  1. I have just painted my floor in one part PU floor paint and its qualities had me thinking it would make good chassis paint, or anything paint come to that. I notice that Retropower have mentioned they use colour matched Raptor on the underside of all their builds, but that is after the second blasting and the hot zinc spraying. How involved is hot zinc? I take it that isn't a DIY propostion?
  2. To add to the sum of info on the engine loom I have two pics showing the layout for the diesel, Main engine loom emerges from the FIP, down on the RH side of the block as viewed, under the inlet manifold, crosses the engine on the support at the front and goes through a large grommet into the ECU box, it terminates in the large rectangular clip on connector that mates to the ECU. Close up of the top of the ECU connection, it just lifts out of its box, normally held under a screw down cover.
  3. I spent 15 years in France, and there is really one lesson to get under your belt early on, ..... it isn't how you interpret things that is important it is how the person (fonctionnaire) you are dealing with interpets them that counts. Often there is only one person or office you can deal with and if something goes wrong you are stuck. There is still a republican (or socialist or communist) attitude within the civil service and they enjoy wielding their power when the opportunity occurs. It is not like a normal 'department' where you can ask to see the manager and negotiate a compromise. Once blocked at any level the next level up is more interested in supporting his staff and ticking a box than he is in providing a 'service' to you. I spent about 5 years on and off trying to register a mobile sawmill as a trailer in Lot et Garonne 47, because every effort I made ended up eventually on the desk of the same guy it always got rejected. I eventually used a commercial address in neighbouring Dordogne 24 and succeeded at the first attempt, ..... I knew a lot more about the system by then and I was lucky the second bloke had a more modern attitude. As far as registering cars go, it is about where you live, and where the car lives, I found the French really flexible about many Brits who drive UK registered vehicles for extended periods even though they were actually living locally. More so than the Irish where you have only 30 days to do the paperwork when you enter the country, after that you have to pay Vehicle Registration Tax of somewhere in the region of 30% of the value of your vehicle!
  4. Paddy, thanks for that tip, I was on Boards.ie just seeing if anyone else had an issue (lots of material there!) ..... as well as Parcelmotel they mentioned parcel wizard and I discovered I am already on that system due to getting texts for deliveries from DPD, I just had never appreciated the parcel drop thing before. I'll give them a go next time and meanwhile look up Parcel motel locations.
  5. Right, excuse the slight delay, your pic had me scratching my bonce.... went back out and realised I had been ooking at the transmission cooler! so investigated a bit further and this is my engine oil cooler, tucked in between the intercooler and the condenser I did try and get the caliper in there but its pretty congested, I made two guages out of plastic and I am fairly sure its 22mm rather than 20mm. rigid pipes are a shade under 17mm. Both fittings are on the LH side of the vehicle and the unit.
  6. Fairly close, ... one on the bottom I think and one on the inboard side, but yes both really on the inboard side.
  7. If you get the right parts lad at Craddocks I am sure they would double check them for you before dispatch, just so that you don't end up testing all the hoses.📏
  8. Mine being late model auto is different again, 20mm threaded bosses on mine, seems they are all different.
  9. I'll have a quick look under mine in a minute, but my parts book has PBC000020 as diesel manual cooler, and the corresponding pipes as PBH101750 and 760???
  10. Interesting comment,... my only experience of powder coating was a Bearmach winch bumper I had on the D2, it was complete rubbish and most ofit flaked off, after about 4 years I took the bumper off, modified it slightly, shot blasted it and just painted it in ordinary paint, I was totally unimpressed with powder coating.
  11. Can't top the story of the seals but we have 'issues' in Ireland,... most ridiculously is the post office here don't use or recognise the post codes (known as Eircodes). This means that a letter or package with the correct Eircode (which pinpoints our house nicely on Google) can end up in Tipperary town 80kms away just because our post town doesn't appear sufficiently prominently in the address. ( From there it seems to take a couple of weeks to surface). Worse than that is the system they have known as AddressPal which offers the convenience of a UK post box and in theory it costs €3.95 to have your package forwarded. In practice the Customer number is so ridiculously long that it is seldom correctly transcribed by the vendor (and or doesn't fit in the first line),... there must be a huge pile of stuff in St. Albans that is 'lost' and little or no customer service to help retrieve it, I have lost 3 items completely in the last 12 months. Rant over.......
  12. Welcome,.. you should find a few kindred spirits in here, .. how did a RR get to PNG? I am guessing JLR don't have a big presence there so I guess spares are a big problem?
  13. I had trutracs front and rear in the old 110 and never had any issues, ..... excepting that I shouldn't have got rid!
  14. Interested in a lathe when the time comes, I have kept my little Elliot mill which is fine for my needs,... or will be when I have cleaned it up, suffered a bit under the tarp unfortunately.
  15. I am starting to wish I lived in South Wales,.... that is just impossible here. Do let me know if there are any bargains you can't handle Ed! 🙄
  16. First tentative steps towards realising this, ..... pallet turned up today from @Ed Poore with 4hp24 box for the P38 and the bellhousing from @smallfry, many thanks to them. Feels like a small beginning of sorts. There is another Jag in the offing too, but days at the moment are given to redoing the patio make it safer so I think it'll be a week at least before I get a chance to go look at that. ...
  17. Memories! .... haven't been to Ford in 40 years, the train used to stop there instead when there was trouble on the Littlehampton line, I shall look them up next time I pass (???? could be a while!) thanks for that, all the time I was around LA I never knew it was there.
  18. Looks really good btw. ..... I expect we'll need GPS more than usual now when navigating border country?
  19. Result! 👍 It really looks made to measure for your press. Can you share the 2nd hand tool emporium or is it a secret, have they got any more?
  20. Well, ... at least you learnt a bit about it in the meantime, ... every cloud, ...
  21. +1 for re-synching, that is a skill you will need from time to time, take care to follow the sequence exactly. Also check you have the EKA code for your car, it is the only solution sometimes. Many remotes display eratic behaviour with the receiver module, take care to get quite close to the vehicle, in some situations I have to put the key right up to the RH rear window for it to work. There is a known issue with the receiver and antenna which I suspect is part of my problem, but while it works I just go on using it. If you search for these problems you will find lots on here .... I also use Rangerover.pub, some very helpful and knowledgable guys on there.
  22. I think they are a good option if you are accustomed to or well practiced at stick. At work we had little warming boxes to keep rods in but the oven works just as well for small jobs. I prefer MIG and I have a little spool gun for small rolls of wire. I see these solder rods going about though, like Shackleton used to patch up his aluminium floor and I do wonder if there would be less heat and distortion potential. 2mm is easier than wings and skins perhaps? It's an interesting one, I think there are a few options these days...
  23. Facelift higher spec models had it anyway, lower models had the option.
  24. Size is possibly the main issue, and you may need to consider another set of wheels? if you have 235/60 18's you may find your choice is limited to the all-weather road tyres anyway, changing to smaller wheels would help a lot but then you need to check clearance for brakes in the wheel. Putting taller tyres on your 18's will give you more choice again but then I don't know if Evoques have adjustable steering stops or at what point you run into clearance issues under the wheel arches, taller tyres obviously then affects speedo etc. on road. Use a tyre size comparison calculator on the web to check physical dimensions against each other and see how close you can get something. As a rule of thumb most cars will allow snow chains to be fitted and so a modest increase in tyre size overall is workable.
  25. I always thought that was 7500 + 750 = 8250 ???
