  1. I picked up front and rear diff guards second hand on Tuesday, the front will replace the NVH damper and use those bolts but I will check them in the back when they are out. This thread clears the water by muddying it up further lol
  2. Yes, series used EP90 everywhere except the engine.
  3. Turns out its the front prop of all things Very surprised as it was off not so long ago and greased both props before we set off for the uk when it was up on the lift. You can see a chunk missing from the bearing cap here! At least I have a spare transferbox to rebuild at my leisure now though
  4. Jesus wept, you are so lucky to be alive! Get well soon mate
  5. £811 http://www.mattsavage.co.uk/acatalog/Heavy-Duty-Onboard-Kit-10005.html You can buy two of these !
  6. Has to be front if it's prop, back was off less than a month ago and it was fine. It came on quite quickly, been doing lots of motorway these weeks and last week it was fine upto 80mph, then Tuesday morning post the extended duration on an incline and it started playing up 25 mile into my journey. Was rather late when I got back Tuesday and picked up a spare van From the yard early Wednesday morning so no time to do more than drain the txb and see how little came out! Will investigate further Saturday Morning, maybe I could swing by the yard tomorrow night an pop the front prop off an go for a run. Picked up the supposedly good used box tonight, I'm hopeful but not sure why the seller had the front output flange nut undone ? Further investigation to follow.
  7. Putting this here as it affects everything with an LT230. I am pretty sure I have a stuffed transferbox, discussion with buddy Paul and he thinks otherwise. Symptoms, started as dull whirring at 70mph and only on acceleration, ie, motorway hills, slowed to 60 and gone, 20miles further and whirring is now moderate vibration at 60 but still only on acceleration, no ½" drive at work so no chance to check oils, took back roads home for slow speed and moderate turned to harsh vibration at 50mph slowing to 40 eased it a bit but I was down to 30/35 for last miles. Only happens on acceleration, silent on overrun and rumbly on cruise. UJs are tight and greased less than 1000kms ago. Hand brake rebuilt less than 1000kms ago. Only a pint and a bit oil came out of transferbox when drained. Both diffs full of oil, LT77 full of oil. Anyone got further suggestions?
  8. This looks worth a punt? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/100ft-10mm-Synthetic-Winch-Rope-Hawse-Hook-Dyneema-SK75-self-recovery-4x4-/261717837698?hash=item3cef994782:g:bI4AAOSwwTlUorVz
  9. Well I am weighing up the cost of new synthetic rope, but for the 5 times in two years I've used it, it is hard to justify the extra outlay, but then again, having seen some of the kinked and flattened steel cables being reeled out on many occassions I can see why from a safety POV. Off to search youtube as I am sure there was a video on the pro's and cons of both.
  10. I was going to go to Mannington today after laning but found other chores to do, but I was just reading some of the blurb on the TV4x4 site http://www.tv4x4.co.uk/ and noticed they are banning steel winching cables and recovery chains from August. Is this happening on other clubs nationally too or are they setting a precidence for others to follow?
  11. From a Disco owners POV. Fit the 1.2 TXB get a recon exchange 1.2 from ashcroft rather than the lotto boxes off egay and enjoy trouble free motoring. My reasoning being, a 1.2 TXB & 235/70 tyres are std for 200Tdi/300Tdi and give ample road performance, and as you also state that taller tyres mean you no longer fit in your car park. My Discovery runs 235/85 16 tyres with it's 1.2 TXB, I find it a ball ache round town, ball ache on country roads and I find down shifting on motorway hills very necessary and parking is always problematic when going in to the city.
  12. Really like that! Wider, Cummins lump, P38 axles and air suspension, just my cup of Tetley
  13. So it looks like ABS is taken care of, what about the SRS airbag system?
  14. Never heard of this mod? Over heating says airlock, head gasket, blocked radiator (internally or externally).
  15. Can anyone tell me of any factual legislation that could prevent the removal of ABS & SRS from a vehicle. Lots of hear say on t'internet, nobody can ever link a relevant paragraph or page to substantiate though.
  16. Oh yes, for sure as home mechanics we need to smart up about cross referencing parts from across all makes/models, remembering who owned JLR at which ever point as an idea of where to hunt cheapest branded electronic items, not just pot luck with intermotor chicarp. Oil seals and bearings are also famously cheap and nasty, use a bearing factor to help in cross referencing bearing to get highest quality and the same with seals, finding the correct part numbers helps them get you the right parts at best quality/price comparison.
  17. I used to do quite well with my 9 inch grinder, oxy acetylene is awesome, oxy propane is probably more affordable unless you can get a loan of a set of bottles? Or if you have a compressor then splash out on a plasma cutter
  18. True, you should go shopping for Audi genuine parts! The trouble is that everyone is on a budget, that often means tight! Tight budget means cheap parts, cheap parts mean problems further on, and it's often the cheapskate owners who whine about the cheap parts they bought. Having said that, sometimes, you just cannot justify the cost of genuine parts.
  19. What about electric motor through the auto box?
  20. Oooh look at that, gotta book me a camping spot probably bring the big toolbox too
  21. What time you passing corhampton Mike? It'll be nice to tag along and help too if needed
  22. Welcome to the best technical Land Rover forum on the web
  23. Anyone going from Havant, Portsmouth tomorrow? Fancy meeting up on the way?
  24. https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.mm-4x4.com/freelander-2-inch-suspension-lift---includes-camber-correction-pins-1673-p.asp&ved=0ahUKEwi80P2n0rbLAhUFlg4KHV6bCEwQFgggMAE&usg=AFQjCNHA-GORjPV8viR3-9Gu-4qGk5u-7g&sig2=tB6wmwl5irjGL3COin7OJQ No idea if it's any good but they do make them.
