tank in my 90 currently the gauge never goes to the E... or the F. even with the sensor out it still won't register each end of the scale. Bought a new one. And this one registers empty and the light is on. But move it slowly up and as soon as the light goes off the gauge drops back down to the off position. .... any ideas.. gauge faulty? .. wiring? . Or both sensors? ?
  19. I drove 200 miles with a 90 roof fixed via battens and straps to the roof rails on my golf estate. ... got some strange looks I can assure you! !
  20. First thing this morning 7 of the 8 were quite dark. And the 8th was fully black. Compression test proved it isn't a mechanical issue. ... decent spark out of the cylinder with another plug. So new plugs and touch wood it seems fine. The thermostat is present and operating correctly. .. I have a capillary temp gauge so I know exactly what it's doing temp wise. I suspect that doing a lot of tinkering in the garage has led to killing at least one of the plugs due to it running in choke mode for too long..... now its hopefully fixed it will get used rather than tinkered with. ... I drove it about ten miles this morning with the diagnostic program plugged in and everything was working fine. ... There's no apparent oil usage. .. so hopefully it will stay that way. ... Thanks for all the input. ... hopefully it'll remain fixed for a while. ... I'll carry a set of plugs. .....
  21. Thanks for the suggestions guys....... everything is connected as it was in the discovery pipe wise etc. I used the discovery fuel lines along the chassis to the defender tank and connected from there. ... This morning I have fitted another set of plugs. Still bpr6es ...... and given it a bit of advance and touch wood after ten miles it hasn't missed a beat..... all very bizarre. .. is it possible that running the engine for short times could kill pugs??.....
  22. Should have added that I've tried another and adjusted the resistance. ..... however I have yet another now so will try that. .... also forgot to say that I fitted a rrc efi pump in the under seat tank
  23. Have recently finished building my truck around the above engine from a late 200 shape discovery. Have had smooth running issues since. The list of bits I've changed is getting excessive. . lambdas stepper motor temp sensor plugs ngk bpr6es leads genuine Cap lucas. rotor arm lucas. coil bosch. amplifier ecu loom checked for continuity different ecu tried. Its decatted but running cat map as suggested by a well known tuner.. symptoms are. slightly uneven idle. Feels slightly ss if its holding back. .. drives ok ish until its warm then it misses and occasionaly backfires at wider throttle setting. .... always use shell super and it drinks it as fast as you can put it in the tank. ... plugs are sooty. And the timing has been checked. ... have also checked the timing marks are actually in the right place. .... any help appreciated as I'm toying with chucking a match on it!!
  24. I did this on my old 300..... I lost count of how many plastic handles I bought sd they kept breaking!
  25. I have exactly the item asked about. Bead breaker bent the first time I used it.... I use a hi lift.... but it sometimes takes a few applications around the rim. ... I bolt mine to two chunks of crossed timber when I want to use it and one leg is longer to park a land rover on to secure it..... I mainly use mine for steel rims and mud tyres. The taller the sidewall the easier it is to remove the tyre. I bought the bar for alloys which works well. And have done a few car tyres but its hard work with low profile ones!! I can now remove and fit four tyres in about an hour. The biggest problem for me is I'm 8 miles from the nearest tyre fitter. And four wheel and tyres won't fit in the pick up. So it means two trips. .. and paying. ... this thing has pd for itself over and over again. .. for the cost its also worth getting a tub of tyre soap and a brush. .... I bought a bag of 50 valves too...... they've nearly gone! !
