  1. It's good practice to replace both the master and slave cylinder when working on clutch hydraulics . Doing this will cover all the cheap fixes , if the dragging clutch is still there after doing this then I'm afraid you will need to consider clutch (and possibly DMF) failure . It's not a guaranteed thing that the DMF will have failed but it's worth being aware .. welcome to the forum as well cheers Steveb
  2. That's pretty subtle all built up . Which V8 is that ? The rear antiroll-bar set up with it over the top of the axle is unusual . I came across a similar set up on a hybrid last year that actually bound up when one wheel was up but the vertical links look longer on your pics cheers Steveb
  3. It's a bit subjective regarding top speed surely ? flat or downhill, still air or headwind/tailwind , ambient temp and air density/moisture , then as mentioned tyres make a big difference too a few basic parameters would need to be set to get any sort of comparable data ? cheers Steveb
  4. Are you building it to any sort of club rules Soren ? or is it more for playdays ? Chopping up the gearbox is a great solution to using the torque-tubes , inspired . I still have 2 404's in the yard and may well have a go at something similar , maybe using 2 steering axles cheers Steveb
  5. has the pivot pin/bolt fallen out ? or the lever plate retaining nut loose on top of nose of t/box? cheers Steveb
  6. If the noise is still there with the rear prop off it's not likely to be the diff - you can confirm this by pulling the rear halfshafts as well as the rear prop and going for a short roadtest . Is there any free-play in the t/box output bearings? welcome to the forum too cheers Steveb
  7. my suspect would be the cv "shoulder" has dropped out of the bearing on the inner end of the stub axle , or there is something stopping it seating fully into the bearing ? What's the background to it? cheers Steveb
  8. A very good point Chris , the feel is much different with a 90 to 110 / Disco , load balance on the trailer is much more critical cheers Steveb
  9. If you pull the hazard switch out and disconnect the terminal block off the back they can sometimes be restored by a good liberal dousing of brake cleaner in the rocker and in the rear then blow out with an airline . It sounds like the hazard switch is part of the problem but also wiring to the RH rear indicator , a temporary direct earth from the light terminal to the battery -ve would prove earth fault and equally a temp live to the +ve wire onto the light fitting feed would prove supply wiring fault , or a dodgy light unit , just be careful where you lay the end of the temp live !! cheers Steveb
  10. They are held with a compression olive , iirc 10mm ID . Without a ref length I'd set by doing an oil change and fill with the correct amount of oil and set using as the max level . The old olive can be removed using a junior hacksaw . cheers Steveb
  11. I've just been in the workshop to try some plug taps in a cv shaft end and the best fit would seem to be M11 std pitch . I also tried 7/16" UNF and 7/16" BSF both of which only went in a turn. Why M11 is a bit of a mystery as it's by no means a common size . I always use an M10 held at a slight angle to pull it out for the shim/circlip . If it's too tight to do that then there is something wrong. cheers Steveb
  12. it sounds like you have a problem there Mike , what are you trying to do? cheers Steveb
  13. go to your local car parts place and have them look in the back of the brake hose parts book , some have hose lengths listed . Or put a new set of braided ss hoses on from a good supplier . There have been some recommendations for Llama 4x4. For the cost of a set its got to be worth a try cheers Steveb
  14. It sounds like the relay has failed , have you checked the power out of the relay ? and don't forget the ignition needs to be on for headlights to work cheers Steveb
  15. Free cubic inches is a good incentive to do something for sure . So what sort of spec is the one you are having? The CI V8's are still great fun , I have a mate who builds '32 5window coupe hotrods in the classic style with 351ci V8's Didn't Alvin Smith's later Strange Rover have a 5.7 litre chevy in the back ? cheers Steveb
  16. Agreed , but maybe it's for a rebuild of an early 2 door Overfinch or some such . Although even then it would be a perfect chance to modernise with something nice ... Give us a bit of background Lacey and you will find some experienced V8 nuts on here And welcome to The landRover forum too cheers Steveb
  17. glad you got sorted out . How cold does it get mid -winter ? Easy Start ......the most mis-labelled can in the world . It's a really good way of killing a diesel engine , there are a myriad of other ways to get it going from a flaming rag on the end of the wheelbrace held over the air intake while cranking to a gas torch or hot air gun / hair dryer . Hot air in the intake is the key - that's assuming every thing else is good to go cheers Steveb
  18. Did the stuck fuel pin manifest itself by going to full throttle on start up ? Steveb
  19. Welcome to the forum from another Suffolk LandRover Nut cheers Steveb
  20. Donald , those flakes are the heat treated faces of the rotor/rollers etc in the head of the IP breaking up . Not that uncommon now as these VE pumps get older , some say it's made worse by the low-sulphur content of modern diesel . It will need a major re-con or a service exchange Bosch supplied core I'd say . The strange thing is they will keep running well when like this for some time with the only symptom being the stop sol. not working cheers Steveb
  21. it sounds like a lack of boost Mike , so loose pipes from turbo to inlet , split intercooler , hoses delaminated blocking flow , wastegate open , blocked air filter etc . It could also be a seized pin under the diaphragm on the IP ? Do the intake pipes expand when squeezed and then revved from under the bonnet ? Maybe hook up a temp boost gauge ? cheers Steveb
  22. Some years ago a mate of mine had one of those which had a Bedford 330ci 6 cyl diesel fitted . He drove it to Gibraltar and used it there for a few years before it got stolen. cheers Steveb
  23. Thanks Richard My wiring is already fully relayed and earth returned direct to the battery with good Wipac reflectors and bulbs so is as good as it can be , it sounds worth thinking about for sure cheers Steveb
  24. I'd be interested in knowing what your thoughts are now you all have had a chance to live with them for a while . I'd certainly like to be as visible as possible to the masses of drivers that seem not to notice 2.5t of LandRover rather too often . To that end I'm actually considering DRL's too ..... cheers Steveb
  25. What section did he lose on Steve? Some of the younger people at work failed the theory on hazard perception , sounded to me like you have to get the inside line on where the system marks them ...click too many and you fail too cheers Steveb
