hmmm... was thinking of putting a fuel cut of switch somewhere last year but never got around to it. A physical tap (like a stop cock) type affair. I'm off to south france and the old man (he lives down their sometimes) was saying that a lot of 4x4's were getting targeted down there for general crime & "exportation" by some non-locals.

odd question I know, but I'm away in the defender for 2-weeks and I'm parking on a road away from the house. Got the usual immob & mechanical locks etc, but I was just fiddling on with the defender tonight and had the steering wheel off then I thought.... if I'm leaving it on a road for a few days I'll take the steering wheel with me to the house... what you reckon? Worth the hassle or just wasting my time? ps. it takes about 60 seconds to remove on mine. Jas

and the cheviot 4x4 one looked a lot worse for wear last time I saw it.... it looked really smart during the build though. (as much as I loath to say it) Jas

Just cycled from Barrow-in-furness in the south Lakes to Sunderland.....must have seen about 10 defenders per hour on the first day, they were everywhere. B)

I live up here (newcastle) I can collect them & ..............lets think.... In two weeks I'm driving down to the channel tunnel (in the middle of the night though) I travel to sheffield once in a while, but not till july I'm afraid... I'm in Leeds on the 18/19/20 July.. I'm in barrow in furness tomorrow night.....if someone can collect them from me then, I can collect them tommorrow if the buyer will sell them quick.... Failing that, I have a large garage and I'm not a thieving scrote...so I can happily store them until other arrangement are made... just thought....I could collect & store until start of july "ish", I'll be back from france then and probably visiting relatives in Lincoln - not far from Gainsbrough. Can meet with Luke ? Let me know if need be. Jas

eh? that throws a spanner in the works how is it different? Jas

cheers mike, doesn't sound too bad. Think I'll order them tonight. Did you ever get those other locks for your defender? JAS

Hi, Thought I had seen this topic before, but I can't find it. I need to change the lock barels on the defender and I want the fuel cap the same key. Thought I would buy 4 barels and 1 cap, then put three of the barels on the doors and the other one on the fuel cap. Is it that easy? (I doubt it.... ) also.... Paddocks want about £25 for the lot. LR Dealer wants £71 for the lot. Does anyone know of a good reason not to use the paddocks ones? cheers in advance Jas

I'll remember that one, excellent write up Les. Jas -
as he says^^^^^ declare used of 20l/month, then put in what ever you use etc....then it doesn't matter if you get dipped at the road side. I only do 4/5000 mile a year now so its not worth it for me. Jas

oops.... any damage to the o/s A post/pillar? Jas

I was talking to a guy who was towing a new "non-runner" project back home from big bang VW show last month. He got pulled on the way back and told to leave the car at the side of the road until he could return with a trailer - the A frame was not an option as far a the law were concerned - regardless of what was on it.. I think it's something they are getting wiser to? Jas

Shall we have a nice friendly thread???

£60.......... that's what the ex-brother in law got fined for having non standard plates on his not-very-inconspicuous-big-bore-jap-carp motor........and I have no doubt he gave the copper some verbal and was driving like a dick in the first place to attract attention. If you a "normal" pleasant person and your unlucky enough to get your collar felt for the black plates they may just say "get them changed"......if they notice at all........ Jas

just journo's filling pages that's all. I knew a guy who wrote for airgun and fishing mags in the early 90's. He freely admitted he would make stuff up about stalking down some bloody rabbits in a quarry just so he could fill the pages. When he ran dry of ideas he would look through back issues of old mags to "encourage" his imagination. I think the correct term is "drivel"............. Jas

deep ones I'd heard...................

never tried tripe, but used to have a whippet, and it's not grim, its bloody great! buy by your description your north of the Tyne..... I'm in Washington, theres a couple others in Durham and M'bro, but most of them seem to be nearer France... .......yet despite that I'd argue that your now on one of the best technically informative LR forums in the UK....
