I'm interested in the dyno results when you get them. Crikey, even if it made the old thing run quieter with no power gains it would be a plus!
-
I know what you are saying but when the retailer AND Britpart simply couldn't care less when both are contacted then why would I continue to use either or recommend them to others?! When parts dont fit out of the box or fail within a few miles of fitting there is little point getting a replacement anyway! Anyhow. This is an old argument and done to death on here and the thread has been diverted enough.

Your experience is different to mine. Island 4x4 and Paddocks for example have been a nightmare for honouring warranties on faulty items even with Britparts 'legendary' 2 year warranty (they no longer get my trade). Contacting Britpart direct just gets you fobbed off. At the least they could show interest in improving their shoddy carp but they aren't interested in the slightest (as a result they too no longer get my trade unless there is absolutely no alternative which is rare). I find LRDirect and Britcar excellent as retailers and so only deal with them now. I select parts as much as possible based on the actual manufacturer (i.e. Corteco, Hardy Spicer, Timken etc) rather than the wholesaler and LRDirect and Britcar do a great job of helping you identify which of the wholesalerers that supply them I should buy from to achieve this.

With BP, its the lottery as Fridge says and then the painful process to get anything back when the part goes wrong. Britpart have never been interested and the re-sellers can be awkward at times so the 2 year warranty is a waste of the paper it is written on. There's no compensation for time spent fitting either. As a result its easier not to play their game unless you know for sure that you are getting something with a decent brand (i.e. we know they re-sell adwest steering boxes so there shouldnt be any nasty surprises there!)

Haha. If the body on mine was better i would consider a chassis swap When it got to that stage but the body is rotting faster than the chassis for a change on the D2!
-
What needs welding on it. The body on mine (2004) needs something each year for the MOT at the moment. Strangely, my chassis is fine!
-
I can never find a definitive answer on this question. What should I disconnect when welding the body shell on the D2 (if anything)? I have put this here rather than the disco forum as it would be the same question/answer for a lot of different models.

Why cant we easily have these big Fords in the UK?!
-
Sorry - I meant to see if he could recondition yours. Its hard to think that the parts cant be sourced somewhere but if Bob didnt offer that option then perhaps they really arent available. Maybe look for a good secondhand pair on ebay or the like? Its always a chance.

Thoughts and musings on the new defender
reb78 replied to Jamie_grieve's topic in New Defender Forum (2020 onwards)
I wish so much that i never gave mine away. It was in great condition but not worth much at that time. I had too many cars and wanted it to go to a good home. Gave it away To someone who needed a car on the condition he kept it running. First sign of a minor repair and the idiot scrapped it. I only found out afterwards or I would have taken it back. -
I would have a talk with Diesel Bob http://www.dieselbob.co.uk

Thoughts and musings on the new defender

The RRC seats I retrofitted to my 110 are the nicest I have at the moment. Very comfortable. My D3 seats are like sitting on slabs of concrete all at the wrong angle! Those D3 seats are less comfy than the ones in the D2 so hard to work out how they managed to downgrade the seats between models! That said, my trusty old Volvo 240 had armchair comfort up front!! -
I bet a good old fashioned Motor Factor would be able to match it up.

Its a shame this thread was ever started on here. Its not the place for it.

I don't have a lot of experience but it seems to me that once setup they will be trouble free for a long time. Mine is on 270,000 miles and the oil comes out looking like it did when it went in whenever i change it.

Thoughts and Musings on the Ineos Grenadier

Well. I never knew that! I prefer the SD1 though!! -
We aren't the enthusiasts that the marque wants anymore though....

Afraid I agree with Snagger. They brought the Velar out and I thought it looked so much like the F Pace at the time that it was hard to tell them apart - direct competition within the same company. The new Defender and the D5 do the same thing by competing with the same market as each other. So do the Evoque and the Freelander Discovery Sport (they nearly fooled me with that one... not!). It seems really foolish... so many models competing within the same company and not with the rivals!
