  1. I have one, and (in case you don't already get the idea...) they are bl00dy brilliant. The difflock one that I have is actually a koken (very good japanese tool mfr) tulip headed extended impact socket... but it's a propshaft nut tool to most of us! Add a rattle gun for instant propshaft karma....
  2. Inside the engine bay is very minimal - The snorkel pipe comes throught the wing in a fairly complex curve (hence the need to cut and shut!) and onto a straight piece of silicone hose, onto another straight bit of 2.5" stainless tube, and then goes through the inner wing using a samco silicone reducing elbow (3" - 2.5") and the straight onto the aircleaner... In terms of the engine bay, there is only a couple of inches of pipe, straight onto the aircleaner that sits on top of the inner wing for a 200TDI. I am not sure where the airbox is on a V8.... will do some pictures if ou like, but on a 200 there's not much pipework! cheers Mark
  3. You can get a 235/85 -16 BFG on the standard mount - so thats about 32.5" diameter. What size are you going up to? Devon 4x4 used to do a replacement wheel carrier that replaced the standard one, but the studs were high ehough to get a 35" tyre on. Not sure it they still do though. The other alternative is to put the wheel in the truck as it is a massive weight on he back door, which only gets bigger as your tyre size goes up! I have yet to see an equivalent of the defender spare wheel swingawy cover for the disco, but if you find one post it up! Just a thought, but why not chop out the top of the bumper and put in a scallop so the wheel clears on the standard holder.... Cheers Mark
  4. I would have thought that attaching a ali floor out of a rangie would work - it would just need shortening by about 4". I suspect that the bits that are rotten are the edge supports round the outside of the centre section, which really do need welding in....
  5. Err, yeah, I do l know where they are - on a 3 door. I can only assume there are less on a 5-door - which are we talking about here?
  6. Ah, you want an actual shop that you can actually walk into and pay actual money in return for an actual product? How very traditional of you jim...
  7. Jim, There's loads on eBlag - might be worth contacting one or two sellers directly? Otherwise go straight to the source - kellykettle.com hth Mark
  8. Blimey, it's leaf sprung as well...
  9. On the Disco axle, what do the ends of the halfshats looklike? If they look the same as the ones on the Rangie axle and havd 14mm head bolts in, then it should be imperial. If the ends of the shafts are much shallower and have 17mm head bolts then it is a metric axle. hth Mark
  10. I made mine by buying the top and the wing cover from southdown (seconds, via eBlag) and then using a piece of 2.5" od stainless tube that was bent into vaguely the correct shape when I found it at the scrappy. I cut and shut the tube, welded it up, and then used a couple of bits of Samco silicone hose to joint it to the aircleaner. Essentially, I ended up with a copy of the Southdown one, but for much less money. I wanted one where the tube went along the inside of the wing rather than the safari one on the outside. It seems to work well!
  11. I have mine spliced back to itself as lewis describes - if I am every lowering out it means I will never get to that point where the vehicle is supported by an M6 machine screw
  12. Someone may have fitted the springs the wrong way round? ie front springs on the back, rear on the front. Disco's are heavy at the back end, so the lean would really be noticable...
  13. Bish, I think Nick (roguevogue) put some info up on modifying a standard power steering box - might be worth checking out his vehicle thread?

    8274

I have 125' of 11mm bowrope on my 8074 drum, and I have to admit that I think it is too much. The drum is very similar dimensions to and 8274, and 125' fills it up when spooled neatly - If doing a side pull or even just general winching where it doesn't spool neatly it gets very close to fouling and is prone to going off the end of the drum. Whilst I have used the extra length, I definitely think 100' and an extension is the way to go... </2p> Mark
  18. I have the oportunity to rebuild a 200tdi engine and whilst money is very much an object, it got me thinking as to what could be done whilst building to get a bit more power without sacrificing the reliability... This dosn't seem to be something that people talk about much - is that because it isn't worth th effort? 200TDIs don't need tuning? the parts aren't easily obtainable or they just don't like it? I was thinking in terms of the obvious fuelling tweaks, but also along the lines of boring and/or stroking to get a bit more capacity? does the engine respond to head work at all? bigger turbo's? at the moment i am interested in what is possible... cheers Mark
  19. Make : Butters AMT Model : MIG 175 How Long have you had it / How old is it : ~5 Years, and it was a couple of years old when I bought it (via eBay) Typical Current Price : equivalent model is around £450 Maximum Welding Current (AMPS) :175 Output at 60% Duty Cycle : 90A Welding Wire range in mm : 0.6 and 0.8 Small Large or BOTH re Wire Spools : 5 and 15kg Euro Torch (Yes / No ) : Yes Argosheild Bottle - max Size that will fit : it will take Z (full size) but I use Y (half height) Weight : can be lifted into the truck by one person relativly easily... no idea in kg's What is the most typical things you weld with it - thicknesses etc : Done a lot of Discovery and Range Rover bodywork, some chassis work - so between 2 and 4mm. Have done 6mm and have welded 20mm bar to 6mm bumper with no problems. Other standard Features : spot/stitch weld timer and its er.... Orange... Good Points : It has a very large copper transformer for this sort of machine. controls are simple and easy to use. Bad Points : standard earth clamp is a bit carp, but that is easily replaced with a proper one On a scale of 1 to 10 1 being very unhappy with it, and 10 being "Its perfect for me" rate it : 8 - does all the things I want it to do. if i were to move into heavier Fab type stuff, i would likely want a bit more power - essentially a really good machine to start and learn on.
  20. You could always make your own end plate? Mark
  21. Not exactly nearby, but Margnor Fasteners in Guildford sell Rocol cutting fluids. I am sure soluable oil is available mail order from the likes of chronos too? hth Mark
  22. I have fitted a combination of all the suggestions above... The NATO is fitted to the HD bumper on the disco, which is braced directly to the chassis, but on a 90 this would be equivalent of bolting directly to the cross-member. The Southdown tank guard then has a modified adjustable height tow bracket. Means I can completely remove towing kit for off-roading and have the hitch fully adjustable as I regularly tow several different trailers with a mixture of pin and ball hitches... Just an idea...
