  1. big problem for me, I have 6.5" mods and 265 Recips had them on for 50mile, seem ok but clearly not legal, road tyres back on
  2. Best decision I have ever made with my 90. Do it you won't regret it.
  3. not refitted mine, but then I am not as fussy as Rich_P
  4. A bit, but I had the feeling where the clutch felt like it was doing a bit, but it then got harder on further travel and actually disengaged. The oval metal contacts had seized onto the little pins and started turning them, then the pins came loose and dropped out
  5. I had the pins that operate on the release bearing drop out of the clutch arm
  6. 2.5 days on your own, I lifted the body off in one lump. See my thread in member's motors for the easy way to do it
  7. I have coughed up for a licence, it's worth the money
  8. I have just taken delivery of a 10mm Bowrope I'm hoping it's as good as RV says
  9. I have gone down this route. I am having my old laptop wiped and rebuilt to run minimal programs, and a Sirf III reciever. But, both memory maps and Oziexplorer seem to cost a few quid ~£60 not wanting tob e a tight arse but that is strong for a bit of software, any other options?
  10. If I was you i'd use the Audi clutch with a Tremec manual gearbox, bolted onto your leaky lt230 Going to cost some wedge but it will last for ages....
  11. also how long is a piece of string?
  12. I had a credit card fraud before Xmas that MAY be related to Paddocks, all sorted now though, after they nicked £1500 Same thing as mentioned above, using it to top up a phone and buying goods. Worst crime as you've got no chance of squaring things with the perpertrator
  13. good question Fridge, I should have been clearer, it needs to have an electronic immobiliser fitted (not necessarily thatcham, but probably a good idea if it is), I can fit the thing myself according to the chap on the phone. Apparently the roll cage is the reason for needing an immobiliser
  14. Another thing to go wrong Anyway, does anyone have any experience of ftting one to a Defender? I realise some folk might not want to comment in public so PMs welcome. Cheers
  15. well it used to sit quite tall, certainly taller than it does now. The springs are coloured the same as standard 90 springs.
  16. I have the standard sort of kit fitted to the front of my 90, steering guard, winch, bumper etc etc. Well it now sits a bit lower than I think it should. I have no interest in lift, thus I want a spring to counter the drop in ride height. I have currently standard springs, +2" dampers on normal turrets, when at near full stretch the current sprins just about go loose on their mounts, so free length is absolutely spot on IMO. I have roughly about 3" between axle and bump stops so need something. Somebody has suggested 90 rears, but the load found on here: http://www.landroverorphanage.com/shop/page/5?shop_param= doesn't look right. The only spring I can see on there that might be ok is the Police spec Rangie front. But it is over an inch longer I tow a heavy plant trailer irregularly but am worried with Police spec fronts the motor will tilt up too much. Any thoughts and guidance?
  17. mine was galv'd then zinc sprayed twice then powder coated (not that Britpart cheapo nonsense either) a year later and it still looks as fresh as a daisy, used everyday too
  18. Tyres have arrived! First impressions are of how much wider they looked compared to my old tyres! Recip is 265 and Insa 235, but the difference is very noticeable. Tread isn't as deep as a new Sahara. The wall lugs look like they will do a job. All in pleased, but want to get them mounted up and try them before passing a meaningful judgement, thus far seem good.
  19. also worth pulling cam followers out and looking for general wear in the valve gear
  20. i remade my doors years using metal folding techniques. they are perfect.
  21. I used a cutting compound on mine when I did it. Made me think the TGV manifold was made out of cheddar, it cut so easily. What I did, was to unbolt turbo and remove some pipework, placed a thick rubber glove over the inlet, drilled and tapped the manifold, fired up the engine to blow the swarf out, did a check with my fingers for any left over and refitted turbo. Been fine ever since
