  1. Big heat requires big flow (not fast flow) through big rad with big air being pushed through it - simples Standard WP simply won't push enough flow to make a big rad as effective as it could be Electric WP's are superb things for non standard petrol lumps and work well in non standard diesels with big tuning. Only issue after big flow + big rad + big air is coolant movement through the block - ie are the waterways really big enough I haven't seen the famous Nige oil cooler thread yet but I'll go and read it for the laugh
  2. Don't forget things like the 2.9 5 cyl merc lump from the ssanyong musso, the Masda 3.5TD, the Nissan 3.5FD and the Isuzu 3.9
  3. Takes about 15 minutes to make one fit the other
  4. I just did mine through a meaty relay with a manual switch with a warning light...
  5. Driven a couple of 300Tdi to D2's and a TGV D2. All nice vehicles. Both 300Tdi motors were in a light state of tune. All were R380 'boxes 200 Tdi has more available grunt. 200Tdi with an LT77 would work as would an R380. WOuld be a nice truck but would cost a bit to do For the cost of the bits get an LPG kit and sell the 200Tdi
  6. You should never presume! Yup every center block has two sypes. Makes a huge difference on rock/ice/compact snow/wet tarmac. A truly good all round tyre, even in sand.
  7. Fair point Stupidist is not in the OED. It may well become a word in the near future as English is the fastest growing language in the world. I quite like it as a word as it is very discriptive. But it is somewhat excessive and porrly chosen in this case I see your point about fuel vs water (that's why I paraphrased the FUEL regs This would unbalance your vehicle. You would be throwing in excess of 50kgs above the swage line. A big no-no. it would also be out of the body line so would effect the suspension more. IMHO there are far better ways to carry fuel and water but few that look so roughty toughty. I think that's why Sam Watson uses a similar system
  8. Stephen, getting the old MT's in 33/12.5x15 was never easy here - I think you had them all. I've been after 33x9.50 in 15 or 16 for years, nary a sniff. As for the old MT's in any size since the MT2 launch.... I have a deep liking for the Maxxis Buckshot Mudder. Great tyre, probably the best alround MT around, also good sypes, so damn good on ice and compact snow. Supposed to be available over here in 255/85x16; even the importer laughed at that. Availability is drying up as it's not EU speced. Damned shame as it's well priced.
  9. e-mail the very nice people at Landy Camper on info@landy-camper.de then ask them Allow for the fact that this set up is not legal for fuel in Europe and the ferrys accross to Turkey/Africa/most other places won't allow it EU legislation says no fuel to be stored in temporary containers outside the vehicle
  10. There are quite a few makes of tyre being phased out due to the now noise regulations AND numerous other issues (pollution for example) but this is typical of when a brand is going through the phasing out 'phase'. That way you sell as many of the tyres in stock as possible. What idiot wouldn't have a new product ready to replace the old product - like I can see that happening! "Oh yes we have a new tyre coming out soon, you don't mind waiting do you?" Oddly enough the new BFG tyre is rather better than the old one, not just quieter...
  11. Interesting what Jim says; especially as he is without doubt a man with experience. Yet he is one of the very few people to ever have anything bad to day about OME. OME are probably tested and matched better than any other aftermarket suspension in the world. However they are designed to match certain configurations. Many years ago here in the UK Iron Shocks recieved a market pasting becuase 'they all broke'. Actually it was because the UK distributor wasn't careful about who did what with them and a superb shock got the usual 'it's no good' rumours spread so far that it's sales have never recovered in the UK market. I've heard it about most makes - Rancho, Pro-comp etc etc I agree with Jim about the cost though. Okay one has to allow for container frieght costs - but you can get a lot of shocks on one container. The UK importer (Arbil) could help the retailers by looking at pricing. Slightly less for such a good shock could make a big difference... I finally managed to afford a set of OME's for the rear of my 110 - okay they are plus 5" pin/pin; but the difference in ride quality above the Terrafirms previously fitted is amazing
  12. Nige, have a looksie for a nice late Passat B5.5 2.8 syncro with the torsen centre dif, throw on some winter tyres; get the auto/trip version
  13. Don't worry old lad, I also love my 200Tdi (my fifth now) and as I don't have £8k I won't be going down Andrew's potential route. If I was to ask The Wife if I could spend £8k on my Land Rover, I would be eating hospital food for months... Anyway the 200Tdi is one of the best sub 3.0ltr diesels ever made. I'm in the process of building up a spare one, which when built will go in the 110. This will be a Disco/Defender hybrid lump and will be special - not quick just sweet
  14. IIRC the LT77 spigot is a narrower diameter for the VM
  15. Steven, they fit very well - had some on the 100" for ages until I ARB'd it. In fact I was looking for them the other day as I want to fit some to the 110 now the ARB is gone
  16. Andrew I've known Fridge (JU) for many years. He's a clever bloke - very clever. He's alos reliable, helpfull and many other good traits. But he has a problem. He has limited vision in the sillyness department - it was mostly used up building that somewhat impractical steed he drives. The thought of a 200+ bhp BMW oil burner in a 110 has given me feelings I thought had gone now I am no longer needed to provide ingredients for prodgeny. If you have 8K to spend AND it has been signed off by The Long Haired General; then do it. Ignore any advice as to practicality and sensible spending. Just do it. Then send me the pictures... I know if I win the big win tomorrow or Saturday night, I'm taking a trip to see Jezzer. Diesel Power - there is no power as pure
  17. "...but the idea of 3l 24v turbodiesel 110 does appeal.." Without doubt. In fact one would have to be a bit on thr weird side (like JU not to appreciate the potential. Might as well go Auto though
  18. I belive it is so you can prove the legality of your ownership of said engine A reciept from the breaker should suffice as he or she will no doubt have reported the breaking of the donor vehicle to the DVLA
  19. DOn't buy cheap cr*p, buy the OE stuff - Lockheed/TMA (?)
  20. Ah well. The nice people at the DVLAwon't issue a new V5c for an engine number swap unless you have the history of the replacement engine. That includes V5 from the donor vehicle. Mind you since when has the majority of the 4x4 world cared about what the DVLA thought and such minor issues as road legality.
  21. LPG conversion seems a no brainer (and I don't like non diesels) Have you thought of a propane injection system on a 300Tdi? Much as the Mazda lump is superb (as are the 3.9 Isuzu and the 3.5 Nissan FD amongst others) insurance hikes will hurt Also bear in mind the new rules coming out form the DVLA reference replacement engines; so buy a donor vehicle with V5
  22. The Allmakes bearings I get have 'TIMKEN made in France' on them They seem fine
  23. stay with oe springs if you can. unless of course you require a lift. hd 90 rear or hd disco 1 rears work well. red/red rears or even nicer, td5 progressive rears ome stuff is the best 'non specialist stuff on the market, but it's pricey. the non hd terrafirma stuff is good and better priced avoid polybush like the plague. oe bushes are okay but the best bushes are superpro, just superb and you get that excellent warrantee it took me over a year to find four doors for my 110csw - take your time and shop around none of the work you describe is that bad - never listen to the so called experts unless you know they are experts!
  24. Try Adrian at TOR4x4 for a price on springs info@tor4x4.co.uk As for expensive mistakes - yeah you probably did but anyone who tells you they haven't made a mistake is a liar. It's taken me well over 25 years to get where I want to be. The Allmakes turrets are good and well priced - again try Tor4x4; or you could give Gwynn Lewis a bell Once it's set up right the shocks should do the job just nicely I could make a nice living on the stuff I 'repair' for people who have been given cr*p advice by people who are supposedly in the know. Instead I get the odd drink bought for me and a nice warm feeling for being nice
