1. I've got no answer to that. Thats what the figures before and after worked out at. I used to do 25,000 miles a year in it so the figures were worked out from quite a lot of fill ups.
2. Have you removed the viscous fan yet?I replaced mine with an electric fan on my TD5 and it went from doing 28mpg to 32. You could tell the engine was a bit more responsive too.

3. There must be more than a dozen on a certain auction site: http://www.ebay.co.u...-All-Categories
4. If stainless on ali is a big no no then why use them on the door hinges?
5. I used a sheet of 3mm steel to make a plate which the seats just bolt to. At the back I bolted a braket to the seat box that the plate just slides under to stop it lifting, and at the front I drilled 2 holes that allows two tailgate catches to fit through. They work but it took a bit of adjustment to get the catches to hold the plate down correctly and not rattle loose. I'm already working on the Mk2 version whic I'm thinking of using a lynch pin arrangement instead of the tail gate latches.
6. This is one of the next jobs on my rebuild. I don't like the idea of running it through the chassis in case there are any sharp bit in ther either. Also I like the idea of it being more accessible for mods or repairs, but as above I don't want to drill loads of holes in the chassis. On aircraft all the wiring is held in place with cable ties on a ladder type arrangement so I'me thinking of using something similar for the loom, brake pipes and fuel pipes. That way I only need drill the holes to attach the ladder and then use cable ties to secure everything to it.

7. Sounds like a turbo related problem to me. Check all the turbo pipes aren't loose or split and as above could be the waste gate.
8. I filled up at a sainsbury's once and got 50L of water! It was only because my landy was a TD5 with ae fuel contamination warning light that no serious damage was done. Sainsbury's never offered to pay the repair bill despite having a receipt and statement from the AA saying where I was recovered 2 miles down the road from the garage and that they removed 50L of water from the tank. I still to this day boycott Sainsburys but I have also found supermarket fuel to be lower quality than shell, bp, esso etc
9. Unfair advantage To be honest I just want to see a prius being towed out of the snow regardless of who does it. Preferably with a greenpeace sticker on it somewhere.
10. I plan to refurb my dash when I re-build it too but my pla is to rip off all the covering material and paint what is left covering the joint with some edging strip . No idea if it will work or how it will look but it can't be worse than it's current state and if it does I won't have lost anything because I would have to buy a new one anyway .
11. I'll let you know how I get on removing it. Rich
12. Thats a great challenge. Providing mine is running in time I accept that challenge Rich
13. That would be good. Would be interested to see how it goes. The priority for mine at the moment is just to get in on the road again. If its not going to cause reliability problems I may still give it a go but I value reliability over the extra ground clearance it would achieve.
14. I don't want to sound dismissive but having just tried to repair my own bulkhead and failed which was, judging from the pic in slightly better condition, I think it might be easier to weld corn flakes . The problem I had with mine is that the available repair panels aren't quite long enough to cover all the rot and it is a lot of work to make the other sections. It may be more cost effective to try and source a secondhand bulkhead. If you really want to salvage yours, I still have my old bulkhead but I won't have access to it until later this month (It's in sheffield I'm in salisbury). I can see if I can remove the drain channel in one piece and if so your welcome to it. Rich
15. I knew some people wouldn't be able to resist the joke answers. I did also think I would get more views that way too though Interesting that the casing has an effect to the preload. But that exactly the sort of issue that made me ask the question. If it was just a simple mod I may have tried it but being a bit more involved and with the potential problems I don't think I'll bother. I'm also more likely to do long trips in it than anything else.
16. I've seen quite a few comments about shaving a salisbury axle but no discussion about it. Is it just a matter of cutting an inch off the bottom or is there more to it. Now usually things are designed a certain way for a reason so will cutting an inch off the bottom cause any other problems like oil leaks, cracking etc? Has anyone else done it and have you had any problems? Rich
17. May have already missed this since I've only scan read the posts and looked at the pics, but what pipe bender are you using? Rich
18. Get on of these for the bottom of the gun: http://www.sprayguns...roducts_id=5136
19. Have you tried one of these? http://www.x-eng.co.uk/X-Fan.aspI used one for years with no leaks.
20. Watch this: The bit about orange peel is at 3:03. But essentially he says too much pressure in the gun, holding too close, or paint not thin enough.
21. I know when I did mine last it was a pain to bleed the system. Despite the manual saying no bleeding is required. After a bit of digging I eventually found a bleed procedure as described above. I had to repeat it several times before it worked. Subsequentley I've found if you repeat steps 1 & 2 (below) three or four times before trying step 3 it will usually work first time. 1. Turn the ignition off for at least 15 seconds as this makes sure the ECU resets. 2. Turn the ignition key to position 2 and wait 3 minutes (this purges any air from the fuel rail) 3. Push the throttle to the floor and crank the engine.
22. When you say high revs, how high? Are you sure you've not just hit the rev limiter?
23. Short between the rear brake lights and fuel sender wires possibly?
24. Cheers for the pics. Did you make your own steering damper mount? Also this may be a daft question but why doesn't a disco have a steering damper or is it just located somewhere else? Rich
25. Just rang to ask about parts availability and they were completely un-interested in talking to me, coughing straight down the phone and then to top it all, hung up on me. Has anyone dealt with them before? Are they normally like this or just having a bad day? Looking at their website thay have a fair bit in stock and aren't that far away which would be useful.
