  1. Hi all, I appologise if this is very O/T but I am looking for a Satnav as I'm tired of getting lost, and I am asking here because people here do a lot of journeys, will have experience with a varied type and crucially, know if any don't work with a Defender's near vertical screen, if that's an issue. If it is O/T slap my wrist or boot me off the forum, whatever suits. So Yeah, I'm looking for a Satnav and I want something cheap (as ever ) but good. I'd like to know who to buy from and what models/makes are good. I don't like ebay as having my bank account emptied without my knowledge and handling stolen goods aren't really my thing. Likewise with the 'big' stores, PC World, Halfords, Comet, Currys, all aimed at people who are too lazy to see that they can buy the same thing for a lot cheaper from the internet - but where? Cheers
  2. Thanks to James for another great day off roading, and everyone else for making it enjoyable. Most of my pictures are too blurred to show which were of pretty much every vehicle, so only a few feature...
  3. A mate of mine told me that on the TG website there was a discussion about them adding the V8 soundtrack over the Terios, and apparently they didn't, it's the engine of the camera car being picked up... don't know if that's true or not.
  4. Nice, but there's a 4 letter acronym in there that rings some alarm bells! I reckon it looks nice if you can get it for the right price, Pugwash. I'm not sure why 90s have this pricetag that owners put on them, they must think the chassis is gold plated underneath the mud and rust.
  5. I'm looking forward to tomorow, I just hope all this sunny weather won't have dried out the site too much and made it boring! At least there won't be an 2 hour downhill winching sessions though..
  6. Thanks a lot everyone, I'll have to get in contact with some of those companies.
  7. I had a look and it seems a lot for what looks essentially to be the hose from a henry hoover.
  8. Hi all, I am looking for pipe that I can use to replace my snorkel's ducting under the bonnet, at the moment there is some kind of canvas-like material ribbed ducting that is looking tired. I was advised a smooth inner surface is better. What kind of tubing should I go for and where can you buy it? B&Q, Wickes, Homebase etc don't sell anything stand-alone which is of the required dimensions.
  9. I was 'cleaning' the bottom of mine with a shovel after the last weekend at culmhead, I want re-embursment for the skip hire to get it off my lawn. I can only imagine how much of wellington is under your car after that winching, Si.
  10. It would appear this issue has a lot of 4x4 owners worried.. http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&s...earch&meta= As for the program, enjoyable, but quite staged. The car didn't do too badly, but then they were only on woodland tracks and open fields, nothing that should have posed an issue. It would have been wrecked after that show was made, which is where it differs from the purpose built machines in my opinion.
  11. I found this particuarly useful when doing the oil change for mine. http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=24279&hl
  12. I felt the swamp with the two little drainage swamps either side of it being described as a track by the organisers of this fun filled day out was a tad inaccurate. The task of making 42 tonnes of tree disappear without filling up the sides of the track was also quite difficult... I don't think that tree stump will be going anywhere soon either.
  13. Apparently it was touch and go in reverse, Ian said it was just as well I couldn't see where my wheels where on the near side
  14. I am guessing that may have something to do with it not working then . Thanks Western.
  15. My wiper has also never worked since my ownership of the vehicle. I have spent some time today trying to free it up as the wiper was stuck solid with the motor. Having freed it up, it still doesn't work. In the past I have tested current to the motor so this is not the problem. I also noticed that the housing of the motor seems to be missing some part. As it is, the housing has a large hole in the bottom with a dome shape leading up to it and two screw holes like something is meant to be attached, I am hoping someone can look at the pictures below and say if this is the case or not. What are these two wires for? Where should the movement for the wiper come from? The motor is not currently fixed because of the missing screws and revolves with the arm if it is turned unless held, but should the shaft appearing from out of the nut on the outside of the door revolve if it is powered normally, as the blade currently moves without this turning, and I am wondering if this means the link between motor and wiper is broken with the arm just being loose. Sorry to be untechnical in my description of things.
  16. I do want to compete but funds don't allow. I don't remember saying that about Ben, it was 50/50 effort all the way!
  17. That was a really good weekend, we would have done well had we not got stuck or broken down every time before a special stage, but that's off roading. I learnt that the one punch you don't walk before driving will be the one that gets you stuck, and that a peugeot 306 is not a comfortable place to sleep. Didn't even break anything, but have picked up a missfire on the V8 I don't know how to solve. Thanks to all the organisers and marshalls, and everyone that gave us tows!
  18. I find it interesting that Land Rover use these tyres on Experience vehicles and seem to work fine on their courses.
  19. Aren't I down to marshal? Wouldn't be suprised if not, with my performance on the weekend...
  20. Just found it on the entry form, it starts at 9, sorry. Scrutineering is at 8:15.
  21. I had a set of 265/75R16 Insa Turbo Special Tracks on my standard 90, they were fine except for slight rubbing on full lock but you can adjust the stops for that. They also rubbed offroad on the wheel arches at the rear once when carrying 5 people and me, but my springs were sagging at the rear. As mentioned, they are not nice on road, you have said you don't intend to use them for anything other than off roading or driving to the events and you should be fine, I used them only for travel to and from events (as well as the event itself) and then I took them off when I wasn't going off road. They pick up a noise that makes it sound something like a WW2 bomber going down the road at over 20 mph, becoming unreasonably loud at anything over 40. I've decided my use is not 'extreme' enough to warrant them, so I'm selling them. The day I had them fitted someone came up to the car in a carpark and asked what size they were, and to be fair they looked brilliant, but unless you're into posing, which I'm not, they're just too aggressive for everyday use.
  22. I'm tempted to do away with using a tent all together, I was thinking of bringing the peugeot so I can sleep in the back of that but I'm not sure I want to drive it up the access track... my tent proved it wasn't waterproof from water under it at 7S and I don't think this weekend will be much drier.
  23. Well I did have my foot flat down for some of it, especially the longer hills and it would struggle to keep to an indicated 55 (I think we were doing more than that though) hence I was dropping back and gaining up constantly but I was definetly trying to refrain from keeping it down for long, for fuel efficiency. Did just over half a tank on the way back which is a 1/3rd less than the way there. Edited to add - my speedo must be out then, Tim!
