  1. clean the whole sill off with a wire brush. ideally you should cut the rot out and put a new plate in, although you can just plate over (the rust will keep eating away behind though) buy some rust killer, jenolite or equivalent, and plaster the ouside of the sill with it, then put a plate over the top of the hole. if you can , then put some jenolite in a spray bottle, with a pipe on the end, insert it into one of the holes and spray the inside with the stuff too. leave it to dry, then spray some waxoyl or cavity wax into the sill to keep the rust at bay for a bit longer. this should also help protect the holes you've drilled in the sill as well. you could (in theory) run a continuos thick bead of sealant around each of the bolt holes to keep water out, although it will still find a way in. expanding foam is a bad idea, as it holds the moisture in, and is also a major fire risk if you ever have to plate the sill in the future. i cut and replaced with new metal on mine
  2. sounds like you need to adujst the spring preload, and the stop screw. try http://www.legionlandrover.com/index.php?sec=31&id=12&tipo=Todos%20los%20modelos about 13 up from the bottom for the proper tuning details i retuned the pump on my old one, following the proper bosch tuning instructions, and it made a hell of a difference to the acceleration. that was with a full width intercooler, and 235/85 tyres, running standard boost. you can of course alter the boost slightly on a 300tdi, but it's advisable to have an EGT fitted.
  3. what about some some hose clips with a quick release mechanism similar to the ones used on bike seats
  4. should a 300 series front prop be phased (ie joints in line) or un phased (ie joints not in line)?

    Xtrons

double din won't fit a landrover, as it is a double size radio - ie twice the height. i have the D708 in my disco (xtrons) and it has been absolutely fine, no problems at all. the only real pain was the amount of wiring behind it made it an absolute nightmare to squeeze it into the dash
  6. hmmm, he obviously didn't.....would SU's be upto the challenge of fuelling a 4.6? let alone come MOT time "excuse me sir, where are your lambda probes and catalysts? sorry, can't test it mate" as for that gem, well, nuff said really could have been a nice truck - if built by the right person of course
  7. not in the slightest bit jealous in any way shape or form......... very nice pics
  8. come on fridge, you've even posted some of the ebay abominations on here yourself - not everyone can handle a spanner..... as for your plans mikey, get the S3 on the galv chassis (absolute bargain at that price with 12 months ticket - just check it over properly when you get home, can't be too careful with cheap cars and a new mot) then rebuild "brian" to show spec - but with your own twists ie tdi engine, just try to make it look like it was built by the factory.
  9. .............. completely lost for words - apart from WHY???
  10. stick on front plates are legal (as long as they are made to the current specs) on vehicles built before 2001
  11. um, can't tell at the moment - need a machete to get inside. AFAIK it's complete, was used for a couple of years then parked up.
  12. nope, according to the DVLA system we use at work, 01/09/94 was the registration date - in other words, the date it left service with the military. the P plate would be age related to when built.
  13. good anti theft though - lot's of brambles.
  14. grrr - darn forum upgrades.....try item number 230668351663 on ebay (won't let me post a link) would get all the steel items done in one go on that one :)
  15. i reckon it would. you would only need to be two blocks high to fit the chassis in there. alternatively, what about one of those cheap kids paddling pools? lay the chassis on top, then inflate the pool around it?
  16. After some discussions with a gent in the local, I have found a Series 3 Lightweight for not much money, and my brother is potentially going to buy it as a project for him and my nephew...... First impressions after digging through the hedge to get to it, are that it is complete, original and in very good condition. It was driven to it's current spot 3/4 years ago. According to the DVLA it was registered in 1994. The o/s outrigger looks a bit crusty, as does the rear crossmember and the top of the bulkhead, although the chassis looks to be in very good condition, and is covered with lots of layers of green military paint. As can be seen, it even has the original 2.25 petrol engine still fitted, and i am assured that it does still run.
  17. How do you fit castor correction bushes (and no "press them in" replies please )? Obviously they are offset where the bolt holes are to hold the arms to the axle, but how should they be orientated?
  18. or an electric supercharger........ hat coat door......
  19. I finally managed to fit the boost gauge I bought several months ago yesterday, and I am not really sure on the accuracy of it (I doubt any are that accurate, as they probably aren't calibrated). The factory boost figure for a 300tdi is 0.8-1.0 bar at actuator T piece (according to rave), so in theory, after the boost has passed through the intercooler, the pressure at the manifold should be slightly lower. Following on from threads on other forums, I have attached the boost line to the blanked off port in the back of the inlet manifold, rather than cutting the boost pipe, and so am getting a true boost level into the cylinders - of 1.1bar on full boost :?: does this mean that my nice recon turbo that i fitted last year is set too high by the reconditioners? or the Allisport 'cooler is not restricting the boost in any way ie it's more free flowing?
  20. what about using a cheap alarm off ebay with a remote start function? rather than having it set to start the engine, wire it to the heater? IIRC i've seen them for about £30 or so although being in Aberdeenshire, wouldn't it be better to have the 7 day timer for the winter? set and forget for the same time each morning? especially judging by the "predictions" for this winter, and the long cold spell we had this year
