  1. you could upgrade the pump for a headlight wash pump , a lot more flow and more pressure too through jets which helps keep it on the screen in windy conditions or high speed motorway driving cheers Steveb
  2. Yes , it'll be very driveable for back roads and running around . As you suggest motorway work would be high revs to keep up with the flow . Enjoy Steveb
  3. Do you know which transfer box you have ? iirc a 2.5NA may well have the 1.6 :1 ? which will be a bit low for the 300. The suffix table on Ashcrofts www will tell you which variant you have . You will definitely be even more in love with the 110 with the new engine cheers Steveb
  4. ta Ralph , didn't know Cat were so into supply Hub systems , more the sort of thing I'd associate with UPS or Stobbart , I'd imagine the stock in the entire supply chain would only amount to less than 2 weeks in todays production world Steveb
  5. What parts did/do Caterpillar make for JLR? never heard Cat mentioned in connection with the green oval before cheers Steveb
  6. No O rings on the injector pipe, just flared ends on the pipe and matching seats on the pump and injectors and unions for the pipes onto the IP are normally sealed with copper washers cheers Steveb
  7. Hi John set the timing and loosen the tensioner , then check for end float on the inj pump , this is often the cause and means it will need overhauling There is a thread on here in the last week or so dealing with this cheers Steveb
  8. :i-m_so_happy:good to hear . I'd check the wiring under the airfilter mount , a common spot for chafing problems and a lot cheaper than an oil pump eh cheers Steveb
  9. Looking good Will , some neat fab-work there too . I got myself a little 1/2t HIAB last year and it's super useful , only weighs about 200kg and cost about £250 . With one of them you could use it to mount the spare wheel in the gap and maybe a demountable box for tools or whatever you gotta love 'Mogs they are so useful cheers Steveb
  10. remove the wire from the switch and make sure it can't touch to earth . Start it and if the light comes on its def wiring related .If not , Get a cheapo pressure gauge together and plumb in for a true reading . You could use one off a foot pump for example , they are usually BSP thread and a length of pipe and a few fittings should hook it up as a temp test gauge . My 200Tdi rattles from the top end - tappets - when started from cold even though the oil light goes out and I have 50psi within 2 sec on the oil press gauge hth Steveb
  11. LED headlights according to the description . I wonder which ones they are ? cheers Steveb
  12. I'd be very wary of s/h IP's , if the governor sticks and it goes to full throttle on start up it can end up self fuelling on the engine oil and that'll be the end of your engine . At the very least I'd suggest before starting an unknown s/h IP removing breathers from air intake and probably the I/C to engine hose too just to be double sure , then if it does go full throttle it can't draw oil and has no boost and will stop on the key ..........I know this as it happened in my workshop a few weeks ago after fitting a s/h IP supplied by the client ....not pleasant , and I was lucky as I managed to stop it by blocking the turbo intake with something flat. ....a Tdi doing 10k + rpm inside the 'shop is a noise you never want to hear more than once cheers Steveb
  13. My 50p is on blown headgasket letting water into a bore . Remove all 4 injectors or all 4 heater plugs and crank over with inj pump solenoid disconnected . Any water will get blown out as mist or if it's really bad , liquid . The knock would be the engine hydraulically locking from the water . Was there a lot of white smoke from exhaust when you revved it with the misfire ? I wouldn't run it again until you've done the test above for water as I have had one bend a con-rod from a HG water leak .... cheers Steveb
  14. ...I used welding glass - 13 grade - for the full eclipse in '99 in Cornwall . It was a bit cloudy but the sun was visible and a most spectacular experience . We were on the Cheese Wring stones along with about 10,000 people up on the moor . If I won the lottery eclipse chasing would be high on the list of things to do . Got everything crossed that the cloud will stay away for this partial one cheers Steveb
  15. ..you could always bench test the 2 new ones , if they are faulty they will still be faulty away from your LandRover . look forward to hearing a positive conclusion with a properly built re-con cheers Steveb
  16. If your old one works ok most of the time and it's fault isn't the same as these 2 replacement ones ? then I'd say you have 2 faulty new parts , it does happen believe me . I'd be looking for a local specialist rebuilder and get the old one rebuilt properly . cheers Steveb
  17. ...now you've found us maybe you'll hang around MJ ? What sort of college course is it you are doing ? and what do you hope to do with it once completed? My year 2 HND mech eng project was the history of LandRover development and manufacturing from S1 to S3 sometime back in the last millennium cheers Steveb
  18. Yep all good CatJ , nice and busy with the steelwork and also lots of LandRover work too . I really enjoyed making my wiring harness , very satisfying to do and have relayed and fused everything inside a waterproof enclosure . My top tip is to wire in earth returns for everything and not rely on bodywork or chassis connections to make the circuit . It's been on the road 10 years now and I've not had any wiring failures and only one bulb blow... ...lets hope I'm not talking it up though ! it is still Lucas after all cheers Steveb
  19. Hey how goes it all ? I think you will find the colours should match between the two looms so it should be just a case of following the colours for the main circuits ? Mine was , a disco 1 tdi and a 87 RRC , and a bit of series ! How is your 90 going ? cheers Steveb
  20. I totally agree about the waterpump position on the 300 , bloody stupid design for something that could be seen as industrial/agri with the many roles a land rover could be in . Is the fill procedure in the tech archive in it's own right ? I've described it a few times now within various threads. @ eightpot - the level in the header tank allows for fluid expansion under heat so I'd leave it where it should be and just lower the tank to suit cheers Steveb
  21. That's a bit strong Mike ? surely if the correct fill/top-up procedure is followed it will make no difference as once the system is full and sealed it will just circulate as normal . cheers Steveb
  22. Some top quality profiling and pressbrake work Dan , as always . Looking forward to seeing it more complete. I reckon It will look great , the 202 cab shape is nicely retro . Hope you and the family are keeping well. cheers Steveb
  23. ..well I never thought anyone could chip a 60's series .... ah my jacket (oops done it again) I'll be off now Steveb
  24. Can't read that in the UK , BBC at it's best by the look of it , can you copy the article ? ..Bob Marley , another taken too soon cheers Steveb
