  1. fit it and wire up the pump to your jets - as bowie has said, be a much better water flow to the screen with a more powerful pump, especially if you do the copper pipe round the manifold heated washer fluid trick.
  2. one thing to remember is that if you have got an airbag, then you need to disconnect the battery for 1/2 hour first to allow the system to "discharge" before removing it from the steering wheel via the two small torx bits on the back of the wheel itself.
  3. to be fair that sounds about right for a 300, once they go off boost they are a bit of a 'mare. your not going to see any gains below 1800rpm from turbo mods, as that is where it kicks in, so you're only really going to get improvements from the fuel/air side of things. i would suggest looking at the off boost fuelling (the star wheel in the top of the IP), which may help. IIRC there is a tuning guide in the tech archive, if not, google bosch ve pump tuning to throw up lots of info - or try the turbo diesel owners forum (sorry, can't remember the link) lots of info on there. i don't think you're altitude helps too much either
  4. there is no test for a diesel cat - only for the amount of soot in the exhaust, so no cat makes no difference to the test. took mine off 2 years ago, been through 2 tests since no problem. remove it and either replace with a stainless system (£££'s) or get a non cat 110 downpipe for a 300 tdi (they are out there) klarius part number LR197H
  5. would think it'll affect a lot of chinese import parts, the quality should be better. just imagine using swiss chocolate for something - would that make it exceeding OE quality?
  6. it's now a reality - you can make your own chocolate landrover parts, rather than buying them..... click me
  7. My heater is blowing hot air, even when set on cold??? any ideas people, as it was damn hot yesterday, even with the windows open.....and of course my a/c isn't working again.....
  8. and fiesta's.........but anyway - VERY nice looking bit of kit, well done
  9. it's true that some of the companies do take a long time to reply, some of them only have two or three employees. i remember when i was looking at upgrading my intercooler, it took the best part of a week for the supplier to reply with a price and availability - they were on there summer shutdown at the time though. it does pay to persevere with them, and not give up hope - give them a week or so to reply, and see what happens, not all suppliers of landrover parts are huge multi national conglomerates....
  10. the instructions that come with the allisport 'coolers do specify to adjust the fuelling, as the extra cold air requires more fuel as it is denser. not adjusting the fuel could lead to a lean mixture under heavy throttle, and potential serious problems. IIRC for the full width 'cooler, the instructions say to mark the original position of the diaphragm, and then adjust the pump diaphragm as far as it will go, then back it off a bit at a time until an acceptable level of smoke is reached. with the direct replacement ones, they say to adjust it half way to full, and again tweak it until the right level of smoke is reached. when it comes to mot time, mark the position you found that worked and reset the pump to where it was originally
  11. Strange one this, my Disco 300 tdi has started to sound like an Imprezza this morning. There is a definate change in the engine note that can be heard through the snorkel, to a more burbly/lumpy one, more so at tickover (which is still smooth, but does have very slight lumpy feel to it - but not a major running on 3 sound) and when driving with the window down, it sounds like a flat 4 boxer engine. No loss of power, no more smoke than usual, oil and water are fine. Any ideas what's likely to be going on????
  12. that won't be a problem - he can make some new pulleys now...... makes two of us........
  13. from what i can tell, they've worked it out to be cheaper for someone to do it, than to pay to get it shipped over.
  14. I've had an interesting proposition put my way (sort of).......and no, it's not the Demi Moore/Woody Harrellson type A friend of the lady who does our accounts at work has recently left the UK and moved to Gozo (Malta), now the husband has just come back this weekend, and wanted her husband to tow their boat down to the new house for them, but he's unwilling to do so with their D2. Jokingly i said i'd do it, as long as they cover the expenses for fuel etc (worked it out to be about £1k in fuel for the return trip) so thought call it 2k to cover all expenses (hotels, tolls etc). Just spoke to SWMBO and she's up for it :D :D soooo........week off work, and road trip of a lifetime (for me anyway) taking in France (downside), Switzerland, Italy etc.... whould you do it????
  15. that looks different - kind of like a confused 90, can't make it's mind up between the two. surely that would give the golden 100" wheel base too?? like it though.
  16. enjoy..... drooool
  17. i'm on my second set of BM blue's. the first ones were just plain HD ones, no lift, with tuffback shocks. they were fine until after 18 months of normal use (commuting/towing light loads) the tuffbacks failed completely. at all times it felt level on the road. i've now got 2" lift BM springs on the front, and TBH they are a bit soft, as over any large bumps they crash and bang, so need some higher poundage ones really. the rears are new HD ones, and give a bigger lift than the 2" lift ones - strange, but yes it does sit higher at the back, and it also sits level all round (using procomp +2" shocks and 235/85 tyres too.
  18. IIRC my mates 86 model has got a round beam, as has my disco......
  19. not as far as i know they don't. the best people to ask would be ashcroft transmissions - they are considered the R380 guru's....
  20. found this while perusing the internet on a boring saturday morning @ work..... My link
  21. going on the way the bumper mounts, that's a defender chassis - disco bumpers have the bolts horizontal. it's possible it had a galv chassis fitted with a discovery engine
  22. on the top of the filter housing, between the pipes, is a little bolt/screw, undo that, pump the lift pump until fuel comes through - should do the trick. if not the crack the injector pipes off, and spin it over - one way should work
  23. fair play that's one nice RRC....well done those new wheels look rather nice, wide arches are going to ruin the look though imho
  24. oooh there's a 101 and defender with sankey in there as well....
  25. delaminated turbo hose, or a leak somwhere. black smoke is too much fuel, and if your hose has collapes internally, as they tend to do, then you will get over fuelling and no boost. take the hose off the inlet manifold and see if the smoke goes away.
