  1. I thought it might be to be honest Mav but the camera is burgered on my phone and I didn't have my iPad to hand. Reckoned I might be lucky enough that it was a common trait. Should have known better.. I will try and get a pic up today.
  2. I bought a metal instrument cowl from Raptor. I'm having a little difficulty getting it to fit properly. Do I need to attach the cowl before attaching the metal base plate? The base plate seems to be fouling the ignition switch barrel for some reason.
  3. Anyone fitted one of these? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVER-DEFENDER-BONNET-RELEASE-CABLE-CONVERSION-/280612638326
  4. I see what you fellas mean about the stalk now. He was talking about using an old one... Doi.....
  5. I think the old park switch in theory would work. I think the difference between tdi and td5 lies in the gear more than the park switch. However I would buy a new one. They aren't expensive, and who knows, the old one might work for a month then pack in as well..
  6. Looks like you had a great trip. We really are spoiled up here for beautiful places to wild camp. I've got a couple of spots that I drive then hike to that only I know about. Pretty serene at 1 in the morning when there's not a breath of wind looking up at a clear sky without any light pollution On the other hand, at that same place the snow/wind will kill you during the winter...
  7. I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean, but the double cab pickup (dcpu) is an actual model.
  8. Yes. Yes it is... The difference in rolling radius between new and old tyres can't be good for anything.
  9. I stand with the comments that there will be a large enough safety margin that you will be fine. However I would definitely have it given a professional once over. After it's been given a green bill of health I would use it with confidence.
  10. Check above my avatar. I've been needing to use the force for quite some time.....
  11. Great idea. I will probably have a fleece and maybe a cap if you go ahead with them..
  12. Ok. I am bowing to the general consensus that crimping is best. I will search eBay for a hydraulic crimper.
  13. Yes I saw that thread Mav. The thing is I can't afford a GOOD set of hydraulic crimping tools. The reviews of the £30-£60 sets available on eBay have been mixed to say the least... If I could afford the luxury of a set Cembre's then I would probably crimp them. I know that the crimp versus solder debate will run ad nauseum but unless the cable/connector is in an area where it's being bent/moved all the time, I don't see a thing wrong with soldering.
  14. As title. Just wondered if there is a recommended type/brand of solder for the purpose of making up battery/jumper cables etc?
  15. It makes sense Lewis because otherwise there would be nothing covering that hole other than the flimsy gaiter..
  16. Just wondered if anyone with td5 has one? http://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php/95990/0/insulation_pad_gear_lever_def Britcar lists one up to 06 which would suggest use in td5, yet on Allbrit it says only V8 or 4-cylinder??
  17. I've been reading up on this a little. It seems that if your a tall fella this conversion is not for you. Apparently if your over 6' your knees are always squashed up against the dash as its a lot closer to you than the old style dash. Though maybe this only applies if you have a truck cab?? If your considering this it will probably be prudent to get along your dealer and sit in one..
  18. Oh now that's interesting. That circumvents some otherwise essential electrickery... Any pics of the finished conversion?
  19. Must be the kick panels that makes the difference Seriously though, I thought you had said before you had td5 soundproofing panels. Must be thinking of someone else..
  20. But even then, if you fit the complete dash your then left with the problem of getting the gauges to work....
  21. I reckon the people that notice the "night and day" difference as you put it, mustn't have had much in the way of soundproofing to begin with. For example the 2-piece factory td5 soundproofing that covers footwells and panel behind fusebox. They probably had bare bulkhead/floor panels etc..
  22. Yes but Mike it says Big Dog so that clearly makes it special.......
