  1. Thanks, Graham. Seems a bit too simple for a Land Rover, but we'll give it a go!!
  2. Afternoon all! No I haven't bought one, but am after some advice for my dad who has a X reg TD4 Freelander. He had a phone kit fitted by a company when the car was new, but now, having bought the car from the company, needs to change the cradle for one that fits his 'new' phone. Both cradles have a long lead with a plug on the end, so it isn't as simple as unplug the old cradle and attach the new one. The wire disappears behind the centre consol (the bit with the 3 heater controls on) and we need to remove this to get to the box of tricks. Does anyone know how? Or, if not, has anyone got a parts diagram showing all of the enevitable little retaining clips that are likely to get broken?? TIA Adrian
  3. Oils, brake fluid, small jerry can of fuel, hub oil seals and bearings, jubilee clips, spare stub axle (it's easier to change the whole thing when the bearing has welded itself to it). And some rag. I'm guessing it's a diesel, but if not, spare spark plugs, cap and rotor arm, along with a couple of spare HT leads to get you out of trouble. The list could be endless, but at the end of the day, carry what you'd be comfortable and confident changing at the road side and what space allows... Oh, a nice waterproof-backed picnic blanket to lie on, too.....I know - I'm a tart!!
  4. I carry a standard RR bottle jack and a 12 inch square "jack waffle" along with several lumps of wood to raise/level out the ground before lifting. Never had a problem with the amount of lift...
  5. "I can take this scrum on my own, lads........you guys catch a breather..........!"
  6. I had cause to claim on my Discovery policy with AF last november - never again! They were rude and unhelpful and didn't want to help me at all. The customer services person I spoke to after the whole saga was not overly concerned about the issues I had with them... I, too, have suffered the £25 admin fee on a couple of occasions and the cost of insuring a courtesy car due to their lack of approved repairers that will deal with a newer Land Rover (4 years old at the time) the way it should be dealt with - i.e. at an Approved Land Rover bodyshop. They only seem to have back-alley bodyshops on their approved list as the two other local ones they offered me have very bad reputations amongst people I know have used them in the past! When my policy was up for renewal, I had a funny feeling that the price would be exorbitant........I was right!! Norwich Union were £800 cheaper.......and that was with the wife on the policy and with business cover. I did ring them to ask about insuring the Range Rover.........the bloke on the end of the phone didn't even know what a Range Rover was.........let's leave it at that, shall we...!!!!??? The Disco is currently with Norwich Union (who incidentally have a Land Rover Approved repairer on their list in my area) and the Range Rover is with KGM, through Snowball, with all the mods listed on a Classic policy.
  7. Yep - knocks, shoves, landings............. believe me, most things that he throws his Disco at come off worse!!! About half way down on the left hand side of the original Guardian page is the Disco front bumper. The more I look at it, though, the more I think the holes could be a bad thing in something so structural....... No involvement, etc... Guardian just came up at the budget end of the market when I was looking for rear bumpers a little while ago.
  8. Here's mine... It's a slightly modified Southdown Bumper picked up from another forum member. Mounts nice and snugly to the front of the car and leaves a *good* approach angle. * read good for a RRC!!! And a profile shot... If it's an auto, you might need to move the oil cooler out of the way... SEE HERE
  9. Was that the best one Sam got?? There must be a better one!! Where's the close-up of the bull's nose??
  10. Guardian offer a budget range on ebay that look half reasonable shape-wise, but I'm not sure I'm too keen on the finish. Looks like the front winch bumper is very close fitting, but the rear one leaves a little to be desired!! The link is to their ebay shop BTW, so you can see all of their range.
  11. Devon 4x4 do 35mm ones, or I have seen them on ebay before now. HTH Adrian
  12. I see your rusty Disco and raise you: One very rusty Range Rover!!! I haven't updated my vehicle thread with the pictures of the rear floor and rear cross member yet, but needless to say, it wasn't much better than the sills!!!
  13. I've got a Discovery rear floor panel in the garage looking for a new home, if you are interested? Still in it's cardboard box fresh from Bearmach... Was advertised here: Disco floor Drop me a pm if you'd like to discuss...
  14. I've got two classics and the front doors on both have dropped. It's been made even worse by the fact that we cut the sills and half of the floor out of one, but it's nothing that an application of the shoulder doesn't sort out!
  15. Rear mudflap retaining plate 1992-1994: BTR432 - RH BTR433 - LH Bolts to the bottom of the wheelarch and the mudflap bolts to the bottom of the plate - 3no. M6 bolts at the top and 4 at the bottom. HTH Adrian
  16. See if you can sweet talk the local highways dept and pick up some old temporary road sign frames (or take a drive around and see what you can find in highway ditches). It's about 20mm square and is fairly thin walled. Might need a good clean up, but it won't cost much... Otherwise, as has been mentioned, the local tip is a good source.
  17. Steady...... I've got a heart condition!!!
  18. Super-low is good if you are using it on cars and the like, but if it's mainly for use on a 4x4, then there's no point paying the extra premium that a super-low one demands. I have this one: Clarke at Machine Mart and if it hadn't come as a present, it would have been high on the list of favourites. Clarke might not be the best make, but affordability is good and even after a year of ownership and no receipt, Machine Mart still replaced mine when it went wrong - FOC At the end of the day, I use the standard bottle jack more than I do the trolley jack. It's much more stable and has a shaped head that fits around the axle better. Just my 2p...
  19. Personally, I'd hope there was power steering fluid in it!!! Otherwise, Customs might have a little word in your shell-like!!
  20. Finally, I find a thread that can add something constructive to and lo and behold, my older brother beats me to it!!!! Life's a b#tch!!! Anyway, Mark - I still went through all the water that you did over the weekend and it didn't even bat an eyelid!! Next time, yours is going in the middle of the pond - how d'ya like them bananas!
  21. Try this... One of the parts of Simon R's X-Flex system. HTH Adrian
  22. I had a funny feeling one of my questions from the early days went on to discuss the merits of body lifts... Lifts and MoT regs Jules did a 2" lift on his RR a little while ago, too, so might be worth a pm for some fresh memories....
  23. I thought of you on Sunday when Mark and I were chatting to a guy from down Horsham way about some bits and pieces... He's just put a 3" lift on his bob and said that the only thing he had to lengthen/adjust were the brake pipes. Bear in mind that he hadn't road tested it yet... What was very obvious, though, was the complete lack of support under the rear floor - for your, it might be worth investing in a 1"x1" strip of the same stuff to mount on the supporting cross members so that you can put stuff in it without bending the floor. He said that he undid all the body mounts, jacked up one side in the middle of the car and then did them up. Repeat for other side. He's running a BW transfer box, so wasn't too fussed about movement on the hi-lo selector, but that would be one thing that would concern me. I'm sure there's another thread on here about it somewhere........I'll see what I can find. Laters Adrian PS - nothing like a bit of 11th hour modification!!!!!!
  24. Cheers for the dimensions chaps... Mo - I will take you up on the offer, but am not sure when I'm next in your neck of the woods! Will drop you a message once SWMBO has spoken to her mum and arranged something - if you don't mind holding on to it for now... Ta!
