Jut
question for the guys who are running 35" tyres. looking at the next project for the defender. probably go with the challenger 16 x 10 wheels. firstly. what is the general consensus for a good tyre for road and mud (not heavy mud plugging, just farmers fields etc)i use cooper sst at present and have no complaints. l'll also extend the arches, will go for the spectre type 160mm. secondly what off sets you guys running to push the wheel out to give plenty of clearance for turning. ta (PS before anyone jumps in, its lifted 2" already) PS it is already lifted 2". thanks
Chicken Drumstick
What width tyre are you going for? Do you have a budget for tyres? The new Km3 MT from BFG looks nice. But not the cheapest. Will you be regearing at all or are you modified already? Also do you have uprated drivetrain? And what sort of engine. A 35 is pretty chunky. But doable. landroversforever
Got to ask if you’re planning that kind of off-roading, why the 35” decent 33” will do all of that and more.

Not bottomless but would rather buy something right rather than a it’ll do.

Fancy big. Was originally looking 37 but they seem to bring all sorts of other problems.

kingrat
Look at the terrafirma beadlock rims. You don’t need the headlocks so don’t buy them but the offset is correct and fitting 35” tyre yourself will take about 15 mins per rim.
Landy7
If you're looking for tyres for both on and off road use, the BGF All Terrain KO2 comes up first in almost all reviews/tests. Edited June 15, 2020 by Koen110
Jut
just looked at terrafirma beed lock wheel. they recon upto a 12" wide wheel on 7 inch rim more if you use the bead lock set up. seems a lot of excess tyre..... would have thought 10" wheel would be more suitable?? kingrat
They work for me ok. Balance with the beadlock I found to be an issue though

The KOs were already into the 50k mark when they went on the 110. Only time I've driven with Coopers were on a friends P38 and by comparison I found them quite skittish on the road in the wet. Not sure if it was the vehicle or the tyres but wasn't impressed. Thats my personal take on the matter. Found the KM2s wear very well for a mud pattern, only swapped mine out because age and scarring from off road. There was a reasonable amount of tread still left on them (probably comparable to most all terrains news).
Ex Member
You need wider arches to cover and clear a 35x12.5. Around -10 mm offset to maintain clearance inside. A lift by itself does not affect clearance. You need taller bump stops. You need at least 1" higher bumpstops. 2" is better, especially if you have flexible suspension. Jut
thanks, already have extra large poly bump stops all round. and yes wider arches are in the plan.
Mo Murphy
You should float and lose traction on mud quite nicely with 12.5'' wide tyres. Could be embarrassing if you have an audience 😉 All that glitters is not gold. Mo
Snagger
Should sap a lot of that power on sand too. They’ll give great aqua planing on wet roads. Big tyres are a huge drain on performance and capability, as well as handling, economy, comfort and practicality in all but very specialised cases. There is a reason that all the emergency services, military forces and Camel Trophy stayed with 7.50s or 235/85s all over the planet, with some very rare but extraordinary exceptions
Jut
Sand in England.... best i get is a stoney beach on the south coast. lol
chuff
All tyres in the same class eg.MT/ AT/ ATR perform the same, the tread is just designed to look cool / different. Land rovers Bigfoot 110's drove like **** and twisted rear shafts like crayons. Proceed with caution.

That couldn’t be further from the truth. Tread design makes a HUGE difference.
