  1. I think I tried 2.5 and it was better, but 4 degrees completely cured it. It may be different for your truck though.
  2. Why didn't you refit the roofrack mounted 'genuine Land Rover shrubbery' from the first picture?
  3. Goodness knows what the language is, and this wasn't the picture I remember (this is a smaller neater unit!) - Land Rover Wood Gas Genny Not the neatest conversion...
  4. Planet Mechanics on youtube... I'm sure I saw a picture of a Series Two(?) not long ago with a wood gas generator attached to the back. IIRC it was in Switzerland. The generator was quite substantial and would have required quite a large attachment to the rear X-member, and apparently all the space in the back was taken up with logs!
  5. Carbs often give problems if not used with petrol because the remains of the old petrol can cause gummy deposits which block jets for example. By running it occasionally on petrol it will keep everything moving and stop the jets from blocking. How often it needs to be done is a matter of opinion and vehicle! I used to run my 2.25 on petrol for just a few miles on the way home from work every week. If you can get it running on petrol (even if badly), it may clear itself after a while.
  6. I agree with that. I have sent a couple of donations when money was 'requested', and a couple when I have sold stuff. I am happy with the way it works.
  7. I fitted a Lucas sports coil, but any high-output type should be fine.
  8. With the maplin kit, you can fit a high-performance coil to help things as well.
  9. Alternatively, find a bottom pulley off a 6-cylinder and water pump/alternator pulleys off a 2.25 then you can fit the narrower fan belts which are much more common and only a couple of quid each (and easier to fit).
  10. Personally I would only ever buy from Exmoor Trim unless money was very tight (then I'd rather put the hard top on, instead of buying a canvas from ***docks!). The fit and quality is excellent. The cheaper canvas shrinks/expands more, so the fit changes depending on the weather. The stuff Exmoor now use has, I believe, only a few percent shrinkage. The one I had previously had a two-inch gap at the back above the tailgate at first!
  11. The usual question applies... If it is so easy to fit, cheaper than turbos/superchargers, and is 'proven', then why hasn't it been fitted by manufacturers?
  12. I have loads of SAE140 in the garage. It doesn't say in your profile where you are, but if you are anywhere near me you are welcome to get some - but bring your own tub!
  13. My S1 isn't getting simpler (could it?). I have just fitted megajolt and a JAW wideband air/fuel ratio display!
  14. No, but if someone lives close by, then I would probably PM them and go to show them how to fix/solve/create a problem! I just think that it makes the whole place a lot more friendly.
  15. I have a Series One, but I don't see why I should pay to enter & pay to camp when I can't use the vehicle. Also, if I can't leave when I want to and can't pop out during the day then I would rather stay at home. This is aside from having to get the vehicle on display from 9am. I don't like rushed mornings when on holiday! The batteries and inverter are in the S1, so I doubt you could get a lead across to the tent. That's my bit of a rant anyway!
  16. I would agree that it is a 25 rather than 45 because the 45 didn't have the screw adjustment knob on the side as far as I know.
  17. Yesterday must have been the day for it all! Firtly I got up an hour late because she had forgotten to put the alarm on (it was my fault apparently...). Secondly I spent 25 minutes looking for my keys that I was convinced were in my motorbike waterproof suit pocket. Found them in that pocket - reason being I had picked up her waterproofs thinking they were mine. Thirdly clipped the back of an old Fiesta when the silly woman changed her mind about going round some parked cars and did an emergency stop! One small dent and a few scratches, but no real damage - I did manage to break her rear light lens so it will cost her more than me! When I said to her that I wasn't bothered about claiming on insurance, the unexpected reply was "I/m not bothered either, my car's a heap of junk"! Fourthly, at lunchtime spentages in a queue at Boots before realising I had left my wallet in the office, so had to put stuff back on the shelf and walk out! BTW Graham, is that your P4? Dad has a P4 100 as well as his 2A. They have a 1970 Morris Minor traveller as the modern car! I live in Clifton - you've probably seen my S1 around but it's in semi-retirement now that I have the motorbike for commuting. It seems there's a few of us around north Manchester - how about a pub meet at some point?
  18. Quotes vary so much that the only way to do it is spend a morning/day ringing round them all. Write down the prices/cover then ring a few with the lowest quotes and see if they will knock a bit more off. Repeat this until you get the best price!
  19. What brand of oil is it? My 2.25 used to do that if I used cheap oil from Morrisons (supermarket), but not on a branded type.
  20. There are two old empty gas bottle at work here, and my garage is metal, so no worries about setting it alight... How do I go about starting to chop the bottle. I don't want any explosions, so do I simply unscrew(?) the valve off the top and let some fresh air circulate? I quite fancy the idea of 'free' workshop heating, but how long does it take to get going? I could easily stick a chimney through the roof!
  21. Someone is... http://otly.mysite.orange.co.uk/Megasquirt/page1.html Having got megajolt on my 2.5, megasquirt seems like another good step one day!
  22. There is plent of more detailed info on the autosportlabs forum, but basically I'd go with the MAP option for the reasons above!
  23. Right, finally got hold of a better air filter, but need ideas on position. Space is limited to say the least, so it has to go in the front left corner by the rad. I may be able to mount it horizontally with a very short hose onto the carb like this (but lower and the hose would be the intake but pointing downwards obviously!) Or the other (preferred) option is to mount it upright. This would be easier and neater but the intake would be at the bottom... Obviously the wading depth couldn't be higher than the bottom of the intake, and the other problem I foresee is the air flow past the opening - would it have a detrimental effect on the intake having air rushing past when driving? What about putting a short piece of pipe from the bottom facing backwards along the chassis rail/up to the footwell area?
  24. I would either get a Maplins ign amp kit for a tenner which will put less current through the points (then you could put a hig-power coil on as well), or fit a megajolt system.
