There should be a threaded hole in the drum. This is to enable a bolt to be screwed in to lever the drum off. It will make it come off wonky, so drift off with a block of wood on the opposite side.

Your 2.5NA/200tdi loom wil be very simple. As you seem to have the whole "dash" assembly I'd be tempted by a bit of an upgrade. You just need to spend some time figuring out what on the TD5 loom supplies functions you need. Theres not that many. Rear lighting Front lighting Washer bottle pumps Windscreen wiper (already in?) Radio head unit (already in?) Then seperate out an ignition circuit Starter motor Alternator stop solenoid There are some fiddles required to get all the warning lights and the digital speedo functioning. I'm a long way from being an electrician but I'm sure I could work it out with some logic and a multineter

Try touching the gearbox after a run, that's whats under the centre seat. Oh, and the exhaust too. In the summer it gets very hot! In winter you do not notice. The heat just seems to get trapped there. No road speed seems to circulate the air in that area. For your own peace of mind you may feel it worth changing the oil in g'box and transferbox if it is not specifically stated in the service history/receipts

The underseat tank is a funny shape and is a long way off full when the pump auto clicks off, especially if the diesel is foaming! I'm sure I've managed to get >50 litres in a few times (I've had the car 10+years). With lots of variables (tyre size, right foot, working gauge, working warning light, brimmed or not etc...) I worked on the principle of ~12gallons at 25mpg gives me a 300mile maximum range. So I try to fill up after 250-275 miles. Only been caught out once (and that was in a different car) when I relied on the warning light and the bulb had blown

You need to dunk them in very hot water until pliable, pick out, dry and pop on before they cool. They shrink on and NOTHING leaks out anymore!

Underseat tank is ~53 litres

I would have thought you need a heavyweight cloth put on frame without tension so the cloth takes all the energy from the projectile and it drops straight to the ground. Look you can even fill them with sand to keep your tent down in the wind!

I replaced the one on my '89 with one off a Discovery. Even had the correct wiring plug on it. Very small amount of metal work required, but nearly as simple as bolt it in! 200tdi like this fitted mine

2. Isn't the Terrano 2wd in normal mode. This means there is no centre diff. Manouvreing in 4wd low box will VERY quickly wind the transmission up and require a lot of enginre effort to overcome. My Frontera used to do this a lot.

This is who I tried I think I got the link through a vintage vehicle restorer, which I hoped would translate to good workmanship.

I was quoted ~£120 for a recore just over a year ago. Was slightly cheaper than a new rad. However, took a chance on a 2nd hand one off ebay. Got it for £20 and it was brand new. If there is nothing else wrong with it, I'd go for a recore. At least that way you know it will fit back in the hole you took it from and has the right adaptors for the oil cooler pipes.

I had almost identical experience with 2 pattern pumps on a 300tdi. Fitted an Airtex one and (touch wood) all ok now. One of the patterns lasted <3000miles! Pulley, belt tensioner etc all confirmed ok. Airtex IS now oem for landrover on the 300tdi, I got mine from main dealer in a LR box. I don't have it in front of me but I'm fairly certain it has Airtex logo on the casting.

Being French they can do what they damn well like if they want! That said, never been stopped, but always have a set in the car just in case.

Now I think about it, I have a 300tdi Defender column somewhere, cannot remember how many splines on it though. But, remember, without the engine running the PAS box has a lot of free movement. Unless one of the wheels was jammed against something during the hit then something else has stopped the wheels turning and bent the rod. Getting the ignition barrel off is the only way to confirm or allay your worries.

It's more like a woodruff key that engages into the column. But without one to hand I cannot remember if it is possible for it to be snapped/bent and still operable! EDIT. found a pic

The "lock" fits into a slot in the steering column, so either the lock or the column could be damaged. Neither is difficult to replace, just time consuming. To inspect them you need to remove the entire ignition barrel assembly. That is put in with shear head security bolts, so you'll have to find a way of undoing them. They are not usually tight. People have found a left handed drill bit will remove them, or centre punch and drill the heads off.

Silly, but. Are you sure your helper was pushing the brakes and not the clutch?

The vent pins on my 110 are small diameter bar with threaded ends, so easily replaced by stainless bar.
