  1. skauldy, how did the Watts linkage mounts go?
  2. the legal wording for hire & reward in the uk allows for reasonable out of pocket expenses. For example if i was to help a friend, said friend is allowed to pay for my fuel consumed, my lunch, contribute to wear and tear, pay for tolls, etc. Basically you can take money for any costs that otherwise would not be present. How this works in a commercial setting is a mystery, some say you can run tacho exempt if moving your own items and not charging the customer for the transport... how true this is I dont know
  3. nice work brownie, will keep this pinned for my dads S2a when it gets some love lol
  4. watching with interest as I want to make the series I rebuilt when I was 15 more usable for the old man!
  5. this is more like the debate i was looking for sounds like it might be possible to make an 'ECU' to translate normal senders to D2 language when the pwm outputs are known any thoughts on taking the throttle pot/cruise control setting to operate a electric linear actuator on the fuel pump?
  6. My Disco doesnt flash M&S with no MAF plugged in, id of thought it would be Engine Management Light if anything? Everything tbh... its just not a good 4x4 diesel... can see it being much more suited to a Rover Saloon. Admittedly though for the engine i most despise its been the most reliable landy ive had... but when the others were 3.5v8 (carb and EFI), 200tdi running stupid boost, and a BMW engined P38 i spose its not hard....
  7. Td5 engine isnt for me, hate it with a passion. Love the autobox and the advantages of electronic control, compushift is too expensive though. My autobox isnt recieving a MAF reading so it musnt need that as it works normally. So what inputs do the TCU and BCU need as a minimum? TPS, Crank position sensor, temp sensor, oil pressure sensor are the main ones i can think of...
  8. Solid axle simulation... on a solid axle truck....new on me
  9. Im looking into how to get a 4BT in the old Disco2 yea, Fitting a crank sensor with D2 Temp sender and Oil pressure switch isnt an issue. Just want to keep the electrics working for the autobox and body etc
  10. Hello folks, Just a thought of mine but would it be possible to make a chip/Micro-controller to replace the engine ECU that allows an older engine to be installed in a Disco 2 Td5 but still retain all the features that makes the D2 so lovely What I am proposing is a plug in chip to replace the engine ECU with the following features: Can read a crank sensor on the new engine. Can read the oil pressure switch. Can read the temperature sensor. Puts out a 12v feed for the stop solenoid. Controls an electric actuator on the fuel pump for throttle control (no changes to interior or pedal box and retains cruise control function). Basically meaning the all the D2 ECUs are happy and the car drives like a normal D2 with fully functioning gauges etc but has a Veggie oil friendly simple engine under the hood and lets the auto work correctly. So id like to open up a discussion on this idea... what does the engine ecu need to tell the rest of the car? Is this feasible technically? Over to you
  11. interested to see how you get on
  12. A pair is cheap enough at Paddocks, best doing them both and the ride improvement will be noticeable. A well maintained air suspension system is just as reliable as coils with the benefits of self levelling and extra comfort
  13. I like your idea FridgeFreezer... would Rasberry PI work too? (I know nothing about computers but ive seen Rasberry PI used to serve cocktails ) Mechanical control isnt too hard... the VW boys manage it they use a cable to pull the vanes closed (more boost) with throttle then a boost actuator (like a 200tdi one) to open the vanes (less boost) so the turbo doesnt over boost... advantage of this method is that the vanes are allways moving so they dont coke up and when on a cruise with little power requirement there is little restriction on the engine (compared to a simple boost can control method)
  14. Nice example, looks like LT230 behind a NV405? whats the engine and spec of that? any linkys?
  15. 12v 6BT 5.9l 160hp VE Pump, 3200rpm Governer Spring, +40hp Fuel pin, +40hp Injectors, HX35 boosting 40+ Psi (its safe threshhold is 35psi and i rarely need to push it past that tbh as after 35psi it superheats the air... i definatly need a charge cooler on her). So i should be good for 200-250hp and 500lb/ft a 6BT Pump with a +40hp fuel pin and a 4500rpm spring from a TDi will be ideal for the OM606 lump... nice n revvy... get some well matched injectors and maybe a HX35 (or the 6.7 24v Cummins VNT??) and there will be some power on tap!
  16. bloody heck... HX35 is whats on my Cummins... im getting 45psi out of it!
  17. interesting reading gents! 14mm VE pump will support 650hp in a 12v 5.9 cummins so it should be plenty for a merc lump! the one youve got will be a 12mm pump and somewhere between 130-180hp rating (on the 6BT) would be interesting so see this in standard tune running a 606 with a set of injectors and a meaty VNT/VGT! couple of pointers... the pump will be governed at 2500rpm therefore you need a spring kit in the pump to bring the revs up. if you want it to rev up to similar speeds that a TDi does then a cheap fix would be to put TDi springs in the Cummins pump. also id recommend a fuel pin to anybody running a VE pump, it drops the on-boost fuelling on nicely and allows more fueling to be reached, complimenting a set of injectors nicely!
  18. i was going to use bulbs without the resistors and fit the correct flasher relay to suit then i could use the strobe light kit to make them strobe. which LED bulbs fit directly into the disco indicators and side repeaters?
  19. Hey Gents (and ladies) I want to replace my main indicator bulbs and side repeater bulbs with LED replacements, was wondering if anybody knew which ones to use whilst keeping the same brightness. Also a suggestion for the correct flasher unit would be welcome. Reason for this is i want to fit the strobe flasher unit to make the indicators work as strobe lights.
  20. interesting ideas gents! the 37s are Cooper STTs so grippy enough... i just want more feel to scrub off speed gently without slamming the pedal down lol
  21. with Ashs conversion? plenty but ill leave him to reveal all lol
  22. Hello Gents (and any ladys lurking here) I have a 200+hp 1987 LR90 with a 500kg Cummins 6BT engine and 37" tyres... this combination has made the standard brakes (Td5 90 axles) next to useless (they will lock up but theres nothing much inbetween nothing and locked) i have just fitted a new lucas servo from a 110 and has helped slightly but now need more improvement just for slowing down in a more gradual and controlled manner i was looking at these: http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-RA1357 http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-RA1359 any other suggestions before i get fed up and fit air brakes? haha
  23. haha if you have the plates and the notes you made Ash we could go for a pint and cad it up while were there
