  1. I've just bought a 1993 L reg hard dash with the CATS alarm system (to replace my Discovery). I'm wondering if there should be a key fob to remote lock/unlock the doors as there doesn't seem to be one? Thanks
  2. These guys did something similar, there used to be an extensive photo gallery but I can't find it at the moment.
  3. The best option would be to buy a scrap 4 door classic of similar age to salvage parts (you don't say what age the left hooker 2 door is but I'm going to assume it's a later "CSK" style shell). Wiring should stretch over to the new dash position. If you have aircon then you might need to swap that over, along with all the stuff behind the dash for that, probably need new aircon pipes too.
  4. I bought a GRP bonnet from ebay when I was building the CSK but decided to fettle the original one. The bonnet I bought bolts to the original places and uses all the original hardware. Somehow the bonnet found its way onto a different RRC in the family so isn't for sale but I can take photos of bits if required? I know a good supplier of GRP bonnets for MGB's?
  5. *cough* four V8's *cough* Good to hear you kept the Classic
  6. I would weld them back on, that's how they were fixed on from the factory
  7. I also use a D1 V8 as a daily drive for long motor way hauls, towing caravan, towing car trailer, bit of green laning, driving about in the snow when it happens! It's set up as follows Famous Four HD standard height springs (which give a slight lift but nothing massive) Bilstein Dampers Standard bushes on axle end and Polybushes on chassis end of arms I've had this setup for around 5 years and it performs all tasks well, giving a nice feel on the road but removing some of the wallow normally found, tows well and still allows me to park up in a multistory when I visit such places.
  8. The CSK went the other direction (down) but I ditched the self leveller at the same time.
  9. Any idea what spec the overfinch conversion was (engine/interior/steering/suspension) and what sort of money he's thinking?
  10. Ouch! Not good, glad it's not too serious and he's on his way home.
  11. My Disco runs on a single point LPG system and has done for many years with no issues. The CSK runs on a fancy sequential system, again with no issues. I recently drove the CSK 4000 miles across Europe on LPG and it behaved fine. The Disco was on LPG when I bought it but I converted the Range Rover and have converted other cars too with no issues.
  12. Very nice, that will be a lovely classic when you've ironed out the problems
  13. It depends on quite a few factors, photos would help make a ball-park guess along with a complete list of what it failed the MOT on. Is it original? Condition of interior? Condition of outer panels? Prices for good two doors in general are going up.
  14. I have both and would always prefer to drive the classic, my long term plan is to replace the Disco with a late classic for daily use (the other classic doesn't get used in the winter). A RRC will be increasing in value whereas a Disco will probably not increase at anywhere near that value. However it's what works best for your situation.
  15. So close to my house I can hear the superbikes and Download festival when the wind is in the right direction, added to the calender, even if it's just for something to wander around for the day!
  16. Oddly enough I was tasked with the job of changing my uncles serpentine belt on his TDI VW thing, the tensioner hadn't seized but had started to come apart and had eventually pushed the belt off true. It ended up running on the edge of the pulleys and rubbing on the side of the block. Had to bodge it with a washer to get him back home (London) as there wasn't a motor factors open close by. I do have a nice stock of V8 ones though
  17. I've had two viscous fans fail on me, both on a V8 Disco. Failure 1 was in the middle of Cornwall, -7 degrees and the fan locked solid, not what I really needed. Failure 2 was this summer, the fan refused to spin properly and the engine responded by warming up a little. The CSK has a 2 speed fan fitted which has been fine for cooling it down, even at the bottom of Romania in high temps sat in slow moving traffic with the aircon turned to full the gauge didn't budge. None of these are under "extreme" conditions but it gives you an idea.
  18. I've got a leaky pile of these too, have often wondered what I could do with them other than let them gather rust.
  19. Saw this on engadget earlier and was going to post it but work got in the way. Looks like it could have some pretty neat uses, let's just hope it takes off.
  20. I've had two faulty ABS ECU's over the years, one refused to extinguish the dash lights but the other produced a dangerous fault where the ABS would kick in for all 4 wheels below 15mph every time you slowed down. That was a twitchy moment.
  21. Are the lights on the dash behaving correctly? Have you plugged the ABS ECU into testbook or similar and looked for fault codes? It should also show you valves sticking or opening when they shouldn't be.
  22. Agh! If I wasn't at a wedding in York that weekend I would have come and helped with the network for you. Perhaps next year, last years event was brilliant, had a great time as a spectator.
