  1. So to update this, as it's been over a year, wow! We've taken the start out - looks ok. We've trained the BW and auto box - no lumps of metal, all good We've removed the two boxes - this was last autumn inbetween lock downs and before the bad weather hit! Flex plate looks fine with no cracks Looking in through the filler hole of the Borg Warner i can see the chain, still a nice clean grey colour and I've pushed the chain from left to right and I thought that that wasn't an excessive amount of chain slack. We'll take the auto box to a local reconditioning coming to have it checked over beings it's out. Does anyone know of any local Hampshire/Sussex/Kent places that would have a look at a Borg Warner transfer box or what things can go wrong? I know of chain stretch, the viscous locking up, but apart from that there's not much else to look at. I will check the starter again for gear springyness of it sliding out and catching the flex plate. It's almost worth fitting a new starter. Plan of action is try and get both boxes checked over, refit, maybe new starter and see what happens..... Regards Steve
  2. I hope so too! We need a first time buyer and an end of chain property and in by Christmas! Here's hoping! Ooow yes! Love a workshop build!
  3. Good news Mike! I guess that means you've passed the baton to me as we're looking to get our house on the market! Steve
  4. It maybe worth while measuring the valve clearance 'as is' before you take it apart just to see if you can sport anything? And do you have the build sheet from when you set the clearance/preload, i.e. you scriblings! Steve
  5. I change mine when I do an oil change along with the normal oil filter. I haven't cut mine open to see what was inside! Steve
  6. I bought a thing like that but the screen was your phone. So you bought a cable with a camera on the end. It's useful for a lot of things! I wanted to buy my Dad one, but it seems all you can buy now are wifi ones, which I think over complicates them......I just want one that plugs into your phone!! Steve
  7. That looks like the kick down cable. Have a look in my Racer thread here: I had to replace mine, it's quite involved, but if you keep everything clean and labelled, you'll be fine! Steve
  8. Yes, I was thinking the same! They needed a better camera angle for the first two corners as you literally couldn't anything for dust!
  9. Yes, I was surprised at how many channels it was shown on including the news! Apparently due to the dust the qualifying format was changed from a head to head style to a rally format where one team goes out and sets a lap before the next team and so. I think this format worked very well as the drivers could concentrate for speed and the correct line over worrying about dust and hitting another car which is what happened in the main race. It will be interesting to see how the format unfolds for the next race in May as I thought the 'head to head' final races where a bit of a let down as once one car gets out in front the other two are in the dust! Steve
  10. If anyone caught Top Gear Episode 2 the other week, you'll know what I'm going on about! (The new Defender was in episode 3!) Sounds like an interesting concept and there's certainly high profile drivers, so we'll see what happens. https://www.extreme-e.com/en/index It starts in 3 days and looks like you can watch it from the website or youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmlrp3y74JN1L1o1tSdeINw I think I'll follow it and see how it unfolds! Steve There maybe other TV stations that have it judging by the website!
  11. James' workshop build may help. And JU's build too: Steve
  12. Glad you sorted it! I had an issue with a Range Rover 10 spline axle which did turn out to be a case of two different seals and bushes, over a change over year, so I just had the wrong seal/part number! It amazes me how manufactures can get parts so wrong! Do they not trial fit it onto the part it is meant to fit before plans go out the machine shop?! Or maybe it's not getting any feedback from the customer that it doesn't fit! Steve
  13. That's looking really good! There's no problem with your vinyl trimming, that's for sure! Steve
  14. That looks like a Delta-Tek end bearing, part of their freespool, so I think it is probably pressed in to the end plate. Steve
  15. Hi, do you have a link to the kit you have bought? I appreciate you have said you are struggling for pictures, so maybe not! I bought a set of 'standard' looking tubular wings from Whitbread off road, told them what I was doing and they sent me the tubes welded together with a bit of extra length, so that I could trim them down to my own design. Check out my build thread here: Let us know your requirements and I'm sure we can help you out with a plan of attack! Steve
  16. Just to update this, I ended up going for the Erbauer Multi tool. It comes in a case, it has quick change blades and a light. It also has a decent length 4m power cable and it did it's first job of cutting a section of skirting board out faultlessly! Steve
  17. I hadn't heard of this and obviously too young to remember the original series! I found one here, and probably the rest: I'll take a watch! Steve
  18. I have draw a quick sketch of what I thought you could do. It would still involve you drilling some holes, but only M8 and you may get away with 2 holes (I've drawn 3). The pins for the mud flap brackets could them be drilled and tap and bolted in from the underside using countersunk cap head bolts. Hope this helps.
  19. Check my build thread out for quick release mud guard mounting. In your case you could weld a pin to a strip of steel which you could bolt to your cross member for a quick release option. Just found a quote by yourself in my build thread dated 2012! Steve
  20. I did see the copy grinder, interesting......i may purchase one myself! Steve
  21. https://www.mccormicktools.co.uk/tools/hand-tools/socketry/ratchet-wrenches/sealey-ratchet-wrench-flexi-head-extra-long-600mm-1-2sq-drive-ak6698.html I originally bought this tool to undo tight bolts in a small 45 degree opening as a breaker bar had limited positions and didn't work. Since them I'm always using it! It undoes tight bolts, but I still us a proper breaker bar for the really tight stuff as it does state on the packaging not to used as a breaker bar! and it's sealey premier so has a lifetime guarantee. I think I payed £32 as the flexi head was on offer at the time!
  22. When you say old style door cards, which ones are you refering too? I don't recall any differences with TD5 and TDi door cards. All I know is that door cards off a one piece lift up handle wind down window door are different as I had to trim my TD5 door cards to miss some of the contours on the old doors. Steve
  23. I did not know that Erbauer is Screwfix's own brand! I'll have a look at that dewalt......although I could buy the Makita one as I have the batteries......Hmmm!
  24. It maybe just because I've grown up with old vices (my Dad uses his Dad's vice, which I used when I was at home!), but I wouldn't dream of buying a brand new vice! The old ones are the best and you can pick up some bargains! I have a massive Parkinsons vice, which is massive! I use a lot of Sealey ratchets and sockets etc. My first set I got when I started my apprenticeship and 17 years later, I'm still using them, These and any new items I buy I make sure they have the lifetime guarantee, so you have no problem in exchanging anything if it brakes. I'm in the market for a multi tool and am in the same predicament. I don't really want to buy super cheap, but I don't want to spend £200, I want something in the middle which is decent and will last. So far I'm looking at an Erbauer: https://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-emt300-qc-300w-electric-multi-tool-220-240v/622fx It comes in a case which I like, the reviews are good and it has a quick change function which a lot do have now. I have the Makita 18V batteries and had looked at the Makita multi tool, but I don't know if the extra money is worth it. I envisage that this tool wont get used regularly so a lower priced unit mat suit! Does anybody have any recommendations? Steve
