  1. What is different on a borg warner to an LT230? Std LT230 has a lockable open diff and gears Borg Warner has a chain and a viscous coupling.
  2. Mine has a bend to clear the frame as well when open.
  3. All the series rear door stays i have seen or owned do not have a cranked end that goes thro the floor but have a stud in the floor with the stay bar forged flat with a hole in it, the hole goes over the stud with a split pin thro the top.
  4. But what do Landrover themselves say about using bio as they must have run extensive trials. JCB recomend against using bio after their trials.
  5. Overdrive or winch as they both use the same position on the gearbox.
  6. Rear stub axle is pt no 599828 Spacer ring is pt no 599698
  7. I fitted one of the Broquet units some years ago to my WW2 GMC truck as the engine was designed for leaded fuel, the extra heat of unleaded fuel had in the past caused the stretching of the exhaust valves. The claim by Broquet that cooler running and the capability of using unleaded in place of leaded fitted the requirement due to the unavailability anymore of leaded. After fitting one the running temp was definitely lower, IIRC before trundling on the flat on a coolish day was 210*F and after when climbing Marine Drive at full throttle in 4th around the Great Orme on a hot day was 200*F.
  8. The LT77 in Heathers disco has M12 threads in the slave cylinder and thats a very early model.
  9. Your dad is right about ENV rear halfshafts.
  10. IIRC the ball bearing race is dimensionally the same as the later parallel roller bearing, so the retaining collar is probably the same as the later and available.
  11. In 109" flavour a front salisbury had specific to it casing and inner halfshafts, the UJ's and out are the same as the rover axle and the diff is the same as the rear salisbury. The brakes were the 6 pot/1 ton size.
  12. From my experience it will be timing case off as the key is a drive fit in its seat.
  13. Bearmach had the same issue some years back, the cure was heat the outer eye with the oxy torch and close the eye a bit so it then cleared.
  14. Buying the tooling, you are lucky. My universal mill has spindles that are not an industry standard so adaptors and arbors have to be made to fit. I am currently turning 3 redundant piling crane boat leg pivot pins made from EN24T into swarf and boring head arbors on my flat belt drive lathe. 1 short one and 1 extended one for each spindle. A usefull supplier of tooling is http://www.glostertooling.co.uk/Download/Engineers%20tool%20catalogue.pdf
  15. I took 1 1/2 teeth off the layshaft 3rd gear with a 2.25d a few years ago now. Series 3 suffix A box. It did knock somewhat in 3rd and i was towing our old twin axle Eldis 6 berth van from Southam to Stapleford plus carrying my 4" scale traction engine in the landy at the same time, the teeth fell off about 4 miles into the journey, i still had to drive back as well. Scream the nuts off it in 2nd and quickly into top when ever possible to avoid 3rd.
  16. I have battery to chassis, battery to engine front cover, starter earth terminal to engine block terminal.
  17. The x-mod trucks would have whatever the suffix was when they were being built and when getting replacement boxes in service it would be whatever was available.
  18. The last one i had break was definitely a fatigue crack like you say. Would the Thames box be the 4spd that was fitted in the A series Ford trucks with the 6 pot Yorkie.
  19. Just to be picky, as its an x-mod 2.5na its NOT a Defender but a 90 or 110.
  20. A usefull tip for the 118* tip angle is use 2 hex nuts flat to flat and put the drill between, the angle produced is only 2* out at 120*, but when held up to the light the error from 120* is obvious.
  21. Hmm, considdering that the point that they snap at is in the 4 spline section what have you gained?
  22. In the case of the late 10 spline units with the thin hubs then yes. The 10 spline rear is now a 24 spline as i picked up a NOS 24 spline diff center and via e-bay a pair of 24 spline shafts. The front if pennies permitted would gain a 24 spline diff and a pair of Ashcroft 23/24 spline front shafts.
