  1. I dunno... it looks like a flattened citroen....
  2. I am liking the idea of keeping the height down, but I think for my purposes having sides on the rack would be required. The simplicity of that rack is superb though. Any more pictures of the legs/clamps? I actually have a small rack that I aquired, minus the mounting legs, as they were bent on a laning expedition, so it may be that I modify that with some new, lower profile legs. Problem is, I want to be able to attach something along the full length of the roof... Mo, There is something in the planning stages at the moment... Cheers Mark
  3. Jim, Fitted one to my disco nearly 2 years ago.. there's some pics here I did it before Si had the modified calipers, so had to modify it myself. Now he has the calipers modified out of the box, so there isn't a problem. Only small issues I found were you have to cut the heatshield for the exhaust back a bit, and you need to ensure the bracket for the cable does not interfere with the floor as it's all very close. I am pretty sure it's all covered in the instructions tho. I have had it on and off for various reasons several times now (not to do with the handbrake!), and can fit it from parts in about 20 minutes... Any other disco queries Jim, let me know. Cheers Mark
  4. I believe the page you are looking for is linked in the Tech Archive - Have a look in there. enjoy Mark
  5. I think I might be in the market for a roofrack for my Disco, so wondered if anyone had any experience of any specifically - good, bad or indifferent? I think that a roof length one is what I am after - ie one that covers the whole roof, rather than just the bit before or after the hump. This is not the put a roof tent on, so I think one with built up sides would be better too. Pictures of diferent types would also be appreciated - I am still doing the thinking and really havn't made my mind up yet... If anyone has one for sale, I could well be interested too. Any info opinions or offers gratefully received. Cheers Mark
  6. Have a look in the roll cage thread pinned at the top of this forum... enjoy Mark
  7. The Econoseal range is also what Land Rover use on the lamp holders for NAS lights, Disco Bumper lights, Freelander Lights, and the later Defender lights (ie with lamp holders rather than a lead coming from the light fitting) just thought someone might like to know. Cheers Mark
  8. FYI... Comparison of a 235/85-16 Insa Turbo vs a 205/16 Mud terrain. The insa's come up at just under 33" when new. hth Mark
  9. There was an article in one of the mags recently about his remanufactured Mod vehicles... can't remember which one though...
  10. I am thinking that storage bins would be more useful in the back of my D1 than the 2 little seats that are currently there. Has anyone broken a disco that had bins rather than seats and wants to sell? Or does anyoine want to swap a pair of seats for a pair of bins - preferably beige? just curious Cheers Mark
  11. So you need a 12V Adapter capable of dishing out just under 6A? Thats going to be a struggle... Why not try a cheap inverter and plug your mains power supply into it? Alternatly try getting the dedicated car supply for the laptop - I found one on eBlag for my Dell... Just a thought.. Mark
  12. Neil, Could you confirm what the dates are? Cheers Mark
  13. We had to jack the floor up to get the cross member in on Orange's rangie too. I think it sagged when we took the old cross member out (in small pieces). We put a large piece of wood under the floor behind the wheel arch and jacked that... it was only a few mm as has been suggested. Cheers Mark
  14. I have a late 200 tdi - on a K plate ('92) which despite having metric hubs, still has 10 spline shafts and diffs...
  15. If it is a metal tank, then I have used the tank repair kit from frosts to good effect. If it is plastic I would have thought it would be easier to get another one (possibly at sodbury this weekend?) Cheers Mark
  16. It is likley to be a light truck transmission to be fair, hence not showing up on the car lists... Is one of the ZF's headed for your 90 Tom? would be a good thread to read... Cheers Mark
  17. This is how we did Orange's sills on his Rangie - it's pretty much exactly the same on a disco (I know cos i practiced this on my disco first ) The box section was 120 x 60 I think.... Mark
  18. A-frame version was at the bottom of the page - I would have thought they would do that on the 8274 version if you asked nicely..

    jacks

Another vote for the standard rangie/disco bottle jack. I am not really a fan of highlift jacks, so don't have one. The other thing I carry is a jack waffle. I picked up a sheet of waffle material a while ago, which is only 1" thick. Whist it's a bit thin for vehicle waffles, a 12" square of it makes a really good base for the bottle jack. hth Mark
  20. The devon top mounted ones come very close to the floor of te car on a disco. Mine are actually touching I think. As I understand it, both ways work, so if you are on a budget and see a bargain, then get them...
  21. The two front rails are relativly easy to fix to a car that didn't come with them. The holes are already in the roof supports, so you nee dto drop the headlining and find the four holes, then drill through the outer skin. I belive it is then just a case of bolting the rails in place then with a suitable amount of sealer... If you are taking them off the wrecked car too, I guess it will make working out where the holes go that much easier. hth Mark
  22. I believe it can be welded, but usually usung a stick welder, and the correct cast iron welding rods. Not sure how successful MiG welding would be.
  23. He is our local friendly(ish) laser cutter....
  24. On the Alloys on my Golf, I used Flush fit valves - This left the valve completely flush to the rim. You then had a special tube that fitted in when you removed the cap. Not sure if they do them to fit steel wheels, but they would certainly avoid the valve getting ripped out: flush fit valves on eBlag just a thought Mark
