rusty_wingnut
Those nightmare buffers that go into the bulkhead, does anyone have any good tips on fitting them?
western
warm them in hot water first & lubricate the small bit with vaseline or similar, they will pop in to place, a small flatblade screwdriver to assist the small end into the hole will help. BogMonster
Eh? They just slide in on every vehicle I've ever owned...
western
mine don't slide in, they have to be pushed into a hole these buffers

Simon Smith
Reminds me, one of mine fell out the other day, must get a new one. Never had trouble putting them in before, just spat on them and pushed them in.
rusty_wingnut
Well I had one of them and was leaning against it and feeding the lip with a screwdriver with no luck - guess I'm just weedy I shall try warming them
Maverik
When i did have holes for them i just used patience and a small screwing driver if memory serves...
Off Road Toad
Just had a look at my truck as I've never noticed these buffers before, mine are fine it seems because there is a 1cm gap between them and the bonnet ROFL!
cypermethrin
I was wondering where these actually go in the bulkhead..... As apparently water ingress can happen if they are not fitted. I have a 1997 300 tdi and am not sure if i actaully should have them..... But i do know that a get water in through the driver heater vent... So... Were should these go ? western
Yep, get them fitted if not already, V8Freak had to fit new ones to his red 110 a few years back, that thread should be in here somewhere too.

I have tred and failed to find the thread. So are the holes in the bulkhead along the line where the bonnet meets the bulkhead?
Landy-Novice
when i fitted them, i cut about 2/3rd' of the thingy and put some tiger seal around it, it went straight in and was also 100% water proof.
western
I have tred and failed to find the thread. So are the holes in the bulkhead along the line where the bonnet meets the bulkhead? Yes, just inboard of the bonnet hinges, the first photo in the link you posted shows the holes they fit into.
rusty_wingnut
This is the very reason my passenger footwell keeps filling up!
cypermethrin
Just had a look at my 300 tdi ..... Both are missing ! May be one of the reasons it leaks like a sieve!
rusty_wingnut
Right top tip from me, smear the points in fairy liquid and they press right in. No need to heat them or cut them about.

cypermethrin
Well the washing up liquid tricks did the trick nicely. also found the soucre if the drivers footwell leak. The top left hand nut and bolt of the pedal box was loose alliwing water to ingress and then drip onto accelerator pedal and floor. Its only taken two years to find the source!!
