  1. Nige - same as everyone says - I havnt been to Sweden for 40 years but spent New Year in Oslo 2 years ago, and its the only New Year I remember being fairly sober. In a bar/pub/café a bottle of wine was about 50 quid! It will be much cheaper to eat in a camper but stock up before if you like a drink. The people are the nicest you could ever meet. Pretty much everybody we met speaks better English than the people I work with in the Midlands!! I want to go back. Barry
  2. For long motorway journeys and if its still under warranty the TDCI is OK ish. But out of warranty you need to look at the auction results. The motor trade has no scruples. The TDCI almost always fails to meet the CAP values whereas the TD5 usually exceed them. Barry
  3. IMHO Ali sheet or Stokbord rather than ply. Barry
  4. I smashed my nearside mirror on a sticky out branch in a hedge on a narrow Cornish Road, and bought a Mudstuff twin view type mirror which lets you also see a wide angle view/blind spot, as well as the standard view. Really good but they are a bit bigger than the standard size replacement.
  5. I have a Milwaukee set of drill and impact driver. poodles plums. Barry
  6. I bought one last year. Great kit with, IIRC, comes with a 3 year guarantee. You know when you drop a bolt or nut and you cannot quite see it, and you are worried in case it dropped into or against something critical?? Well, this is the jobby ---- armed with an Aldi or Lidl telescopic magnet you can fish away to your hearts content. Triffic Barry
  7. Get well soon Mike. Cheers Barry
  8. Thanks very much everyone. Ordered a kit today by phone. The guy was extremely helpful, and gave me some tips on fitting. Will have to get my nephew to fit it as my leg is still crook. Barry
  9. Due to an injury stopping me driving, my TD5 has only started once a week when Lady S gives it a run for me. Last week when I tried starting her I just got a click when I turned the key. Then, second attempt ,she fired up. Tonight I charged up the battery just to be sure as my alarm had gone off in the middle of the night, ( I think because of some strong winds) and when I tried to start her I had a click 6 times when I tried the key before she fired up on the 7th attempt. After she fires up, she will start every time. Solenoid?? Any help gratefully received Thanks Barry
  10. Richard - have a look at Stokbord sheets. They are waterproof and I think come in 6mm/9mm/12mm thick x 8ft x 4ft sheets ( or the metric equivalent). These are what I intend to use. cheers Barry
  11. Welcome to the forum. I never asked a question on here that somebody didn't know the answer. Barry
  12. Toby Good news you have it back - really tidy TD5s are not plentiful. As well as alarm/immobiliser/tracker think about some visual deterent such as Disklok and or SafeT pedal lock. Barry
  13. Very sorry to hear this. Hope you get it back and in the meantime try to stop your insurers just writing it off before there is a chance for it to be found. I realise you only had it a few days but did it have any anti theft protection? Barry
  14. There is possibly another route to take which is called issuing a Statutary Demand although its 20 years or so since I last did this so possibly things have changed. You used to get the form for a minimal cost from Oyez Legal Stationers, and register it at the court. Effectively IIRC, once issued, it puts you in front of any other creditor including their bank, taxman or someone with a lien on the business. The last time I used this the company involved had to settle our £10K bill before they could file for administration/insolvency. Once isuued you then have the legal right to issue a winding up petition with you as the prime preferred creditor. You need to balance this with any assets they show in the business. The problem is, these sort of scrotes are always late filing accounts, the business assets are worth three fifths of beggar all, or they cease trading and register another company. I hope you do get some satisfaction and get your money back. From memory I think you also have a right to complain in writing to Companies House who have the power to ban someone from being a Director, although in the case of this man and his father this should have happened years ago. Best of luck Barry
  15. I stupidly wrecked one of my fobs to my 2000 TD5 which has an aftermarket Clifford alarm/immobiliser.. My local-ish alarm fitters reprogrammed a blank Clifford fob for me. Some clever devil on here may know the secret!!!! Barry
  16. I believe the NFU recorded an 8% increase since 2014. To be honest I have to park mine on the front drive. It has an immobiliser, alarm, and I always fit my Disklok, and SafeT pedal cover. The next thing would be a tracker. I realised that I was getting obsessive when I went on to a holiday cottage in Cornwall and had to leave it parked 50 metres away, and kept checking it was still there. You know, its started to take away the fun in owning one when you get too anal about it. I realised that if it went, I would be seriously piddled off, but I could get another one or change to a Disco. On the other hand, if my spaniel gundog was nicked, which happened twice to one of my mates, I would be inconsolable because she is irreplaceable. I am not complacent but now I try to take the wider view. Barry
  17. Completely agree Nige. When you really need them the NHS staff are superb. They recently fixed my knee after I fell and snapped the ligament and ripped the quad muscle. The surgeons and all the nursing staff and aftercare physio staff have been brilliant. Hope you heal up soon. PS We use KK Sumo anti slash gloves which are made with Kevlar. If you want a pair PM me your address and I will post you a pair to trial. Barry
  18. I am thinking of buying a lightweight caravan later this year and I don't know if my rear connector on my TD5 90 works, as in 4 years I have never had cause to use it. Its the single socket type. Short of borrowing a trailer/ rear light set, can anyone give me an idiots guide to testing it, prior to dragging a caravan back home. I have a Maplin cheapy multi-tester and an old type light bulb/probes type continuity tester if these help. As always thanks in advance. Barry
  19. It does look OK for light work. What always amazes me is how DIY kit can be sold with next to no guarding. At work I have an industrial rolling mill and flattener/shears and I have to guard them to the nth degree. It doesn't say what the max thickness it will take, but as a very very rough guide, if its 1.00mm mild steel, then perhaps 2.00mm Ali and 0.5mm stainless? Barry
  20. I meant to say, Keep your welding rods in the airing cupboard or boiler room until you are ready to use them.
  21. As they are only a few quid to replace, use the Earth Clamp as sacrificial. Clamp it as close as possible to the part you want to weld and strike the welding rod along it several times, to get the end white hot. This makes it much easier to strike the intended weld. A reactive welding helmet makes life so much easier. An inverter arc welder makes life even easier. After welding, grind off, re-weld if necessary, and then grind off and if it is welded solid but looks complete pants maybe spread some filler to make it cosmetically more acceptable for the test station. Practice makes perfectish. Barry
  22. Hope your mate gets it back Mav. Just North of us today in Telford a 4 man gang of Landy thieves was sentenced by the court. The ringleader got 2 years jail ( out in less than 12 months ) and the others got suspended sentences. ( Look on Shropshire Star website ). Not much deterrent for scum!! Barry
  23. Looks fantastic Robosol. Thanks for sharing and welcome to our forum. Good to see you are obviously an LR fanatic. Whatever part of the Carpathians you were in, I want to go there!!!! Cheers Barry
  24. Does anyone have experience with the 2.5 petrol engines and transmission in Freelander 1`s. Am I right in saying they are a Honda derived unit? They also seem to be fairly rare, as obviously the TD4s were the popular choice, but this would be as well as my main drive Defender so MPG is not a big problem. Cheers Barry
  25. Ditto Paul. Don't forget to wave at every Defender, Series and Assorted Disco and Freebie drivers that you see coming at you. Cheers Barry
