  1. I used a 200 disco box on mine, make sure you get the cradle as well as it needs those rubber mountings to absorb the vibrations of the heavy box. HTH Mo
  2. I took the front diff out to find out why the four studs either side of the diff opening in the axle casing were too short to take a nut and found this instead ! Three of the four allen bolts holding the middle part of the locker had come out and the fourth was about to leave. The diff pinion appears to have some chips to the teeth although the crown gear appears undamaged. The locking clip for the actuator has a couple of mil shaved off the back of it and the input bearing has some cage damage. There were also these in the diff pan Is this a rebuild a job that I could do or is it a job for Mr. Ashcroft ? Your thoughts Gentlemen Mo
  3. In medical circles isn't this known as aversion therapy Mo
  4. Yes, plain daft and downright dangerous but what 16 yr old thinks about the consequences of their actions ? I think we've all been there to some degree, think back Not that I'm condoning this of course ... Mo
  5. Morning all, What a fun week-end that was, eh ? Tony and Val, thanks very much James old man, many thanks for the co-driving, you were superb ! Top chap ! Jim (Pugwash) did a great job, his size belies his ability to put his monkey-like agility to effective use! ...Possibly Cheers Jim Mark90, cheers for the track rod mate and to Nikki for the tea The damage that we got was minor, we even hammered out Stu's door whilst waiting for recovery Nothing more chequer plate won't hide What happened with my track rod ? Well I'd stopped to put another litre of oil in the transfer box and ring the head of the household when I noticed that the front wheels were pointing outwards - ah! Track rod had a nasty kink at the end where my reinforcement ended. Will arrived to offer assistance and manned the brakes whilst we tried to pull it straight with the winch, to no avail and at this point Chris and Jenny, Les and Mark and Nikki pulled up to help. Well, the upshot of it all was that in the process of being straightened the tow jaws of a NATO hitch the rod broke. The recovery people were snowed under and couldn't spare anyone to recover me home that day (about 200 miles) and offered me a courtesy car and to recover the landy to storage at their depot until Monday or Tuesday when they could get it home. However a recovery to Nailsea to Mark90's house was possible as it was a short run and there I could get a replacement track rod. So, thanks to Mark, I was able to drive home, getting home at about 9pm after a crawl along the M4 from Reading to the M25 and a detour around the north circular to avoid an immobile M25. All's well that ends well Mo

  14. That was a close one Ian ! Glad it turned out OK in the end. Mo
  15. Will, I would have thought that if you got a full crew cab roof made in fibreglass, you could sell a good deal more than 10, after all they are very sought after and a bolt on and forget roof would appeal to the weekend mechanics. pennysworth Mo
  16. Thanks chaps, what is the best way to check the head for warping and if warped how much should be skimmed ? If the head is skimmed should I go to the next thickest gasket ? And lastly to prevent me getting stitched up through ignorence, what is the going rate to have the head skimmed ? Ta Mo
  17. The Landy has suddenly started overheating and the rocker compartment does seem to be pressurized, chuffing out oil vapour. I can't see any oil in the water or vice-versa. Will I be doing a head gasket change this week-end ? What is there to look out for. What parts would I need ? Could it be something else ? Downhearted of Letchworth
  18. I think I'll go with Mark on this one, it's to replace the soggy logs that get used to keep your plasma off the ground ! Mo
