  1. Welcome Is it an electronically controlled EDC engine? If an auto, I guess it probably will be. It just means there are lots of other things that might be wrong!
  2. post a picture of the engine bay but I should think you will have a NAS if it is a "4.0 litre SE7" as that is a NAS designation, the models elsewhere were called 3.9's.
  3. I had standard steel wheel nuts on mine to hold the Disco steel spare out from the wiper, and there was enough thread left for about half the outer nuts, plenty for a spare
  4. If fitting the wheels reversed, the best thing to do is to put three nuts on the carrier reversed i.e. with the taper facing out towards the wheel, this then fits into the chamfer in the wheel and stops any movement
  5. airflow meter is one possibility, the other one is check the two little inline filters that feed the EGR breather and the turbo modulator, if these block up you can suffer major loss of power!
  6. 4) Speaking as somebody who ships stuff in for a living, it will be fine if it is packed properly. If it is packed by a fool trying to get a bonus from the amount of parcel tape saved at the end of the week, it will probably get smashed. It is a perennial problem with getting stuff shipped overseas! (Not from either of the companies concerned I hasten to add - just a general comment on most suppliers!) 5) I would say yes as a mild tweak on the pump can send the EGT through the roof under certain conditions. See the thread in the tech archive for the fitting.
  7. Taper side in, change them immediately or risk losing a wheel!!!
  8. Engine oil leaking from the seal on the back of the crankshaft. It is an engine or gearbox out job to fix it so if it isn't too bad I would put up with it till it gets a lot worse
  9. Gravel driveways cover a multitude of sins Keeps the grass down too
  10. Oi watch it sunshine nothing wrong with a set of alloys
  11. I have just finished repainting an old set of 8 spokes in silver aluminium paint and have painted the beads, I also did it last time and they never lost any pressure so I would say yes it is a good idea as it will reduce corrosion.
  12. If it is not leaking clutch fluid I would say that the master cylinder has an internal leak so is not holding pressure, therefore it is alright for a short time but if sitting with the clutch depressed, you will gradually lose pressure and then it will be no use till everything has sorted itself out. A new set of master cyl seals might fix it.
  13. Probably the EGR valve jamming open, it opens on the overrun and should close as soon as the throttle is depressed but if it doesn't you get the symptoms described. Blanking the EGR off is described in several places on the LR4x4 forums if you have a search around.
  14. [cough] bit pricey! Glad you got it sorted though
  15. Post a pic of the stereo so we can have a look. The later VDO stereos mostly come out with an allen key, the C42 is a 2.5mm allen key which you stick in through a hole in each side of the radio and loosen the clamps then it just slides out.
  16. I think what Pimp said more or less but then if you are facing a ten grand bill I would try flushing everything through with diesel and running it - whatever happens later can't be more expensive than changing everything! The ofishul policy is to change everything other than the radio to maintain warranty cover but clearly there are cheaper options and stuff the warranty!
  17. Are there any insurance implications for a home-made arrangement like that? It's a damn good idea but I just wonder what would happen if there was an accident while towing?
  18. What you want is one of these http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=13421 can be a PITA to fit (as described!) but the quality of the product is excellent and I think it is the best all round solution to "I want a NATO and a ball hitch without having a drop plate on all the time" - it tows the Sankey at the right height, tows my twin axle Ifor Williams at the right height, and comes off in 15 seconds for maximum clearance off road.
  19. Change the injector harness which requires a small socket (8mm I think though it might be 10mm) to take off the rocker cover and a new harness for about £40 plus maybe an hour or so of your time. The subject is covered elsewhere on the forums I think but you need to clean out the multiplug that the injector harness goes into and then the red plug at the ECU end if there is oil there, I use switch cleaner others use brake cleaner etc. I don't think there is a non genuine option, never seen one anyway.
  20. this might be interesting covers all the tough phones http://www.mphone.co.uk/rugged_tough_phone.html
  21. Google is your friend If you look at the top return here http://www.strickequipment.com/catalog/gol...d%20filters.htm there appears to be a 40 micron stainless steel strainer which might be a good place to start as I assume it will be washable and reusable.
  22. OK that's useful then, ta, though other reviews said it was not 100% so maybe it depends on the individual one. When I have £200 burning a hole in my pocket I might look at one I wish they would be more specific - the blurb says "polyphonic" which I assume to be a sort of advanced version of the diddly widdly stupid Nokia tune
  23. I used to have a hawse on my old 8274 and had no problems at all. As already said, rollers are often more trouble than they are worth!
  24. I have been looking at the JCB one and also the Sonim XP1 which is the same thing without the Lego colour scheme (Sonim make the phone for Messrs Bamford). The big irritant with me and the reason I still have my old Nokia 6230 is that despite promising to be rugged they all fall down at the first hurdle which is proper waterproofing, which I expect to mean waterproof not shower resistant - being able to drive a truck over it is not much use if it goes pop when you drop it in a puddle (quite likely for anybody driving off road). The reason for this is probably as said above but as I have a RIB, a rugged phone that is not waterproof is F A use to me as I will still have to keep it in an Aquapac as I do at the moment and on the boat it forms part of the safety gear in the event of a breakdown. Of the ones available, I like the JCB but I need to have the Chicken Song as my ringtone therefore it also falls down on that but the lack of waterproofing is the biggest issue for me. Some of them seem to be waterproof and others not, judging by the reviews. My current Nokia has been drowned in salt water (yes I forgot the Aquapac that time...) and after being rinsed under a cold tap to get the salt out, and 48 hours on top of the hot water tank with the battery out, it is still going strong so that seems quite rugged to me
  25. Turn the ignition off and wait for a relay "click" after about 15 sec then no problems at all.
