I applied jotamastic with a normal spay gun just used a large nozzle. There's no reason you can't use a brush or roller but you may need to use smaller mixes due to pot life. I went for spray to try and get it in all the nooks and crannies. Mike

The disco lt77 has a bell housing around 8" long, the defender lt77 only about 4". Lt77's generally leak via the output seal, however the input seal for the transfer box is next to it they also leak. This is where the gearbox and transfer box meet. As above to work out which oil therefore which seal. If it not there then you need to track it down I'm afraid.

Jotamastic 87 is the epoxy primer I used so that's encouraging. Mike

I quite like the renderings. It fits the hybrid or electric ruling for 2030 or when ever it is. Price is steep but how much is a defender with all the toys, and I know which I'd prefer. Range is a bit of a white lie as it's 50 mile electric or whatever want charging, depending how bigger tank you fit. Interesting though..... Mike

I have a 110 galv chassis that has been in the sea far to often. The galv has flaked off in areas notably just before the back wheels. I clean the whole chassis up with a wire brush and a grinder for the flakey areas. I then coated with 2 coats of epoxy primer and a generic chassis paint. The chassis is around 15 years old I painted it last year. So we'll see how it does. Mike

You can't brake mid corner in an old car, a modern can you can brake and have a party while your at it because the car just sorts it out, so when you reach the limit of physics over it goes. Mike

The number of times I see vintage and race cars loaded with the engine at the back of the trailer, because the caravan club etc say no more than X kg hitch weight. Which if twin axle you can't measure effectively anyway. I've always pulled the car fwd on the trailer till the front of the trailer dips about and inch ish from its resting angle. However as stated I've towed badly loaded trailers, it just means you adjust your speed as nessasary or you stop and adjust the load (I've done both at various times). When I bought my most recent Sankey the spare was bolted to the back for easy, it was horrendous to tow. I stopped move it to the front and strapped it down then it would happily reach the speed limit. Mike

They claim it's a 130 chassis but if it is they've changed the body mounts and suspension to suit the body etc which makes it marginal legally at best. I quite like the idea but the rear bed is errm...... Different and the wheel arch blank I just lazy. Mike

As you will realise from the rest of this thread, for me it's more about what I like and could turn it into than what is sensible and practical. if I wanted sensible I would own a land rover let alone an ibex. Mike

I actually doubt it will make an difference to the number of accident's either way because a numpty will crash a trailer regardless of weight and someone with half a brain is less likely however now they will tow legally with a heavy trailer. Mike

What I ment was I've learned how to tow trailers therefore there's no reason others can't. Equally there's plenty that have learnt but shouldn't be allowed. I guess my overall point is a friend had to tow his caravan with a car rather than his disco 2 because of the 3.5 ton rule and that's definitely not safer. Therefore ditching a daft rule is better than nothing but realistically it should be replaced with either amalgamating into the test or an outright ban on towing without a test (though sensibility that would have to start from new licenses). The move is to skip a step in training people to drive trucks. Personally I have grandfather rights and have always been able to tow large trailers but I had to learn myself. Currently you need to take a test to tow over a certain weight. They are just reverting to the old system. The current system is daft as it allows you to tow with no training upto 3.5ton gross but to exceed this you need a test. Personally I think you need a test to tow anything at all or no test. Under the new/old system I do think you should have to undergo some training to tow as part of learning to drive, but I didn't and I'm still here. Mike

Hi Kyle. Most everything you need to know is covered above. The only complication is you have a 300tdi. I believe it is totally possible to mate the 300tdi to a def lt77, but I've never done it. I think you need the flywheel housing off a 200tdi, given you engine is already in the car this may have already been done. However if it hasn't it might explain why it doesn't have the correct number of bolts in. Given your not far from me pm me for my number if required. Mike

I'm sure I can find an Allen bolt at somepoint. The end plate is bolted which means I'll have to take the end off to remove it but I plan to fit a grease nipple in the plate at some stage. Mike

Rotary bur in a die grinder or drill works well but you need to keep a good hold as they can wander. Mike

At somepoint they started fitting swivel pin housing's that were both LHD and RHD, so it's possible the casting/swivel pin locations got altered at the same time. Mike

Our 110 has a rear ARB fitted from the factory in 83. No front ARB. Mike
