Francis
Hi everyone. I'm Francis and I just joined yesterday. Looking forward to learning loads from you all, and having good chats about our beloved Landies! I have a 1984 110 County 3.5L V8, which I bought in Crawley last year for 485 squids. 440 more squids brought him up to roadworthyness and got the mot passed. A deal eh? bishbosh
Welcome! Sounds like you landed (excuse the pun ) yourself a bargain! Won't belong before that £440 grows a bit though

BigSi110
Hi Francis. Don't know what your plans are with the 110, but there are some great off-road sites near you, if you fancy seeing just how good the 110 really is. What do you use him for? Going to any shows / events this year?

Guest diesel_jim
I've got a 110 also! mine is also broken! (the end of the intercooler has split open..... sounds funny when you put your foot down, just like a 110" air compressor! )
Francis
Well, only passed it's mot last week so not had a chance to do anything in it yet. It's been 'sitting' at a friend's workshop for several months, and prior to that, hadn't done anything since 2003 when it was last taxed! I plan to use him for off road adventures and as my main and only drive. So, I will be looking for an LPG kit soon. And Si, I will have to pick your brain no doubt. My first jobs are to get it tidied up around the windscreen where there is some rust, and of course the door frames could use a look at at the bottoms, and I will be repainting him gloss black, also looking for some black or alloy wheels to replace the original landie wheels.
Francis
Only just made it roadworthy last week. It's taken that long! I will use it off road, of course! I want to paint it black, change the wheels over for some alloys or something cool looking, and of course get a roll cage, upgrade the interior, sort out the door frame bottoms as they are a tad rusty, but not terrible, sort out the window frame at the bottom corners where it has rusted through and some numbnut has 'fillered' it! I will most certainly be taking it out for mud runs! I heard that these V8s are 'restricted' and can be 'unrestricted'. Difference of about 30hp. Right or wrong?
FridgeFreezer
Not sure about restriction, I know the LR versions are lower BHP but that could be down to compression ratio. IMHO it may pay you to get a flapper EFi setup for a few quid and bolt it on, that will gain you ~30bhp off the bat. Either that or a complete running 3.5/3.9 EFi from a RR. Is it too early to mention MegaSquirt?
LS26
I heard that these V8s are 'restricted' and can be 'unrestricted'. Difference of about 30hp. Right or wrong? Welcome Francis, I met a bloke with an early 110"V8 in the eighties and he told me that LR had fitted restrictor plates under the carburetors which he had removed - could this be what you heard about? I'm sure that someone on here will know the answer Rog
FridgeFreezer
Rings a bell but I'd have thought that any V8's these days would've had them removed years ago
GBMUD
Stage 1 V8s had them as LR decided that the drum brakes were not up to stopping a loaded 109 with a V8. Chris

Is it too early to mention MegaSquirt? I'm a diesel geek pure and simple, so feel free to correct me, but i thought that low-compression engines were only fitted to vehicles destined for foreign markets with a variable quality of fuel. The 3.9 in the 110 is from a saudi spec RRC IIRC and is low-comp, as were the 4.0l's fiited to the 2003 G4 disco 2's, you can tell from the engine number - but i dunno how, i'm sure a real adult will be along shortly to put me straight Lewis
V8 Freak
Welcome Francis.... Sounds like a bargain as others have said.... But now you are on that journey of eternal expenditure, upgrades, must haves and endless hours of "tinkering" Loads of people in here will show you how to spend thousands on the car so beware...
