  1. I've got one on my "groupie" winch - I can take a pile of photos at the weekend if you like?
  2. Will - Photoshop it, it'll be quicker (and you could tidy up the welds first)
  3. I'm torn between a qualification I need to do my job, and a good holiday! I'm definately going to go away on holiday, it's just a question of where and when. I'd intended to do a weekend's laning, then head on to Barcelona, so I may just pole up on the Saturday sometime and see where you all are. I won't know where the course will be until a couple of weeks before though, so bye-bye cheap ferry deals! I've not been home to check on the angle gauge yet - I'll let you know.
  4. Considering the "X-bludgeoner" above, isn't the centre tube of a bush slightly longer than the outer tube, so that all the force of battering the bush out is being passed through the rubber part of the bush? It seems more elegant to me to add a groove into the tool so the outer edge bears directly on the larger tube of the bush. If that makes sense. In fact, on re-reading, it doesn't. I'd draw a picture if I had the time.
  5. Last time I went away, I was told in no uncertain terms that I should rearrange my holiday, since I'd asked for the training course. If I miss the course, I can head into the exam unprepared or wait another six months... I'm still wondering whether I can drive the length of Europe in a night and a day...
  6. Thanks Jez - I was nearly going to spend my hard-earned then!
  7. The panhard rod makes sense too - the axle moves slightly right, which is the same as steering left. This pushes the axle left, which is the same as steering right... I had this problem and tried dogging the nuts up as tight as I could. This reduced the problem to a less alarming level but I may come back from Sodbury with some more scrap to work on it a little further.
  8. No I couldn't - my coolant would be slowly pouring into their car park! I'll get them to post one out to me. If the engine had a poor earth, wouldn't I have problems starting?
  9. Well, the pure bump travel, forces and rates will be the same, but the roll damping will be as above. I was discussing this with SimonR last week (taken to extremes!), considering putting the damper onto the A-frame. Apparently Paul Wightman had tried something similar and it was undriveable because the wheels were all over the place. It depends what you want it to do but for a given 'roll' damping level, it'll be over damped for pure 'bounce' IYSWIM.
  10. My memory is coming back - there are different threads and options for the 300Tdi sender - some are a parallel thread and some are a taper thread, so be careful out there! I can't really get any more water above the engine unless I cut a hole in the bonnet!
  11. Disaster - looks like I'll be on a training course in Glasgow on 10th, so that gives 24 hours to drive north to south across half of Europe in a diesel LandRover. I'm keeping my eyes & ears open for relocating the course (to Paris? More likely to London) but it's not looking good for me
  12. I've found mileage in playing a blowtorch over the bush to get the rubber out in the past (do this outdoors) and then hacksaw and chisel as above. Just bludgeoning it out with loads of pressure seems a bit Brunellian to me...
  13. Ooh - good point, thanks. An electrical problem kinda adds up because the gauge was sometimes flicking up to 88degrees, then back down - I assumed that was water wetting the sensor intermittently when the level was low. In fact, I'll try an earth first. Thanks!
  14. You're feeding these rumours, aren't you?
  15. I did buy the correct sender, and it worked like a dream when it was new. I'll run a new wire between the gauge and sender at the weekend, see if that makes a difference. Otherwise it's a new sender I think - can anyone remember the thread that 'nearly' fits - M10x1.0?
  16. I offered to help an abrasive family in a Vauxhall Chavalier who'd got stuck at a 4x4 playday event we were running - after refusing the 'voluntary donation to charity' on the gate and driving around the marshals they headed straight towards the car park (rather than round by the roadway, into a puddle and promptly got stuck. The Cav wasn't as heavy as anything else in this thread, but we hooked up the KERR, suggested an enhanced donation to said charity and were refused again. What is it they say about offroading - "low 2nd and floor it"?
  17. Don't worry about it Al. They seem to let Mark90 and me on here so I shouldn't think you'll have any pro
  18. For some interim closure on this (I know you're all losing sleep over my phantom coolant problems) I took the car for a run up the motorway last night. The gauge points here: 50 degrees? 60 degrees? 70 degrees? We could start a survey. but using TroddenMasses' thermocouple and Fluke meter, the coolant in the header tank was at 80 degrees C, so I'm of the opinion that there's not too much of a problem really. I'll pull the head over Christmas anyway, but I'm increasingly leaning towards an instrumentation problem... just like last time!
  19. ORRP is far too visible from across the office. As most here know, I'm all for subtlety(!) so stay as is please. Is it time for annual donations again?
  20. Congrats indeed to all - now the hard work begins I believe!
  21. As Ciderman said, give Pete a ring. He's in Bristol but he'll post stuff and the customer service is second to none. I bought a speedo cable and it broke a week later. I'd may have installed it badly (did it in the dark, I probably left a tight curve in there somewhere) but when I went back to buy another, he remembered I'd bought one recently and wouldn't let me pay. Just one example of five years of outstanding service for me. My parents live 10 miles from DLS/Paddock and I'm driving past Craddocks on the way home to do my cylinder head gasket at Christmas, but I still get the parts from Pete.
  22. Engine manufacturers spend an awful lot of time on gas flowing heads. You'd need to find a 4cyl engine with the same bore and bore spacing, and then hope you're not bolting through any water jackets to match the Rover bolt pattern, or rework the block to take the head's bolts. Then you need to match the block coolant passages to the head coolant passages (and find a suitable head gasket). Non-starter per ££ I suspect, but as Chris says, if you've got the time and money...
  23. Even less helpful, V8Bertha's R380 weighs a few grams less than standard...
  24. Well... I guessed the thick yellow line from the green one , but the thin lines are real data.
  25. Hmm. I am also with the NFU but don't really want to rattle their cage. For £25 for a new screen it might be worth it though. What's the chance of getting a heated unit out of them, do you think?
