  1. what about a transit county theres a couple on ebay we had one at work would cross fields etc but thay do hold the price, chris.
  2. on the flat box the main place i can its going to leak is the lip where the top goes on theres only 4 spring clips maybe grease will sort it ive filled the bottom holes with sikaflex my main prob is water being taken in by the scoop but ive either got to turn it around or replace it with a cone one cheers for the reply, chris.
  3. nice one bm im looking to replace the square air box with a air box from a case 13ton excavator it looks a beter box having an internal and external filter like si said earlier my best bet is to turn the scoop around when driving in heavy rain have you had any probs with the square panel filter box taking in water on its seal, chris.
  4. thanks for that on our tracked machines etc theres a small rubber trap on the bottom of the airbox to let water/dirt etc out but oviously nothing on a 300tdi box, chris.
  5. as the topic says i fitted a safari snorkel 2 weeks ago today whilst driving in some heavy rain, i got home and changed the air filter to notice water in the air box not a lot prob a couple of tea spoons is this normal or am i missing something it has the standard safari top any views welcome ,chris.
  6. cego galvanising at witham in essex have a large hot dip tank i think there now called wedge i know its a long way from you failing that get it blasted and a good 3 coat epoxy paint finish chris.
  7. shot blasting using chilled iron/steel shot will remove most things my uncle has a factory in witham essex doing shot blasting next to him is a gallvanizing plant as for powder coating over galv i dont think it works too well chris
  8. go for the biggest that will fit in there with the highest cca you can get ive got an 086 in mine it was 50 quid trade so prob about 75/80 quid retail chris.
  9. arrived today many thanks to all, chris how about some lr 4x4 clothing if theres enough interest
  10. hfm pyrotechnetics do electrically fired smoke bombs/grenades only need a current to activate but the case does get hot ,chris
  11. i think a decent strop takes a lot of beating we had a 11ton tracked dumper broke a track whilst in the middle of a pond in about 2 feet of slurrry/mud after a debate and me refusing to use a large wire bond we opted for a set of 10ton brothers and a large strop around the chassis i expected the strop to break, it took me 2 hrs to pull the dumper out of the pond using a 21ton excavator. so i would say a strop takes a lot of beating at least it goes white before it breaks and like others have said always get decent shackles, chris
  12. carry a can of deicer or brake and clutch cleaner in your cab thay will be in no fit state to play after a spray in the eyes /face works better than cs spray or there is some sprays on the market that cover your face in a red foam which gives you time to get away
  13. im looking to make a pair of rocksliders for my 300tdi disco ive looked at various designs, fixings and ive decided to make a set that basically wrap around outer/inner cill oviously this wil encase the cills my question is when it goes for a mot have these got to be removed to check the cills, chris.
  14. that is almost identical to the set i have but mine is in a plastic case draper expert ive had no probs and it looks a good deal
  15. has the vehicle got abs does it pull to one side under heavy braking i know you say you have checket the discs you havent got a cracked disc that will open the hotter the disc gets the other thing i would check is bearings is there any play in the swivels, chris.
  16. old propane tank i thought of that but after a previous experience that idea is still scary im now looking at a 9 litre fire extinguisher there is a fire extinguisher dealer near me im going to see what thay have, chris
  17. as dave says very good i have a set of tip top sealistic plugs like a small dickie bow shape ok to get you home ream the hole out and insert the plug in vulcanizing solution and insert in the hole as far as i am aware its illegal to use these on the highway off road only ive fixed punctures on jcb tyres where ive put 5 plugs to fix the hole but thay are very good chris
  18. ive got a draper 3/4 drive socket set no probs also a 1/2 inch set no probs i often use the 3/4 set on a chatter gun i know you shouldnt but ive had no probs and like you say lifetime guarantee so if thay break take them back ,chris.
  19. i can see where your coming from and this has crossed my mind but i dont think you could get the volume of air through the half inch tube unless you could charge the cylinder to 3000 psi but ive thought of using a 9 litre foam extingiusher as a tank mounting a 2 inch valve on the side chris
  20. sometimes its hard work but as bm said lube makes it easier also a pair of mole grips to clamp on the rim to stop the tyre coming off the rim as you reseat it at work if we get a bead thats tight especially jcb front tyres we use the jcb to push the bead off also a ratchet strap if your mounting tubeless tyres will save a lot of swearing .chris
  21. i would go for a compression test like you say as it warms up it runs better is it white smoke unburnt fuel but you seem to of checked all other areas, bent conrod, head gasket, cracked head , is it loosingany coolant engine oil milky go for a compression fest and go from there hope this helps ,chris.
  22. i used one last week after trying to reseat a tyre on a rim you can fill it to whatever your compressor will produce normally 120psi i know some tyre ftters compressors will go to 150 but a lorry air tank is tested/plated to a test pressure oviously my welding wont be but i see no problem if i get a good weld if i buy the pressure relief valve the 2inch valve and a pcl coupling for filling i figure it will cost about 35 quid if i can get the tank for nowt. chris
  23. i know its not lr related but on our jcb3cxs if you turn the ignition off with the heater fan running the engine will run on only for a couple of seconds but it appears the fan motor supplies enough brief power to keep the stop solenoid open if that makes sense, chris.
  24. as the title says im looking at converting a lorry air tank into a tyre bead reseating tank i know i can buy the proper tank has any one made one the only thing ill have to buy is the 2 inch valve any views appreciated, chris.
