  1. Your a gentleman Ed... So That's the final part of the journey sorted then! I'll see what I can do wouldn't expect you to go out of your way in the wrong direction, just goggle mapped it - I'll see if anybody else can help? Many thanks, Steve
  2. I like the concept Mike - will watch this with interest :-) Steve
  3. Gents, thanks for the prompt replies it's currently in Near Ringwould near Dover, just off the A258, and needs to go to the edge of the Forest of Dean near Lydney just off the A48 from where it'll be taken back over to the Emerald Isle in the next month or so. The rack will go onto a defender roof without any issues but I don't think you'd be able to get both sets of gutter clamps into a defender's gutters, my defender is 150 miles away but the roof rack measures 1490mm accross the gutter feet, from memory the disco roof is slightly wider 5-6mm? However it was collected on a series 88", albeit only 15 miles, and upside down lol...
  4. Folks I'm in abit of a pickle - bought a roof rack off ebay a month or so ago and another forum member kindly collected and is storing it for me. I need to get it across to Ireland and had a few options, but those folks are now unable to help. I have a courier company that will do it for a not unreasonable cost, but want it all bubble wrapped - lol. Another possibilty has appeared on the opposite side of the country, courier want the same cash and same wraping for this short journey too. It's a 2m x 1.4m patriot rack for a disco. Weighs in at 50kgs. Is anybody able to help or recomend a friendly courier service? I don't mind paying for anyones time or fuel, that's the least of my worries. Rack is currently in Kent and would need to get to The Forest of Dean for further transport over the Irish sea. Cheers Steve
  5. Just revisiting this 'Old' topic as I've just bought a 200tdi snorkel off that imfamous auction site. My 300tdi has ABS :-( and I want to fit an aux battery, so I've got a rangie defender style / 200tdi style air box here to fit, anybody got a 200tdi template so I can cut the outer wing? Any photos of the finished solution would be good too. What's a safari snorkel weigh - remeber the one off my old defender being about 4-5kgs? Many thanks, Steve
  6. Gearstick(s) is / are in a different place for a start, defender version is further forward, can be made work mechanically if you don't mind this issue. Well documented here and elsewhere or the interweb. Steve
  7. The cage is fine to sleep on with a mattress over the top - I used to do a bit of winter wild camping with friends and rather than put the roof tent back on again for a quick overnight - I'd use the mattress, on top of the factory / oem dog guard slung accross the two wheel boxes in the back of the 110. Comfy enough, and would save alot of weight. Unless your 'short' you'll need a bit of extra room beyond the dog guard to stetch out. Love the plans btw, watching with interest, may do a similar version in the back of the disco. Steve
  8. As far as I know yes from previous research - the r380's are different - as stated ^^^^ the bell housing is longer as is the input shaft / different / longer. The parts for the cdl is just missing and early ones can depending on the casing used be retrofitted. Steve
  9. That very vehicle was for sale here in NI on gumtree for £7.5 K late last year. Looks like it's been tidied a little bit :-)
  10. Chech the bushes at the top of the rear 'A' frame, and the trailing arms at both ends.... also broken welds / brackets where these join the rear axle. Steve
  11. Thanks! Nice tidy / subtle solution. How do you get to the free wheel / engage lever? Apologies for taking this off topic. Steve
  12. Jan, glad you got sorted - the terrafirma stuff seems to have a good reputation for quality and value for money, haven't tried it yet myself but do intend to. Would you mind posting a picture or two of your whinch setu please-lke the idea of the descrete mounting for my own truck? Thanks, Steve
  13. The wolf wheels will say tubed or tubless on the rim section somewhere, they are available in both types - different part # as well. Some of the 'better' tyres are designed for both modes of inflation as well - think the michelin zxl's have this written on the sidewall somewhere...
  14. I've seen folks just lighting a fire and throwing item in for a few minutes to remove powder coating etc. Steve
  15. Thanks! I thought it was different layout - I'll just get another one sometime. My 90 is 150 miles away so a bit hard to compare side by side.
  16. My '96 300tdi disco has 2 joins, don't recall if the centre box is a genuine one, the rear certianly isn't, the front join after the downpipe has the flare and clamp same as the defender, the rear one for the back box is a slip joint with a 'u' clamp. HTH Steve
  17. Hi folks - yes both rhd (disco & defender I had it on). This ones doesn't pick up on the bumper bolts - it's (was) attached straight to the chassis from memory the steering box bolts on the o/s and the blanks in the chassis on the n/s. The geometery of the bolts locations just seemed to be wrong - guess I'll just put it onto my 90 and get another for the disco
  18. Tried offering it up the other evening, the bugger is far to heavy lol... I'd proped it up on a couple of axle stands but it doesn't apppear to be correct around the steering box bolts - anybody know if it should fit? Thanks, Steve
  19. Often takesa few revolutions of the box to disengage the Diff Lock,is the truck stationary? Sorry can't hepwith the mian g'box selection issues.
  20. Do a search for the 1p belt tensioning guide on here - it's most likely the aux drive belt!
  21. Try asking the same question here http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=22 alot of knowledgeable and pro welders... Steve
  22. How much rust is bad under / over the rear chassis mounts folks - I'm guessing any rust will weaken the x member? I'm just finishing the doot floor etc, have bought yrm replacement chassis mounts but am having to cut out more than I expected to get solid metal, so am having to put substantial plates in under the x member / over the mounts on one side :-(. Now debating if this will weaken it too much and or create a rust trap inside the section. The rest of the section is ok. How much extra of a job is it to replace the whole thing ? How good a fit is the yrm replacement? I've spent a reasonably small amount so far - all the boot floor panels were got off ebay as well as the sills. Don't really want to be ripping it all ouy again in a years time for the next mot lol. Cheers Steve
  23. I'll have to look, haven't needed that bit - I've an R380 5 speed - i'm at work at the moment so will look between now and the weekend for you. Steve
  24. Ah ok - wasn't sure with your your topic title - i have a defender one spare but am keeping my disco one since I've recently They do come up on ebay - I got a more or less new one for £12 -a bout 25-30 aussie dollars. They are available buy it now for £50? Good luck. Steve
